The holiday home, the KompassRose, is not directly on the bathing beach.
In the immediate vicinity, there are medical services as well as various shopping options (REWE, LIDL, ROSSMANN, a pharmacy). The bathing beach can be reached in about 15-20 minutes.
Bremerhaven and Cuxhaven are quickly accessible by car. A day trip from Cuxhaven to Helgoland is recommended.
We really enjoyed our stay at the KompassRose. We will come back. See you soon.

How is the weather at the North Sea?

The North Sea is known for its fresh breeze. The clear, salty air is a boon for the respiratory system. Due to the healthy stimulating climate, not only many vacationers come here to rent a vacation apartment or house, but also numerous people seeking relaxation and spa guests. Despite the constant breeze—or perhaps because of it—the North Sea is a popular destination. In summer, it gets warm but rarely too hot. Many people appreciate this and prefer the freshness of the sea to unbearable heat.

If you want to experience a beach vacation at the North Sea, it's best to rent your private accommodation between June and September. During this period, you have the best chance of enjoying many sunny hours, air temperatures up to 25 degrees Celsius, and water temperatures around 18 degrees Celsius. A dip in the North Sea is always refreshing! Wind and kite surfers should pack their wetsuits to stay warm.

In spring and autumn, water sports enthusiasts gather elsewhere. The North Sea coast is now much emptier—ideal for many hikers and cyclists to pursue their activities. They enjoy deserted beaches and a calm atmosphere on the islands. The most affordable season to find unbeatable last-minute deals is winter. From December to February, it can get quite frosty cold, but snow is rare at the North Sea. Which sights are there at the North Sea?

The Most Beautiful Attractions in the Region

If you thought there are no attractions around a dike and on the beach, let the North Sea prove you wrong. Popular destinations include the numerous lighthouses along the coast and on the islands. Sylt alone has five lighthouses! On the mainland, the "Dicke Berta" in Cuxhaven and the Westerheversand lighthouse near Sankt Peter-Ording are particularly beautiful and open to visitors.

The historic harbor in Tönning, the castle in Husum, the botanical garden in Wilhelmshaven, and the picturesque old town of Norden are other attractions and popular destinations for excursions. Or have you always wanted to know how and where large cruise ships and luxury liners are built? Then a trip to the Meyer Shipyard in Papenburg is a must. During a shipyard tour, you can experience modern shipbuilding up close. If your vacation apartment or house is on Sylt, you should visit the Red Cliff at least one evening. It's more of a natural spectacle than an attraction: the steep coast is bathed in a blood-red light at sunset, a truly unique sight.

But perhaps the greatest attraction on the North Sea coast is the sea itself—especially at low tide. When the water recedes, people of all ages head out for a mudflat hike. During a guided tour, you'll learn all about the natural habitat and its inhabitants and can ask any questions you have. Be sure to pack rubber boots. If it's warm, you can of course go barefoot.

What is a must-see at the North Sea?

Museums and Culture in East Frisia, North Frisia, and Beyond

If you're someone who likes to learn about the area where you're staying during your vacation, there are plenty of museums at the North Sea. Popular destinations include the "Windstärke 10" museum about fishing history in Cuxhaven, the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven, the East Frisian Tea Museum in Norddeich, and the Coastal Museum in Wilhelmshaven. Even the Hallig Hooge has a museum, namely the Homeland and Hallig Museum. Exhibitions and facilities in many other places also provide information about life at the North Sea, its history, and culture, such as the open-air dike museum in Büsum.

Art lovers should keep an eye on the Nolde Foundation Seebüll. The famous painter Emil Nolde was born nearby. The museum hosts changing exhibitions each year but is closed over the winter. Literature enthusiasts will perk up at the name Theodor Storm: The writer was born in Husum. The house where he lived from 1866 to 1880 is now a museum and can be visited. Another poet, Joachim Ringelnatz, is commemorated in Cuxhaven with a foundation and exhibition rooms.

A quiet evening in the vacation apartment or house is nice, but sometimes you might want to go out in the evening. The Stadttheater Wilhelmshaven is home to the Landesbühne Niedersachsen Nord and offers a varied program of theater, shows, readings, and concerts. The Kulturscheune in Lütetsburg is also a venue for cultural events. A popular destination, not just for classical concerts, is the Remonstranten Church in the picturesque town of Friedrichstadt.
