Pirate's bunk
November 2024
Thonas G. from Dresden
The Pirate Cabin is a small holiday house where nothing is missing. In the beautiful garden, there are two more holiday houses. Those seeking peace and relaxation are exactly right here. In Balm, there are two restaurants (we recommend the Italian), and more dining options are available in Neppermin.
Haus Hüsung
November 2024
Kurt M. from Seddiner See
This holiday apartment has its own entrance. You can come and go without disturbing others. The rooms on the ground floor are very appealing and newly furnished. The kitchen leaves nothing to be desired. The bathroom and kitchen are in hygienically impeccable condition. A small staircase leads to the upper floor, where 2 adults can quietly spend the night with 1-2 children (there is also the possibility for a small child or baby). The atmosphere is rounded off by a small terrace with a garden grill, a covered seating area for at least 4 people. Bicycles are also available for the 5-minute ride to the Baltic Sea. The landlord is very friendly and is happy to help make the vacation enjoyable. Overall, highly recommended!
Holiday home LUCA
November 2024
Olaf T. from Berlin
We had a really lovely vacation and felt very comfortable in the holiday home. It has everything you need in terms of amenities. The holiday home itself is in a quiet location, perfect for relaxing and unwinding. Around the holiday home, there is a huge area (Achterwasser) with fields and trees for hiking and playing and romping for the pet. The island has plenty of sights to see and natural beaches for carefree swimming. Since we feel really comfortable here, we will definitely come back next year.

Did you know that Usedom is not only the sunniest area on the Baltic Sea but also in all of Germany? On average, the sun shines about 1,900 hours per year from the sky. If that's not a great condition for an extended summer vacation on one of Usedom's fine sandy beaches. Since most of the houses, apartments, and villas are privately owned and have a garden or terrace, you can also enjoy the sun anytime in your second home.
Summer, sun, sunshine: Most vacationers, especially families, flock to a holiday apartment or house in a beachside location on Usedom from June to August. During summer, temperatures average 22 degrees Celsius, and the Baltic Sea invites you to cool off. It never gets uncomfortably hot on the island, making the summer months ideal for guests who want to engage in sports activities like hiking or cycling.
In the off-season: Even in the cooler months, staying in one of the seaside resorts has its charm. Then, the kilometers-long fine sandy beaches invite for extended walks, and the house from private becomes really cozy: This is ensured by cozy beds in the bedroom, comfortable sofas and armchairs, free Wi-Fi, and in many cases even a fireplace. Another advantage of coming to Usedom in the off-season or low season are the affordable last-minute offers for private accommodations.
Bad weather tip: The likelihood of rain is always present on the Baltic Sea island in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. But no worries: The island is not just about beaches, Baltic Sea resorts, and piers! In bad weather, you can take advantage of the wide range of museums, galleries, spas, and thermal baths on Usedom to make every day of your vacation unforgettable.
Some of the most beautiful sights of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are located on the island of Usedom. Therefore, it is worth targeting a few of the excursion destinations besides relaxing days on the beach and in your holiday apartment or house from private.
● The Piers of the region are a must-see. At 508 meters, the Heringsdorf pier is the longest in Europe. The pier in Ahlbeck is the oldest in Germany, built in 1898. There are more piers in Koserow, Bansin, and Zinnowitz that invite you for a walk in the Baltic Sea breeze.
● The Karnin Railway Lift Bridge is another technical monument. Once, up to 52 trains a day crossed the Karnin Bridge to the mainland. Today, as a testament to German railway history, only the lift part still protrudes from the water. Nearby is the restored station, which houses a small exhibition.
● The Resort Architecture must be highlighted as architectural masterpieces. It is no coincidence that they talk about the imperial baths of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf, and Bansin. The stately villas with their columns, balustrades, and generous parks were built towards the end of the 19th century and served as summer residences for important people.
● Mellenthin Water Castle is among the noteworthy buildings. The old manor house was built around 1580. However, there is another sight in the town: the Mellenthin Botanical Garden. It is dedicated especially to native plants and shines in colorful splendor from April to October.
● The Wolgast Zoo is located in the midst of nature and focuses on natural animal keeping.
● At the Butterfly Farm Trassenheide, over 2,500 tropical butterflies live and fly freely among exotic plants. The butterfly zoo in Trassenheide is the largest of its kind in Europe.
● The Tropical House Bansin is Germany's smallest zoo. About 150 animals and 120 plant species have found a home here.
Literature lovers: You will be pleased to hear that writers such as Theodor Fontane, Thomas Mann, and Kurt Tucholsky chose the island to relax and work on their writings. The Hans-Werner-Richter-House in Bansin hosts a small exhibition about the work of the author Hans-Werner Richter. He was actually born in 1908 in Neu Sallenthin, not far from Heringsdorf.
Art lovers: An old acquaintance on the island is also the painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein. The studio in Lüttendorf between Koserow and Zempin, where he lived and worked for many years, is open to visitors today. Other meeting points for painting enthusiasts are the Usedom Art House and the Art Cabinet in the cultural village of Benz beautifully located by the Achterwasser near Heringsdorf.
Theater fans: If you want to enrich your vacation in one of the seaside resorts with drama and music, you won't have to look far on Usedom. A popular destination for theater fans is Zinnowitz. Here, the Vineta Festivals on the Baltic Sea Stage take place annually, attracting over 25,000 visitors. Additionally, the "Tin Can" is another original venue for performances, readings, and concerts. Artists have always been and continue to be welcome on Usedom: This is evidenced by the Theater Academy Vorpommern, also based in Zinnowitz.
● The Peenemünde Museum attracts visitors from near and far. It showcases the historical events of the former Army Research Center. From 1936 to 1945, today's museum was one of the most modern technology centers.
● The Submarine Museum is also worth a visit. The U-461 submarine located in Peenemünde can, of course, be entered and thoroughly explored.
● A trip to the Otto Lilienthal Museum in Anklam is a good choice if you are more interested in the skies than underwater. Here, you can learn everything about the history of aviation and the great engineer and aviation pioneer himself.
Fischer's Fritz meets private brewery: A vacation on Usedom on the Baltic Sea always goes through the stomach. This is due to the healthy air and the rich culinary offerings. Fischer's Fritz is, of course, daily at work for the guests, ensuring that there is always freshly caught fish in the restaurants and inns, bistros, and booths. Traditional home cooking, as is known throughout Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, complements the menus of the eateries just as much as dishes and creations from around the world. A delicious drop from the region goes well with it: Both in Heringsdorf and in Mellenthin, there are private breweries known for their brewing art.
Herring weeks or game weeks: If you can't get enough of the delicious food on the island of Usedom, you should mark the "Herring Weeks" in the spring or the "Game Weeks" in October for a vacation and rent a house or villa in time. During the "Grand Schlemm" in May, six-kilometer-long walks on the beach from Ahlbeck to the seaside resort of Bansin are organized. The special thing about it: As part of the event, exquisite wines and exquisite dishes are served directly on the Baltic Sea.
Regional shopping: If you, as a guest of a holiday apartment or house, want to wield the cooking spoon in the well-equipped kitchen, you can buy local products everywhere on the Baltic Sea island. This naturally includes fresh fish from the region, which fishermen and anglers bring ashore from the sea, the Achterwasser, or the Peenestrom. Numerous supermarkets and bakeries round off the range of food for daily needs.
Whether a holiday home in a quiet location or a beachside apartment - on Usedom, you will find suitable accommodation for the whole family. You can rent houses and villas affordably from private owners. Children will love a beach vacation on Usedom in one of the imperial baths just as much as adults. But besides sun, beach, and sea, the island of Usedom has much more to offer for young guests.
● Rock garden, climbing forest, and forest cabinet attract visitors to Neu Pudagla near Ückeritz into the green.
● A dedicated children's infotheque is available in the Baltic Sea resort of Karlshagen. Interactive and didactically prepared, even the youngest can learn everything about their favorite places on the Baltic Sea.
● Traveling with a dog: For a vacation with a dog on Usedom, it is best to choose accommodation in a quiet location. Most holiday apartments and houses warmly welcome man's best friend. However, clarify with the landlord in advance whether bringing a pet is allowed. For playing and romping, your dog is of course also allowed on the beach. There are special sections where the four-legged friend can run around freely and jump into the Baltic Sea. Appropriate beach entrances are available in Peenemünde, Karlshagen, Trassenheide, Zinnowitz, Zempin, Ahlbeck, Ückeritz, and Koserow. In the towns, however, a leash is mandatory. For extensive exploration tours in nature with a dog, the landscape between the Stettiner Haff and Achterwasser is also suitable. Should your four-legged friend ever lack something or not feel well, there are veterinarians in Zinnowitz, Heringsdorf, and Bossin.
● The Lieper Winkel Peninsula is an idyllic gem and still largely a secret tip. Surrounded by the Achterwasser and Peenestrom, there are a handful of small fishing villages with thatched half-timbered houses. If you want to eat really good smoked fish, you should get lost in this corner of Usedom for a day.
● Diving gondola Zinnowitz: Not a secret, but all the more exciting is an attraction in the Baltic Sea resort Zinnowitz: At the end of the "Vineta Bridge," you can take a journey to the bottom of the Baltic Sea - in the diving gondola Zinnowitz. It was the first of its kind in the world in 2006. Vacationers dive in the gondola up to four and a half meters deep. Through the large windows, you can observe fish, marine animals, and plants of the underwater world - and stay completely dry.
