Very nicely located with a private parking space in front of the door.

We have vacationed in this holiday home 4 times in a row. It is very clean and comfortably furnished. Ideal for our dog ?, he could walk around the house and observe everything. The property is fenced. Only a stone's throw to the dunes and great hiking trails to the beach. The contact was very friendly and helpful. We gladly recommend this house further.

Beautiful

Such a lovingly maintained house in country house style I have rarely booked. The equipment in the kitchen, the beautiful dishes, the living room with comfortable armchairs and sofa, and this garden - full of flowers, seating areas, shaded and sunny spots. The dunes are right behind it, you can do a lot in the area and great cycling. Absolutely recommendable!

Very cozy

We were 14 days in Pardenboos 13 and felt very comfortable. The box spring bed is super cozy and thank God not as hard as in other houses we had here. Everything is small but nice and clean. Porcelain and dishes are sufficiently available. At the end of the park, it was very, very quiet. Our dog also felt very comfortable in the completely fenced garden. Once again, a request to other tenants, it would be nice if one could soak the thermal carafe of the coffee machine with a dish tab (included in the welcome box) in case of extreme deposits, so that it looks appetizing again. The surroundings are ideal for cycling. We come to Zeeland every year and are always thrilled by the great friendly and relaxed people, the good air, and the beautiful surroundings. Unfortunately, the little house is already booked for next year, but for 2028 we might be quicker. Thank you dear sorglosindenurlaub team for easy booking and a relaxing vacation. We will come back.
Best regards, Sabine and Frank with Ella

Which sights are there in Burgh Haamstede?

Castle, Ring, Church

The village of Burgh was founded in the 9th century AD as a ring fort. You can still see this ring shape today. In Haamstede stands Haamstede Castle (Slot Haamstede), dating back to the 13th century. This castle with a defensive tower is one of the most popular attractions during a holiday in an affordable holiday home or apartment in Burgh Haamstede. Traces of Romans and Vikings have even been found on the castle island. During a guided tour, you can take a walk through the impressive estate with a huge garden. A park-like forest area is attached here. In the center of the village is the late Gothic Protestant St. John's Church, which is also worth a visit. Or you can hike to the monument for the lifeboatmen of Schouwen-Duiveland in the small port village of Burghsluis, located on the Oosterschelde. Until its destruction by the German occupiers in 1945, a station of the Royal Society for the Rescue of Drowning was located there.

What do you need to experience in Burgh Haamstede?

Everyone Looks Forward to Renesse

Renting a private apartment or a spacious holiday home in Burgh-Haamstede means having the beach practically at your doorstep. However, it is also worth exploring the beaches of the neighboring Renesse. The entire section is 21 kilometers long. Along the coast, you will find numerous beach cafes, some of which are open even in winter. The beaches have been awarded multiple times and impress with their diversity. There is something for families, active vacationers, nudists, or water sports enthusiasts at the beach in Renesse. We also recommend visiting the picturesque center of the town. In the summer, there are also night markets that stay open until midnight. In the surrounding area, you will find beautiful bike and hiking trails, for example, to Moermond Castle. In Nieuw-Haamstede, there is also the Westerlichttoren lighthouse, which at 53 meters is one of the tallest lighthouses in the Netherlands. Northeast of Burghsluis, on the dike, stands the Plomper Toren. It is the last remnant of the submerged village of Koudekerke. An impressive testimony to a long-gone era.

What can you experience in Burgh Haamstede with children?

Bike Tours, Pets, and Seaside Fun

The proximity to the sea and the quiet location make it possible: Burgh-Haamstede in the Netherlands is ideal for a holiday with a holiday home or apartment for the whole family. But your pet can also have a great time. Some landlords have specially designed their accommodation (sometimes with a garden) for dogs. So, if you want to spend and enjoy a holiday with a dog in Burgh-Haamstede, this is the right place. With your family, you can embark on a great bike tour. In the western part of the former island of Schouwen, you can take the "Kop van Schouwen" tour. Experience beaches, forests, dunes, and dune meadows along the North Sea coast. Also, the "small town" Brouwershaven, a former trading place on the Grevelingen, can be visited on this route. Children's hearts will soar when you visit the Mini Mundi children's park in Middelburg. Including miniature models of historic buildings, an indoor playground, and rides. For children and adults alike, the biggest highlight is undoubtedly the beach in Burgh-Haamstede. The beautiful Westerschouwen beach has won several awards, such as the "Blue Flag" for exceptional cleanliness. The beaches slope gently towards the sea, are calm, and are a major attraction for families. Water sports activities can also be enjoyed here.

Where can I eat out in Burgh Haamstede?

Eating from the Wall

The Dutch coast is known for fish, mussels, crabs, and oysters, served in various variations. On the beaches, you will also find numerous fish stalls where you can get fish sticks, mussels, or lekkerbek (fried cod). In the beach pavilions, the German steak, a meatball, is particularly popular. Stews are often offered here, such as pea soup. Borrelhapjes are snacks for in-between meals. These include fried bitterballen, poffertjes, French fries, and sandwiches. Locals and vacationers also love the warm croquettes, which you pull from a vending machine on the wall. So, don't be surprised if people talk about "eating from the wall." The traditional Dutch home cooking in the restaurants is also not to be underestimated. Meat or fish, vegetables, and potatoes almost always form the basis of every meal. Upscale kitchens mix these ingredients with the specialties of French or Flemish cuisine. The basis of the cuisine in Zeeland consists of fish, mussels, oysters, shrimp, algae, lamb, beef, and poultry. Since the sheep and cattle eat salty grass, their meat is also somewhat saltier than you might be used to. The Dutch like to drink milk on the coast. Wine consumption is also steadily increasing. Limburg and Belgian varieties are preferred for beers. Rent a holiday home or apartment privately and get to know Burgh-Haamstede and Zeeland also from a culinary perspective.

What is a must-see in Burgh Haamstede?

School as in the Past

Burgh-Haamstede in the Netherlands offers a wide range of holiday apartments or homes, all well-equipped and lovingly furnished. Once you have found the perfect accommodation, you can also get to know the traditions and cultural highlights of the Zeeland region. In Burgh-Haamstede, the Burghse Schoole on Kerkstraat is recommended. It is a museum housed in the former village school. Besides a classroom from 1920, you will see an exhibition about the Carolingian ring forts in Zeeland. Behind the museum building, you can even visit the remains of the refuge fort. Zeeland is also known for its art routes. A tour through twelve island villages and past works by over 200 artists leads through Schouwen-Duiveland. In Vlissingen, there are also bike and hiking trails that pass impressive artworks. On Noord-Beveland, "Kunstspoor" takes place on two weekends in August, when art is combined with a traditional festival. Many masterpieces by local artists are displayed in various galleries on the islands. That Zeeland is a province of art and artists is well known beyond the region. Zeeland has the most museums per capita in the entire country. For example, the muZEEum Vlissingen, which informs you in an exciting way about the maritime history of Zeelanders, is recommended. The Zeeuws Museum in the historic Abbey of Middelburg impresses with an impressive collection of tapestries.

How do I come to Burgh Haamstede?

Comfortably to the House in the Twin Village

Burgh-Haamstede is a village in the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland in the Dutch province of Zeeland. The village is located on the edge of a fascinating dune area with a wide sandy beach on the North Sea. Therefore, a beach holiday in Burgh-Haamstede is always recommended during the summer months. The two villages, Burgh and Haamstede, each have their own village center and church, forming the twin village. In both parts of the village, there are numerous holiday homes and apartments available for rent for a wonderful seaside holiday. If you are traveling by car to your accommodation, from Northern and Eastern Germany you would take the A7 or N7 (towards Groningen), the A28 (towards Utrecht), the A27 (towards Breda), and the A59 (towards Goes). From North Rhine-Westphalia and Southern Germany, for example, you would take the A3 (to the Elten border crossing), the A12 (towards Utrecht), the A27 (towards Breda), and the A57 (towards Goes). A tip for travelers coming from the direction of Cologne (E313): switch to the right lane shortly before Antwerp, as traffic jams often occur towards Brussels. Once you have turned right onto the Antwerp ring road, you are mostly done. You can also start your holiday by train. In Zeeland, trains stop at the stations in Kruiningen-Yerseke, Middelburg, Vlissingen, or Souburg. The village of Burgh-Haamstede is connected by bus line 134 to Neltje Jans, Vrouwenpolder, Kamperland, Moriaanshoofd, Zierikzee, Oude Tonge, Bruinisse, or Kerkwerve.
