In cooperation with the neighbouring town of Saalfelden, the holiday region Saalfelden Leogang was created. In the summer months, the holiday accommodation or the holiday apartment or house in Leogang is the ideal starting point for alpine activities – hiking, climbing, cycling, mountain biking and downhill. The network of designated hiking and cycling trails through dense forests and the rugged limestone of the Steinernes Meer and the Leoganger Steinbergen adds up to a proud 400 kilometres. The Bikerpark Leogang attracts downhillers and mountain bikers in the summer season. Here, international competitions of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup are held. Organised tours make relaxed hiking tours without luggage possible. In winter, the slopes of the Skicircus Saalbach-Hinterglemm/Leogang/Fieberbrunn with 270 kilometres of pistes are the place to be. The region offers black slopes, a family ski area, World Cup descents, snow parks and groomed cross-country ski trails. Off the beaten track, you can go tobogganing, winter hiking or horse-drawn sleigh riding. Magnificent Noriker horses pull the sleighs through the white winter landscape. A sleigh ride in the moonlight will be an unforgettable experience. You can also take your dog or pet with you and hike together through the surroundings of the magnificent region full of lakes and fields. The valley station of the Steinbergbahn is located about 1.5 kilometres after the centre of Leogang. The mountain station is at an altitude of 1,762 m and from there you have a wonderful view over the landscape, as well as from the station of the Asitzbahn.
From your cosy holiday accommodation in Leogang, some sights can be reached on foot. The landmark of the village is the baroque church with a Gothic tower. The church building dates from 1745, while the tower is still preserved from the predecessor building from the 14th century. The Mining and Gothic Museum Leogang is located in the district of Hütten. The collection is housed in a former mine manager's house. In addition to mining equipment, objects and old documents, the museum displays medieval art and crafts, thus keeping Leogang's long mining tradition alive. The winter and summer opening hours can be found on the website and admission for adults from 15 years is 10€ (as of December 2023). In the Schwarzleo district, you can even go a little underground in the Leogang Show Mine from May to October. It is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm. In the neighbouring and partner town of Saalfelden, several magnificent castles can be visited – Dorfheim, Farmach, Lichtenberg and Ritzen. Farmbach has been home to a retirement residence for more than 100 years. The castles Dorfheim and Lichtenberg are not open to the public. However, Ritzen Castle houses the Saalfelden Local History Museum with an exhibition of valuable cribs. The castle dates back to the 13th century in its origins. However, the complex has been rebuilt and altered several times over the centuries. Admission for adults from 18 years costs 7€ (as of December 2023). The opening hours can be found
Pan dishes, dumplings, stews and pastries – this is the mix of Austrian cuisine. In the Salzburg region, culinary traditions from the countries of the former monarchy – Hungary, Northern Italy (South Tyrol) and Bohemia – come together. The most famous dishes found on menus throughout Austria are Tafelspitz, Kaiserschmarrn and Wiener Schnitzel. Pinzgau disproves the prejudice that Austrian cuisine is particularly meat-heavy. Instead, hearty cheeses, butter, lard and fried foods are used. There are Pinzgau cookbooks without any meat and fish dishes. Try, for example, the typical Pinzgau Kasnocken and Kaspressknödel. Cabbage, dumplings or potatoes accompany the Sunday roast. The love for polenta as an alternative side dish comes from Italy. Another traditional pan dish is Nidei, which are fried potatoes with white cabbage or sauerkraut.
