Holiday home Baumgart near the lake
Bad Kleinen
The holiday home had everything we needed. It is clean, nicely furnished, cozy, and has good mattresses. The view from the winter garden out into the garden was an absolute highlight for us.
It is not far to Wismar and Schwerin. And shopping can be done very well in nearby Bad Kleinen.
In Hohen Viecheln, there is a fisherman from whom you can get freshly caught fish.
The stench from the nearby pig farm (40 thousand animals...) is dependent on the wind and weather. We were lucky that it was only really bad for one day. Otherwise, it was bearable.
In both directions out of the village, there is the worst cobblestone pavement on the road that cannot be avoided. Fortunately, in the direction of Wismar, it is only a few hundred meters. A bus connection is practically non-existent. This must be clear from the outset. A vehicle is absolutely necessary, as the small village of Losten is quite remote, but it is wonderfully quiet.
There is a 28-inch bicycle that can be borrowed. Unfortunately, I have legs that are too short...
The holiday home is located in the garden of the landlady, who has her seating area opposite "our" terrace and sits there with her visitors. It did not bother us at all. Mrs. Baumgart is one of the most likeable and helpful landlords we have ever met. She always had an open ear for me and gave us very good excursion tips.

Compare the beautifully furnished vacation apartments and holiday homes on the Mecklenburg Baltic Coast and find the right offer from a wide selection. Spacious bedroom? Quiet location? Wi-Fi? Choose your favorite options and start your holiday! Don't miss out on the sights either. For example, visit the imposing Schwerin Castle, where the government resides. The historic old towns of Stralsund and Wismar are even UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Baltic Sea island Rügen is also part of this heritage. Among the most famous excursion destinations are the famous white chalk cliffs, which significantly inspired the painter Caspar David Friedrich. Another popular sight on the island is located in the north: Cape Arkona. Two lighthouses and a former naval navigation tower stand on a 45-meter-high cliff. Next to it is the old, square lighthouse (Schinkelturm). Here you will also find a museum dedicated to maritime history. There are also sights to discover on the Zingst Peninsula, which lies at the eastern end of Fischland-Darß-Zingst and belongs to the Vorpommern-Rügen district. Visit the impressive cultural monuments in the center, the fabulous coast, and the offshore islands of Barther Oie and Kirr. Or take a trip to Bad Doberan (about 15 kilometers from the equally interesting Baltic Sea resort of Kühlungsborn). A small-town idyll with magnificent classical houses and great buildings of North German Brick Gothic characterize the seaside resort of Bad Doberan. The main attraction of the town is the monastery complex with the famous Bad Doberan Minster from the 14th century. The idyllic landscape remains one of the main attractions here and attracts with its beautiful phenomena.
The island of Usedom, the Greifswalder Bodden, or the Szczecin Lagoon are typical, very exciting excursion destinations when you rent a relaxing vacation apartment or holiday home in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania surrounded by forests and water. But the insider tips include the town of Rerik on the beautiful Wismar Bay, the idyllic resort of Göhren-Lebbin, or Dahmen, located on the southern shore of Lake Malchin in the midst of the Mecklenburg Lake District and vacation region. The Mecklenburg Switzerland Nature Park and Lake Kummerow are also nearby. The national park covers an area of 320 square kilometers and is the largest terrestrial national park in Germany. About 100 lakes are located here. Explore the area by bike or on foot and watch fish, white-tailed eagles, black storks, or cranes in their natural habitat by the lake. Another highlight is Rostock. Here you can visit the Warnemünde Lighthouse or the impressive harbor. It's particularly green in the IGA Park. A 100-hectare green attraction on the banks of the Warnow. Or perhaps you're interested in a bit of culture? Then visit the Cultural History Museum or the Homeland Museum in Rostock-Warnemünde.
The idyllic islands, Rostock, Schwerin, or Wismar are ideal destinations for the whole family, including pets. A holiday with a dog in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is highly popular among vacationers year after year. Many owners rent out vacation apartments and affordable holiday homes where pets are allowed. So, when choosing your holiday accommodation, look not only for spacious bedrooms but also for conditions suitable for your dog. A top highlight for families is the Müritz in the heart of the Mecklenburg Lake District. The Müritz is the largest lake entirely within German territory. It is connected to Fleesensee, Plauer See, and Kölpinsee. Visit the beautiful national park for hiking or biking, or dive into the lakes for some water fun. It is also lovely in Graal-Müritz, in Binz on Rügen, or on the island of Poel, which is particularly popular with young families. On Poel, you will find great white sandy beaches, bird sanctuaries, opportunities for hiking, and a beautiful pier. Fun for families is also guaranteed in the Greifswalder Bodden. In this lagoon of the southern Baltic Sea, you get the best conditions for water sports and lots of sights to see. The sandy beaches invite you to relax, and action enthusiasts can grab their kites and surfboards. Special events here include herring fishing in the spring and the horn pike fishing of Western Pomerania in May.
Found a vacation apartment or a stylish holiday home with spacious bedrooms and cozy furnishings? Planned a trip to the sights in Stralsund, Rostock, or on Usedom? We recommend that you explore the Mecklenburg world of culinary delights during your holiday. Throughout the state, the cuisine tends to be hearty and down-to-earth. Potatoes (also called "Tüften") play a major role in various preparation variations. Popular dishes include Himmel und Erde (potatoes with dried fruit) or Tüften un Plum (potato soup with plums and bacon). Naturally, the abundance of fish along the coast is reflected in the restaurants and eateries. Typical dishes include Hiring in Sahnstipp (herring in cream sauce) or Solten Hiring (salted herring). But locals also have a sweet tooth, enjoying treats like honey cake on the tray, small Pomeranian cakes, or Pomeranian butter cookies. After a successful meal, stroll back to your vacation accommodation along the promenade.
Book a holiday with a holiday home or vacation apartment privately in MV and also explore the cultural diversity. With the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, one of the largest music festivals in Europe takes place here. Venues include significant churches in Ueckermünde, Wolgast, Bergen, Zemmin, Prerow, Altentreptow, Demmin, and Neubrandenburg. But castles, manor houses, and estates are also among the venues. Other musical highlights include the Schwerin Castle Festival, the open-air concert series MeckProms, the Schönberger Music Summer, the Usedom Music Festival, or the Greifswald Bach Week. Wonderful cultural delights are also available in the Hanseatic city of Rostock. Visit, for example, the Shipbuilding and Maritime Museum with over 12,000 exhibits housed in the former cargo ship "Dresden." Particularly impressive: the Historical Boatyard. Moreover, the City Harbor is a popular meeting place for those interested in culture. At Stage 602, there is an interesting cultural program all year round. Ludwigslust Palace in the city of the same name is one of the most imposing buildings and castles in the state. It was once the main residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. If you want to learn more about the aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal, you should visit Anklam. The Otto Lilienthal Museum honors the inventor and most famous son of the town. In this award-winning house, you can explore the idea of flying from a physical perspective.
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is a German state located on the southern Baltic Sea, bordered by Brandenburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Lower Saxony. To the east, "MV" shares a border with Poland. Traveling by train to your vacation home or accommodation can be especially comfortable and cozy. Trains from Berlin and Hamburg to the major cities of the state (Schwerin, Rostock, Stralsund) depart every one to two hours. Many vacationers opt to travel by car. In the southwest, the A24 (Berlin - Hamburg) crosses the state of MV. At Wittstock, the A19 branches off towards Rostock. At Neustadt-Glewe, the A14 leads to Schwerin. From Berlin to Western Pomerania, you can take the new A20. Enjoy a varied and relaxing holiday in this northeastern German vacation region with your own accommodation - including your own beach chair!
If you visit Mecklenburg West Pomerania, you should definitely visit the places Rügen, Usedom and Müritz. Here you can hike in the midst of untouched nature, enjoy the cuisine of the region, and spend relaxing days in idyllic places.
