Magical accommodation for the whole family

We have already been several times in this wonderful holiday home with garden and two beach chairs.
We have a small child and a dog, and there is something for everyone.
Our child has the opportunity to play outside in the garden with a playhouse, slide, and sand toys.
The garden is completely fenced, which is an absolute dream for guests with a dog.
In addition, there is a variety of bicycles, a balance bike, and a cart, not to mention TWO beach chairs. We were thus able to decide whether to go to the dog beach or not, as there is a beach chair at both beaches.

The house is beautifully and cozily furnished. It has all the amenities one needs.
The beds are very comfortable and there are many storage options.

The care from Ms. Thaler was very pleasant and familiar.

We felt very comfortable and are already looking forward to the next stays.

A nest in the cloud

A quietly located apartment, from which one can reach everything important on foot. The contact with the landlady was very friendly. The apartment was prepared as agreed, very clean and lovingly decorated. The kitchen is well equipped and also offers enough space to cook for two. The washing machine, which can be used for free, is a great plus. Clothes drying rack, broom, dustpan, etc. are also available. The beds were very comfortable, thanks to the thick mattresses. We are happy to come back.

Which sights are there at the North Sea?

The Most Beautiful Attractions in the Region

If you thought there are no attractions around a dike and on the beach, let the North Sea prove you wrong. Popular destinations include the numerous lighthouses along the coast and on the islands. Sylt alone has five lighthouses! On the mainland, the "Dicke Berta" in Cuxhaven and the Westerheversand lighthouse near Sankt Peter-Ording are particularly beautiful and open to visitors. The historic harbor in Tönning, the castle in Husum, the botanical garden in Wilhelmshaven, and the picturesque old town of Norden are other attractions and popular destinations for excursions. Or have you always wanted to know how and where large cruise ships and luxury liners are built? Then a trip to the Meyer Shipyard in Papenburg is a must. During a shipyard tour, you can experience modern shipbuilding up close. If your vacation apartment or house is on Sylt, you should visit the Red Cliff at least one evening. It's more of a natural spectacle than an attraction: the steep coast is bathed in a blood-red light at sunset, a truly unique sight. But perhaps the greatest attraction on the North Sea coast is the sea itself—especially at low tide. When the water recedes, people of all ages head out for a mudflat hike. During a guided tour, you'll learn all about the natural habitat and its inhabitants and can ask any questions you have. Be sure to pack rubber boots. If it's warm, you can of course go barefoot.

What do you need to experience at the North Sea?

The Wadden Sea - UNESCO World Natural Heritage since 2009

If you don't go on a mudflat hike during your vacation at the North Sea, you're missing one of the country's greatest attractions. The Wadden Sea National Park is divided into the Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Lower Saxony Wadden Sea. All three parts are part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Wadden Sea. It's best to book a guided tour, as no one can provide you with more information about the nature reserve than a knowledgeable local staff member. Along the North Sea and on the islands, there are information centers with informative exhibitions that are also very interesting for children. The National Park House Wurster North Sea Coast in Dorum-Neufeld features large aquariums where you can watch some inhabitants of the mudflats live in action. The offer also includes special mudflat hikes for families, ornithological tours, bike tours, and sea sparkle. The Multimar Wattforum in the cozy harbor town of Tönning is another information center, the largest in Schleswig-Holstein. From afar, you can see the slogan "Whales, Wadden Sea, and World Natural Heritage" on the facade. In addition to classic hikes through the mudflats, there are also tours in Low German, a tour of the aquariums in the dark, readings, and fish feedings. Many of the events are great for children, making the national park houses exciting excursion destinations for all family members. The combination of beaches, lighthouses, and the Wadden Sea, paired with healthy fresh air, good food, and affordable vacation apartments or houses from private owners, makes the North Sea an attractive destination for your next vacation. Experience the charm of East Frisia and North Frisia, enjoy the peace and the sound of the sea in an accommodation in a quiet location, and forget about everyday life for a while. The North Sea will make it easy for you!

What can you experience at the North Sea with children?

There's Plenty for the Whole Family to Discover

Your children immediately think of the beach and sea when they hear the word North Sea coast? Then they are absolutely right. Whether the family heads to the East Frisian Islands, the North Frisian Islands, or the mainland—the next sandy beach is never far away. The fact that the water isn't really there at low tide often doesn't bother little water rats much. There's so much to discover in the mudflats that boredom is unlikely to arise. Plus, the kids will love stomping in the muddy silt. Make sure they take off their rubber boots before returning to the accommodation after such a hike. Families are especially found on the Eiderstedt Peninsula, on Borkum and Amrum, but also in Friedrichskoog and St. Peter-Ording in Schleswig-Holstein, as well as in Cuxhaven-Döse. Here, there are great beaches and numerous affordable vacation apartments and houses in close proximity to the beach and in quiet locations. If it happens to rain for three days, a visit to the adventure pool on Borkum will bring back the good mood. This is also true for parents, as it has a generous spa area. A major highlight for young vacationers is also a trip to the seal station Friedrichskoog, where they can watch seals and sea lions up close. In the family-friendly town of Friedrichskoog, over 2,500 square meters are reserved for limitless play fun: The 125-meter-long Whale Willi houses an indoor play park, offering everything from climbing walls to mazes to electric go-kart tracks, making little adventurers' hearts beat faster. To stay on the topic of animals: Is one of your best friends a dog? Then bring them along on the trip. Many accommodations welcome pets. To ensure that the vacation with a dog at the North Sea remains relaxed for everyone, please note that the four-legged friend is only allowed to romp and swim at specially designated beaches. But don't worry, there are even dog beaches on Sylt! If you want to walk your pet on the dike or even take it on a mudflat hike, it must be leashed. In Friedrichskoog-Spitze, special mudflat hikes with dogs are even offered. This way, your four-legged friend can also make vacation acquaintances.

Where can I eat out at the North Sea?

Delicious from the Sea: Gourmet Vacation on the Coast

If you love good food, then a vacation in a vacation apartment or house on the North Sea is a great idea. Sit in a quaint restaurant on a dike, enjoy the view of the sea, and let the local delicacies melt on your tongue. Local specialties, of course, include fish dishes of all kinds. Herring, salmon, halibut, sole, and haddock are freshly caught from the North Sea and turned into soup and delicious fillets. If you get a little hungry in between, grab a roll with matjes or freshly caught North Sea shrimp. Seafood fans should also treat themselves to Royal Oysters from Sylt, considered a special delicacy! Not a fan of fish? Then look forward to tasty game and meat dishes. From pork knuckle to ribs to cooked sausages, everything can be found in North Sea cuisine. A very traditional meal in the cold season is kale with Pinkel sausage. If your vacation in the private apartment falls in autumn or winter, you must not miss it. Cabbage is generally often served as a side dish. Sweet treats are also catered for: Franzbrötchen, quark balls, lingonberry cake, and red fruit jelly round off a hearty meal. It really settles after a shot of Friesengeist or Küstennebel. Your vacation apartment or house is too cozy to leave again in the evening? Then simply buy your groceries at the supermarket and use the well-equipped kitchen of your accommodation to cook something. If your vacation home has a large garden, you can also sit outside in the summer. Ambitious grill masters should try their hand at a fish barbecue! And if you want to do as the locals do, always have a pack of Black East Frisian tea in the house.

What is a must-see at the North Sea?

Museums and Culture in East Frisia, North Frisia, and Beyond

If you're someone who likes to learn about the area where you're staying during your vacation, there are plenty of museums at the North Sea. Popular destinations include the "Windstärke 10" museum about fishing history in Cuxhaven, the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven, the East Frisian Tea Museum in Norddeich, and the Coastal Museum in Wilhelmshaven. Even the Hallig Hooge has a museum, namely the Homeland and Hallig Museum. Exhibitions and facilities in many other places also provide information about life at the North Sea, its history, and culture, such as the open-air dike museum in Büsum. Art lovers should keep an eye on the Nolde Foundation Seebüll. The famous painter Emil Nolde was born nearby. The museum hosts changing exhibitions each year but is closed over the winter. Literature enthusiasts will perk up at the name Theodor Storm: The writer was born in Husum. The house where he lived from 1866 to 1880 is now a museum and can be visited. Another poet, Joachim Ringelnatz, is commemorated in Cuxhaven with a foundation and exhibition rooms. A quiet evening in the vacation apartment or house is nice, but sometimes you might want to go out in the evening. The Stadttheater Wilhelmshaven is home to the Landesbühne Niedersachsen Nord and offers a varied program of theater, shows, readings, and concerts. The Kulturscheune in Lütetsburg is also a venue for cultural events. A popular destination, not just for classical concerts, is the Remonstranten Church in the picturesque town of Friedrichstadt. Night owls have the best opportunities to dance the night away on Sylt.

How do I come to North Sea?

Directly to Your North Sea Vacation

The German North Sea coast borders the German states of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. It is divided into various regions and islands. Popular among visitors are the East Frisian Islands, the North Frisian Islands, Dithmarschen, East Frisia, and North Frisia. Affordable vacation apartments and homes from private owners are available, for example, in places like Cuxhaven, St. Peter-Ording, Büsum, Friedrichskoog, and Norddeich, as well as on the Butjadingen Peninsula. Sylt is the only island you can reach without having to cross the sea by ferry. Due to its popularity, it is served by flights from many German cities during the summer months. The 11.2-kilometer-long Hindenburgdamm also connects the island to the mainland, with a railway service running along it. It is not intended for private vehicles. Both the East Frisian Islands—Borkum, Norderney, Langeoog, Spiekeroog, Juist, Wangerooge, and Baltrum—and the North Frisian Islands—Sylt, Föhr, Amrum, Pellworm, and Nordstrand—are accessible by passenger and car ferries from the mainland. If you want to visit one of the smaller Halligen, a ferry ride from Schüttsiel is unavoidable—and without a car. Most visitors arrive by their own vehicle to the North Sea to stay mobile throughout their vacation. However, the train also serves many coastal towns, such as Norddeich, St. Peter-Ording, and Büsum. The nearest major airports are located in Hamburg and Bremen. Once there, you can rent a car and continue your journey independently of train and bus schedules—right to the doorstep of your vacation apartment or house.
