Some bathing lakes in the region warm up to over 20°C, while clear mountain streams provide cooling. Where gourmets become full and happy
Austrian cuisine is based on fresh regional ingredients. Dumplings in many variations, soups, pan dishes, meat, and pastries are popular throughout the country. Dishes such as Wiener Schnitzel, Tafelspitz, and Kaiserschmarrn are well-known beyond the national borders. In the region, dumplings are made with genuine Tyrolean bacon or Graukäse as Speck- or Kaspressknödel – served in soup or as a standalone meal. The famous Graukäse, made from sour milk, becomes spicy-sour to sharp in its ripe state and gives many dishes a distinctive note. Marinated with vinegar, oil, onions, and spices, it becomes Saure Graukäse. Tyrolean Gröstel is a traditional leftover dish. Cooked potatoes, pieces of meat, onions, and mushrooms are roasted in a pan. The special seasoning comes from marjoram, caraway, and parsley. Excellent wines come from the Austrian provinces of Lower Austria and Styria as well as from the Italian South Tyrol.
On the move in the alpine paradise around Scheffau
In the summer months, Tyrol belongs to hikers, mountain bikers, climbers, and of course families with children. Follow the Tyrolean Way of St. James or the Adlerweg, one of the most popular hiking trails in the region. The route leads from the Wilder Kaiser region through the Karwendel Alpine Park, past
Innsbruck, and through the Gaistal alpine paradise to Arlberg. Easy hikes take you from Scheffau up to the Kaindlhütte. From there, several exciting climbing routes start. A climbing garden for beginners is located near the hut. The Hintersteiner See can be reached with a walk from the Stöfflhütte. Here, a beach bath and several snack stations await. Children can experience real adventures in the KaiserWelt Scheffau at 1,650 meters above sea level. Treehouses are waiting to be discovered, and castle walls and climbing walls are waiting to be conquered. In winter, Scheffau offers the ideal starting point for a
ski holiday in the Tyrolean Unterland. Discover the Wilder Kaiser Brixental ski area with almost 300 kilometers of groomed slopes, cross-country ski trails, winter hiking trails, and the Kinderkaiserland at Brandstad. Beginners and advanced skiers, adrenaline junkies, and landscape enthusiasts will all find something to enjoy here. If you arrive by car, you can also bring your dog or pet and go on hikes together at the Wilder Kaiser. Visit the municipality of Ellmau or enjoy the view from a gondola lift.
Excursions to churches, chapels, and castles
From your beautiful holiday accommodation or your cozy apartment in a prime location or your holiday home in Scheffau, it is only a short walk to the Catholic parish church. The baroque-equipped church dates back to the mid-18th century and is dedicated to Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist. A small cemetery is located next to the church. The Bärnstattkapelle zum leidenden Heiland is located a little outside the village. Every year on November 6th, a pilgrimage takes place to the small chapel, where Saint Leopold, the patron saint of cattle and horses, is commemorated. The cultural center of the region is Kufstein. The small town is dominated by the Kufstein Fortress with the Kaiserturm on a hill in the center of the city. Kufstein attracts visitors all year round with cultural highlights such as Almab- and auftriebe, theater and operetta, wine festivals, and markets.
