Travel guide Bayrischzell
The Church of the Three Holy Maidens
Bayrischzell is located in the Alpine region, nestled in a magnificent mountain landscape. The Wendelstein, towering over 1,800 meters high, dominates the valley. The other surrounding mountains also rise steeply into the sky. In 1733, an abbot from Schryrer initiated the reconstruction of the parish church in Bayrischzell. The existing late Gothic tower was integrated into the new construction of the St. Margaretha Parish Church. Inside, you are greeted by the colorful splendor of rural early Rococo. The flat dome in the main room is adorned with a magnificent ceiling painting by Melchior Puchner, depicting the founding of the church by Countess Haziger.
The early Baroque high altar features Saint Margaret along with Saints Barbara and Catherine, known in Bavaria as the three holy maidens. Also worth seeing is the reception building of the Bayrischzell train station. The building and the former engine shed were built in the Alpine homeland style at the beginning of the last century. Typical for the architecture of the mountain village under the Wendelstein are the paneled upper floors and arcades. Find accommodation in one of the traditional houses of the village with views of the surrounding mountains.

Bayrischzell Art Exhibition takes place annually. Fans of contemporary art will find much to appreciate here. The exhibition is held at the elementary school and displays works by regional and nationally known artists. Under the motto "Bayrischzell Creative," artisans and artists from the region have come together. Hearty with a Sweet Finish
Eating and drinking in Bavaria, and in Upper Bavaria in particular, means indulging to the fullest. You will enjoy your vacation immensely. Bavarian cuisine is hearty and rich. The first course is usually a soup with fillings. Semolina dumplings, thin pancakes, or local mushrooms like porcini or chanterelles are added. The hard wheat semolina for grandma's pasta dishes and pastries is preferably grown near Andechs. Even Italian pasta manufacturers import from there. Meat is a staple of the main course. Pork knuckles, milk lamb, veal, and game are just as popular as the traditional white sausage with sweet mustard. A popular dessert is warm apple fritters.
If you enjoy cooking in your own vacation apartment or holiday home, you will find a wide selection of local products at the numerous farm shops and weekly markets in the region. Char and trout from the nearby lakes like Tegernsee and from numerous fish farms are often smoked and served on the plate. The cheese dairies produce excellent cheeses, and the quality of beef and game leaves nothing to be desired. In addition to the popular wheat beer, light beer, unfiltered and cloudy, is one of the local specialties. By the way, Germany's first brewing rights were granted in 1040 to the Benedictine Abbey Weihenstephan near Freising, close to Munich.
