Spacious House in Netherlands for 8 Guests

Kortgene

Felt relieved when I arrived after a long drive. The open kitchen was bright and inviting, perfect for cooking meals. The garden view from the living room was lovely and calming.

Villa in Zeeland with Private Terrace

We believe that we unjustly had to pay cleaning costs. On the booking reservation from Belvilla and also previously forwarded by the park, it was indicated that it was inclusive of these costs, and later Paardekreek indicated that we still had to pay it. Deposit to Belvilla 901 euros was according to Paardekreek 730. Called repeatedly but they did not respond. Because we wanted to make it a nice family weekend and did not want negativity, we paid. But with a quite unpleasant aftertaste.

Holiday Home near Veerse Meer

The house has everything you need for a pleasant stay. The check-in also worked well. However, a few more pieces of information (such as the function of the heating) would have been helpful. One should also know that the bathroom and the bedrooms are tiny... And the terrace and the garden were unfortunately a bit unkempt... But it was nice that a small goodie bag was provided for the dog and that you could let him into the garden without worries.

What do you need to experience in Kortgene?

Noord-Beveland – Born from Wind and Waves

In the vicinity of your holiday house or apartment in Kortgene and on Noord-Beveland, there is much to experience and discover. The history of the place dates back to the 13th century. The oldest parts of the Nikolaaskerk date from the 15th century. The nave was rebuilt after being destroyed by storm surges in the 17th century. However, the landmark of the village is the windmill De Korenbloem – the Cornflower, dating from 1873. Enjoy the clear air on a walk to the Delta Marina harbor in Kortgene. Delight in the amusing names of the boats from land or rent a sailboat yourself and set sail. The Veerse Meer and the Oosterschelde offer especially beginners a protected area. Especially in the summer months, there are numerous events in Kortgene such as ring riding, wakeboarding, and an annual fair. In the neighboring municipality of Wissenkerke, there are more historic windmills and some old houses in classic Dutch style. A true highlight of the region is the natural history museum Terra Maris in the former orangery of Westhove Castle near Oostkapelle. The vast landscape in the area with its miles-long beaches is also perfect for a holiday with a dog in Noord-Beveland. The dog beach at De Banjaard is one of the most beautiful dog beaches in Zeeland. There are numerous accommodations where pets are allowed.

Where can I eat out in Kortgene?

In the Land of Matjes and Lekkerbeks

The Dutch coastal cuisine is famous for its Matjes. Connoisseurs know that the real young Matjes, which is eaten raw, is only available in May and June. In all other months, the fish stalls dig this specialty deep from the freezer. The tradition of Matjes dates back to the 14th century. North Sea shrimps and mussels are also highly popular. In the province of Zeeland, there are still fishing boats that bring fresh fish from the North Sea ashore daily. The cod for the fried Lekkerbek offered everywhere in stationary and mobile fish stalls also comes from the freezer – but still tastes great, especially with one of the many greasy sauces. Haute cuisine is rare in the Netherlands. More popular are the relaxed Eetcafés, which can also be found near your affordable holiday apartment or house in Kortgene. There, you sit in a casual atmosphere, in summer on the terrace, and enjoy a glass of beer with the local "specialties."

How do I come to Kortgene?

Between the North Sea, Oosterschelde, and Veerse Meer

Kortgene is located on the (semi-)island of Noord-Beveland in Zeeland, Netherlands, which is connected by a fixed land link. To the north is the Oosterschelde estuary, and to the south, the Veerse Meer separates Noord-Beveland from Zuid-Beveland and Walcheren. You can easily and quickly reach your holiday apartment or private holiday home in Kortgene by car from Western Germany. From the Cologne area, you are about three and a half hours away via Antwerp. From the Ruhr area, it's only three hours to your accommodation in Kortgene. A tip: On long weekends, which are perfect for a beach holiday on Noord-Beveland, you should set off early in the day. Traffic jams in Germany and the Netherlands can otherwise extend your journey by more than an hour.
