The most beautiful places in the region
From an accommodation or a holiday apartment or house in Gosau, you can start hiking and explore the wonderful Gosau valley. One of these hiking Eldorados is the Zwieselalm, with its breathtaking view of the Gosaukamm. With the panorama cable car, you reach the Alm and can take various routes, e.g., the Almenrunde, the path to Stuhlalm, or from the Vorderern Gosausee to the Zwieselalm. A magnificent spot is also the Glücksplatz Löckenmoos, which can be reached on foot or with the Gosau slow train. The effort is worth it because Löckensee was chosen as the most beautiful place in Upper Austria. On the Dachstein, further hikes are available, such as the Panoramaweg (7 km), Gosaubachweg (6.3 km), around the Gosaukamm (24 km), or on the Hohe Kalmberg (6.4 km). In winter, we recommend cozy walks through the guaranteed snowy Gosau valley. At the local history museum, you can delve deep into regional history. It's also cultural in the church quarter. The Catholic and Protestant churches here tell their own history and offer a fascinating view of the Gosaukamm. The shop of the oldest stone and marble turnery in Austria is interesting, with fossils and rocks from the surroundings available for purchase. The store is right next to the Gosau tourist office. Those planning excursions during their vacation can visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hallstatt, Obertraun at the foot of Krippenstein, the imperial city of Bad Ischl, Lake Wolfgang, Lake Altaussee, or Bad Goisern on Lake Hallstatt. Rent a cozy holiday accommodation or a house or hut now and enjoy a relaxing trip with your family and children.
Gosau Lake and Gosau Valley
A holiday accommodation or a holiday home or apartment with a sauna in the ski region is an ideal starting point for a family-friendly ski holiday in Gosau with children. The Dachstein West ski area stretches directly in the town, providing hours of fun on the slopes. A toboggan run and 40 kilometers of cross-country trails are also available. A family vacation in Gosau is also worthwhile in the warmer months. Use the elongated Gosau valley for extended bike tours through the fascinating natural landscape or treat yourself to a refreshing dip in the idyllic Gosau Lake. Here, the stroller-friendly round trip around the lake is also recommended. A highlight for families is a visit to the Urzeitwald adventure park with 25 stations focusing on agility and skill. Immerse yourself in history at the Paarhof Schmiedbauern open-air museum. It's a farmhouse from the 16th/17th century, which was reconstructed true to the original here. Numerous opportunities for excursions in the immediate vicinity await you. Also, take a trip to Obertraun or Hinterthal or a tour by mountain bike. The Gosaukammbahn takes you to other hiking areas.
Dumplings, fish-on-a-stick and must
In winter, umbrella bars or ski huts lure visitors to explore the culinary Gosau valley during their vacation with private accommodation, holiday homes, or apartments. In Upper Austria, many specialties have gained special importance over the years. These include dumplings, spicy farmers' bread, smoked bacon, sheep cheese, or a table of cold cuts with, for example, sausage, pickles, and cheese. At street food stalls, a fresh fish-on-a-stick from the local waters is worth a try. The national drink in Upper Austria is the must, which bears the quaint nickname "Landessäure." Must is a fermented pear and apple juice and is available in different flavors. Beer lovers are also in for a treat. From lager to Märzen, bock, pils, Zwickel, or wheat, you can find almost everything your heart desires. There are countless well-known local breweries with an excellent reputation - for example, the Hofstetten brewery, the Grieskirchen brewery, the Freistadt brewing commune, or the Schlägl abbey brewery.
At the World Heritage Site
Gosau is a municipality in the Gmunden district of Upper Austria. The town is located in the Gosau valley in the Traunviertel, in a side valley of Lake Hallstatt. The region is in the Inner Salzkammergut and thus on the edge of the World Heritage Site Hallstatt-Dachstein Salzkammergut. If you drive by car to your holiday home or apartment, you can follow the Gosaukamm, which will take you to Gosausee. The nearest airports are Salzburg (about 65 kilometers away) and Linz (about 125 kilometers). An arrival by train is also an option: take the Salzkammergut railway to Steeg/Gosau station. Book a cozy accommodation now or a hut or house with a sauna, terrace, and garden and experience relaxing holidays with your loved ones between ski resorts, such as Gosau-Russbach-Annaberg or Annaberg, and opportunities for excursions or mountain biking. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life in the beautiful surroundings!
