Travel guide Fischbachau
The Adventurer's Magnet
Once you experience the magnificent mountain views in a wonderful location, you might never want to leave. Fischbachau and the nearby peaks in the beautiful nature enchant visitors time and again. The Free State of Bavaria is located in the transitional area from the maritime climate of Western Europe to the continental climate in Eastern Europe. The maritime climate features mild winters, cool summers, and high humidity. The continental climate, on the other hand, has cold winters, hot summers, and lower humidity. In the municipality of Fischbachau in the Bavarian Prealps, the average annual temperature is 7.1 degrees Celsius. A vacation in an apartment or holiday home is worthwhile in any season. The forests and mountains always magically attract people: whether for skiing, hiking, or more extensive mountain tours. Ideal for a
mountain vacation in Fischbachau. Numerous accommodations, or rentable houses, are already waiting for you.
The Home of Many Churches
Enjoy a vacation with a privately rented apartment or an affordable holiday home and experience a very special region of Germany. Besides the highlights in nature, there are other impressive sights in the area. For example, the former monastery in Fischbachau. It was founded in 1080 in
Bayrischzell as a Benedictine monastery. Due to the harsh climate, it was relocated to Fischbachau just five years later. Shortly thereafter, it moved again. The abbey had to move to Petersberg near Dachau. In 1119, it was finally housed in the former Scheyern Castle. The monastery in Fischbachau remained a priory of the Abbey in Scheyern. Today, you can admire impressive historical testimonies in St. Martin's Parish Church and the "Mariä Schutz" cemetery church. The Birkenstein pilgrimage church is also impressive. The history of the pilgrimage to Birkenstein dates back to 1673. The chapel is considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Bavaria. St. Andrew's Parish Church is another church highlight in Fischbachau. Connoisseurs count it among the most beautiful Baroque village churches in the Oberland. But there is also much to discover outside of Fischbachau. For example, visit Neubeuern and experience a romantic holiday location in the
Inntal, known for its castle and beautiful historic houses. Many people report it as the most beautiful village in Bavaria. The spa town
Bad Wiessee is also full of sights. With its beach, long lakeside promenade, spa and thermal bath, and various sports offerings, Bad Wiessee attracts tourists from all over the world.
When Walls Tell Stories
Renting an apartment or a holiday home also allows you to embark on a cultural tour of the area. At the end of July, the Fischbachau Music and Gastronomy Night is one of the major highlights. In mid-August, the Fischbachau Dumpling Festival invites numerous vacationers to a culinary journey of discovery. Brass music, Schuhplattler dances, and whip-cracking are part of the extensive, regionally typical program. Still quite young, but very impressive, is the Trinity Church in Wörnsmühl. It was built in 1965. The side concrete windows are intended to remind of the glorious various Baroque rooms of the Bavarian Oberland through their colors. The Jodlhof, first mentioned in documents in 1250, is also particularly worth seeing. The Baroque painter Jakob Behamb from Glonn was responsible for the beautiful frescoes on the facades of the farm, which tell their own stories. Another tip: Lake Tegernsee is worth visiting not just for the lake. The place is noticeable from afar for its large, magnificent castle, which originated from a Benedictine abbey. This ensemble is worth an extended visit and can also be ideally combined with a hike.
Typically Bavarian? Not Only!
Have you found an affordable apartment or holiday home? Then you can head straight to the next local restaurant in the region and explore the culinary world of Fischbachau on your own. The Klosterstüberl with its beer garden and typical Bavarian cuisine at the church square, in the former monastery, is particularly popular. True Bavarian style is also found at the Gasthof Zur Post on Birkensteinstraße. The Cafe Winklstüberl offers a large cake counter, street sales, and an impressive collection of coffee mills. The cafe is located about halfway from Fischbachau towards Elbach.
Generally, a classic lunch or dinner starts with a hearty and strong "Supp'n" (soup). It includes delicious fillings such as pancakes, semolina dumplings, or local mushrooms. These mushrooms also often find their way dried into the soup pot. As for meat, diversity reigns in the Upper Bavarian kitchens. Typical dishes include pork roast, pork sausages, and pork knuckles. However, the demand for young beef roast, milk lamb, or game from special breeding enclosures is growing. Smoked char and trout, e.g., from the ducal breeding in Wildbad Kreuth (south of Lake Tegernsee), are also popular. But vegetarians are also increasingly catered for in Upper Bavaria. The variety of desserts and cheese options is also impressive. The agricultural land of Upper Bavaria provides fine dairy products.
And the drinks? Just beer? Not at all! Of course, Bavaria and Upper Bavaria in general are world-famous for their local beer. In 1040, the first brewing rights in Germany were granted to the Benedictine monastery Weihenstephan. But: Wine is also on the rise. In some Upper Bavarian places, wine is being cultivated again, as it was centuries ago.
Tegernsee-Schliersee: A Region to Fall in Love With
Rent a holiday home or an apartment privately in the beautiful Tegernsee-Schliersee holiday region and look forward to a vacation in a natural paradise. The region is characterized by many crystal-clear lakes that regularly attract numerous family vacationers. Lake Tegernsee is considered the most famous and cleanest lake in Bavaria. Here, you can swim, sail, dive, cycle, or hike. It is also beautiful at Lake Spitzingsee or Lake Schliersee. Here too, there are countless possible activities for the whole family. A
vacation with a dog in Fischbachau is not uncommon. Bring your pets along and enjoy a hike together. If you want something more action-packed, you can also climb one of the most popular and well-known mountains in the Bavarian Alps: the 1838-meter-high Wendelstein. From the summit, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding area. Afterwards, a hike to the Wendelstein Cave, which holds ice well into the summer, is worthwhile. The Wendelstein Little Man Trail is also a beautiful hiking trail for families with several interesting adventure stations. But mountain bikers and leisure cyclists also get their money's worth. The Tegernsee-Schliersee region offers excellent conditions around the impressive mountain landscapes near Fischbachau in the Leitzach Valley. Off to hike, cycle, be happy!
A Bridge Designed by Students
Not only the great lakes like Lake Tegernsee or Lake Schliersee continuously enchant vacationers. Wendelstein is considered by many vacationers with an apartment or holiday home as the biggest highlight. The summit can be easily reached via a cog railway from Brannenburg or by cable car from Bayerischzell. The view across the Bavarian foothills is fabulous. Hiking can be so beautiful! Another highlight is the timber-framed Leitzachsteg bridge in the Fischbachau district of Hammer. The bridge was designed by students from the Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences as part of their thesis. Due to the timber framing and glass constructions, it is a protected structure. If you're planning a small excursion, you might consider the city of Rosenheim as a destination. In the 13th century, the county town emerged from a village. Today, you can find Baroque churches with onion domes, burgher houses, and accommodations in the Inn-Salzach style and elegant Gründerzeit buildings. The city parish church St. Nikolaus from 1641 is considered a landmark of this beautiful city. Wander through the center and breathe in the unique atmosphere.
