Travel guide Poreč
Below 0? Not in Porec!
First of all, an impressive number: 2,380. That's how many hours of sunshine your dream destination receives annually. The peninsula is one of the sunniest areas in all of Europe. Summers are not too hot, and winters are rather mild. Therefore, Porec is a popular destination for vacationers renting a vacation home or apartment privately all year round. February is the coldest month, but on average, it is still 6 degrees Celsius. July is the warmest, with an average temperature of 24 degrees Celsius. The annual average is 14 degrees Celsius. Ten to eleven hours of sunshine are guaranteed every day in summer. Even at night, the temperatures remain very pleasant. Temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius are rare even in winter. Enjoy a beautiful ambiance and a pleasant climate by renting a cozy apartment or accommodation with a pool in Istria
here.
Caves and Walls
Those who rent a vacation home or apartment usually jump into the sea or relax on the nearest beach. It's true: a
beach vacation in Porec with a fantastic apartment or luxurious villa is always popular. However, there are also some very interesting sights to see. The most popular is undoubtedly the Euphrasius Basilica, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. The basilica is one of the most valuable cultural monuments in Croatia. Between the 3rd and 6th centuries, four church buildings were built in Porec. The Euphrasius Basilica is one of them and is still preserved today. Concerts and other cultural events take place here as well. Until the 18th century, most of the old town was surrounded by fortress walls. These are still partially well preserved and can be visited. There are also three towers from the 15th century, the remains of which are popular attractions. During the summer months, visitors can climb the round tower to the roof terrace and enjoy a magnificent view. Or stroll along Decumanus (the main street), which begins at the main square in the center. Here, besides numerous shops, you'll find attractions like the "Pentagonal Tower," the "Gothic House," the "Romanesque House," the "House of Two Saints," the "Zuccato Palace," or Marafor (the Roman Forum). Another popular excursion destination is the famous Baredine Cave, located just 14 kilometers from Porec. The cave consists of five halls and is a fascinating stalactite cave. The beauty of Baredine Cave is well-known and worth seeing.
Always celebrating
Many vacation apartments and houses are excellently equipped - for example, with Wi-Fi, private swimming pool, or garden. Often there is also a map available to help you explore the local cultural highlights. At the beginning of Porec, you will find Liberty Square. Cultural events such as the festival of Klappa or the folklore meeting regularly take place here. The impressive Church of Gospe od Andela, dating back to the 18th century, is also located here. The Gothic Franciscan Church, built in the 12th century, served as the Parliament of Istria until the end of the last century. Today, you can visit the imposing building with its Baroque frescoes and interesting art exhibitions in the museum. There are also various folk festivals celebrated in Porec. April 30th (Porec City Day) is even a holiday, with cultural and sporting events on the program. On the last Sunday in July, the traditional folk festival Mandalenjina takes place. Rokova (August 16th) is a religious festival celebrated in honor of St. Rok/San Rocco (St. Roch), the protector of the village
Nova Vas. On November 21st, locals celebrate Mavrova, a historical religious celebration in honor of the city’s patron saint. Various events take place on the Square of Freedom on this day.
Burek on the beach, seafood specialties in the houses
In the Gespanschaft, there is a rich and interesting culinary offer for all tastes. Specialties include Pršut, Risotto, or Maneštra. Dishes are often prepared with olive oil, a mix of herbs (bay leaves, garlic, parsley) and homemade wine. Small sardines marinated in a sauce of onions and wine are a favorite among locals in Porec. Of course, the proximity to the sea plays a special role. Sea bass, seabass, sole or gilthead bream are considered specialties. However, fish dishes are often more expensive than meat dishes. If you want a snack in between, you can also use one of the snack bars near the beach. Here you can get burek (dough pockets filled with meat, herbs, and sheep's cheese). Istria is also a typical wine country. Try, for example, the red and white Malvazija. The most famous wine of the
Kvarner Bay is the Zlatna žlahtina. For your vacation, we can recommend the restaurant Sv. Nikola, located right on the promenade. The restaurant Arlen has been voted the best restaurant in Porec several times. There are plenty of opportunities to get to know Porec in Istria while on vacation with an apartment in Spadici on the west coast on the Adriatic Sea or a vacation house, both from a culinary perspective.
100,000 m² of fun
Pack the whole family and spend a dream vacation in an apartment or vacation home. Many families also bring their dog along. A
vacation with a dog in Porec? A great idea! There are beautiful "wild beaches" and coves in the north of Porec where you can swim with your dog (e.g., Mali Maj, Saladinka). Pets are also explicitly allowed in some apartments and accommodations. Many more beaches are waiting to be explored with the family, offering plenty of relaxation. There are several attractions and activities for children at Borik Beach. Some sports facilities are available at the city beach Gradsko kupaliste. For a change of pace, visit the Aquacolors Porec water park, just about three kilometers from the city beach. Covering an area of 100,000 m², the park offers a fantastic range of activities for both young and old. Or explore some of the surrounding cities with your loved ones, such as
Vrsar or Novo Naselje.
Time travel by the sea
A vacation with an affordable vacation apartment or vacation home promises beautiful beaches by the sea, great sights, and cozy accommodations. It is worth exploring the surrounding area as well. Visit the romantic town of Motovun, which towers on a hill. An alley paved with old stone slabs leads you past the Church of St. Virgin Mary and quaint specialty shops up to the old city gates and lively heart of the old town. The large main square is home to numerous imposing buildings and houses. Numerous cycling and hiking paths lead through the adjacent Mirna Valley. Another highlight is Pula, the largest and oldest city in Istria. The amphitheater, the Arena of Pula, is the most famous landmark. It was the second largest arena in the Roman Empire and was built between 2 B.C. and 14 A.D. Pula is always bustling with activity. Enjoy the city's flair and let yourself be enchanted by its history and living tradition. Or visit picturesque
Rovinj, located between Porec and Pula. Many people consider it one of the most beautiful places in all of Croatia. Immerse yourself in the romantic old town with its narrow streets, experience the vibrant waterfront promenade, or relax on the soothing beaches and coves along the Riviera of Rovinj. Here, too, you will find numerous private apartments and homes with sea views on the western coast of the island.
