Travel guide Schliersee
Fascinating Excursion Destinations at Schliersee
The popular winter sports resort is located in the Miesbach Uplands and is the soul of
Bavaria. Spitzingsee and Schliersee are among the bathing lakes with the highest water quality.
The
Rotwand is the highest mountain in the Spitzingsee ski and hiking area, towering over 1,800 meters. Both in winter and summer, the region offers countless recreational activities. The holiday accommodations available are suitable for both a weekend getaway and a longer vacation with the whole family.
Schliersee is used for swimming, surfing, sailing, as well as electric or row boating. The most popular destination in the region is the
Schliersbergalm. You can reach the alpine pasture and the nearby summer toboggan run on foot or by cable car. A well-maintained forest path takes you to the alpine pasture in about an hour.
If you enjoy cycling, we recommend the touring bike pleasure tour to the Schliersee value producers. The starting and ending point is Schliersee station. Along the route, the
Whiskey Distillery Slyrs or the monte mare Sauna World invite you to explore and linger. A more leisurely pace can be enjoyed on a horse-drawn carriage ride. But a
hiking vacation in this region is also an unforgettable event. The opportunities for hiking and biking are virtually unlimited.
Customs and Tradition at Schliersee
But the sights are also not to be missed during a vacation in the region. The
Markus Wasmeier Open-Air Museum Schliersee is a farm village where the cultural heritage of the region is preserved and maintained for future generations. Admission costs €9.90 for adults, while children and teenagers up to 15 years old enter for free. Opening hours are (as of September 2023):

In historic buildings, you will find artfully crafted glass from the Schliersee glassworks dating from 1870 to 1914 and traditional costumes from the 17th to the 20th century. In the attic, there are tools used for fishing and for making linen fabrics. Adults pay €3 for admission, while children and teenagers from 6-16 pay €1. It is open from May to October during the following times (as of September 2023):

The Bauerntheater is one of the oldest in Germany and captivates with its artistic stage settings. The magnificent building is located directly at Xaver-Terofal-Platz. Every year at the end of July, the grand
Schliersee Lake Festival takes place. Highlights of the festival include traditional costumes, Schuhplattler dances, traditional fishermen's jousting, and of course, the whip-cracking. The festivities culminate in a grand fireworks display. The lake festival is rounded off with a colorful program of concerts, traditional, sports, and show dance performances. And the children are not left out: In Kinderland or on farms, the little ones can romp and expend their energy.
Family Time at Schliersee
The Parkstrandbad is located directly on the eastern shore of the lake. The shaded spots, sunbathing lawns, and beach areas are perfect for relaxing. In addition to a supervised non-swimmer area, a ping pong table, a sun terrace, and a Bavarian beer garden, there is an aqua park with a three-meter diving tower. Schliersee is also very popular for windsurfing, diving, stand-up paddling, and kayaking. If you rent a holiday apartment on a farm, you and your kids can join the farmers in their daily work.
A very popular foot and bike path is the Baum Adventure Path, which is also a circular route around the entire lake. The duration is about two hours, with a total length of approximately seven kilometers. Another worthwhile excursion destination is the Bodenschneidhaus. The Josefsthaler Waterfalls are also a popular destination with children.
Typical Bavarian Specialties
Bavaria is famous for its hearty cuisine. Griebenschmalz, Leberkäs, and Weißwurst are traditional specialties that are well-known beyond the region and have been labeled as “World Culinary Heritage.”
When staying in a holiday apartment at Schliersee, traditional delicacies are a must. Pretzels with Obatzda, hearty dumpling dishes, and Weißwurst can be enjoyed either in your accommodation, in a rustic beer garden, or in a cozy inn. Of course, a fitting drink is also part of a typical Bavarian meal. In the more than 600 traditional breweries, around 40 types of beer are produced.
Exciting Experiences at Schliersee
The summery swimming pleasure and the adjacent ski and hiking area make Schliersee a popular travel destination. The Tegernsee Valley is connected to Spitzingsee by a chairlift, from where you can reach even higher altitudes in the mountains with additional cable cars.
Whether swimming, horseback riding, skiing, hiking, or biking, Schliersee offers an impressive combination of natural beauty and variety. Shady forests, sunny mountain meadows, and alpine peaks characterize this region.
But not only the lake, the many sights also make a vacation in the Miesbach district worthwhile. The Old Schliersee Church Day is a wonderful tradition with a traditional flatboat ride across the lake, church fair, parade, and church service. This very special day takes place every year in early August at the Upper Bavarian Schliersee.
