The climate in the Salzkammergut
The area around the lake is characterized by a Central European transitional climate. Both oceanic and continental influences come into play here, and the proximity to the Alps has a significant impact on precipitation and wind. In the north, the area is enclosed by mountain ranges, which create a barrier effect. As a result, a high amount of precipitation falls throughout the year. You can expect 13 to 18 days of rain or snow per month. Except for the months of November, December, and January, the sun shines for about 5 to 6 hours per day. Temperatures drop to a minimum of -6 °C in winter and rise to an average of up to 24 °C in the summer months. The annual average temperature is 7.9 °C, and the annual precipitation is 1399 millimeters on average. The months of June, July, and August see the most precipitation, with an average of 150 to 180 mm per month. In the remaining months, the amount varies between 80 and 110 mm. Be sure to pack weatherproof clothing and rain protection for your vacation in the region. Sunscreen is not only necessary for swimming but also for hiking, cycling, and mountaineering.

Sankt Gilgen not only houses the Mozart House. The Music Instrument Museum presents more than 4,000 different instruments from around the world. The operator Askold zur Eck is usually present himself and demonstrates the most astonishing exhibits. The Aberseer Heimathaus Lipphaus in Strobl displays rural furnishings. The house itself dates back to around 1500. The Deutschvilla in the village was used for a long time as a holiday home for the University of Vienna. Today, the house is home to a gallery for contemporary art. Cultural events take place throughout the year. In summer, there is a beautiful concert series with operetta evenings in your holiday resort.
