Beautiful little house

The equipment was great! What was available in the garden was simply wonderful. The promised dishwasher tabs were not there, but there was baking paper, toilet paper, soap, a dishcloth, sponges, coffee filters, and salt. Most windows have fly screens, although two of them were already broken. The house is quite fascinatingly built and feels really cozy and inviting. We enjoyed our time very much.

Great, we’d love to come back!

With 4 people, 2 adults and 2 children including a dog, we had everything we needed to unwind from the big city in this holiday home. The house is equipped with everything needed for everyday life, the garden is huge, and the river with pedal boats is simply a dream.
We would love to come back.

Very cozy holiday home, lovingly decorated!

We really liked the holiday home. Everything was very clean. All rooms were tastefully furnished and decorated. Despite the not-so-great weather, we enjoyed our time in East Frisia because we had such a nice and cozy accommodation. Additionally, we were greeted and bid farewell very kindly by the landlords. It was all very personal.
We can highly recommend the holiday home.

What do you need to experience in Dornum?

Imposing Mills, Castles, and Palaces in Dornum

With holiday accommodation, a house, or an apartment in Dornum, you, your family, and children not only have an ideal starting point for mudflat hikes or beach walks but can also embark on a cultural discovery tour. Don't miss the baroque water castle in the town center, built in the 14th century by chieftain Hicko Kankena. Visit the fascinating complex and enjoy cultural highlights on the castle grounds, including annual knight games, concerts, artisan markets, or the Dornum Art Days. Similarly impressive is the Beningaburg, surrounded by old trees and a moat. Also notable are the medieval churches built on warfts in the middle of small villages, which served as refuges during storm surges. At the entrance to Dornum stands the only remaining post mill in East Frisia, now a landmark of the town. There are four other well-preserved mills in the municipal area: the windmill in Neßmersiel, the gallery Dutch mill in Nesse with the Norddeich Radio Technical Museum, the small mill in Westebur, and the jewel mill in Westeraccum, built in 1732. You can delve into Jewish history at the Dornum synagogue, which hosts a permanent exhibition on Jewish life. The synagogue is the only one remaining of the twelve synagogues once in East Frisia. If you want to take a day trip by ship or ferry, we recommend trips to the North Sea island of Baltrum (from Neßmersiel) or to the East Frisian island of Langeoog and to the seal banks (from Dornumersiel). Simply rent holiday accommodation, an apartment, for example, in Dornumersiel, or a house directly by the sea with a garden, water view, ample space, and terrace, and relax during your North Sea holiday according to your personal wishes on the North Sea coast and surroundings.

What can you experience in Dornum with children?

Of Seals and Beach Chairs

No North Sea holiday is complete without a visit to the Wadden Sea. Rent a holiday home or apartment for your trip to Dornum, and you'll have the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea right at your doorstep. Explore Dornumerland and the fascinating sea on a guided mudflat hike from the mainland to the island and discover a unique world. Relax with the whole family on the beach and in a beach chair, letting the soothing ambiance of the North Sea coast wash over you. Not just beachgoers get their money's worth. Book a cutter trip to the seal banks, watch the impressive ships, or engage in thrilling water sports. Also, a holiday with a dog in Dornum is ideal thanks to the beautiful dog beach. Explore the seaside surroundings with your dog and children and experience unforgettable North Sea holidays. Be sure to also take a trip to one of the islands. For instance, Baltrum is the "Sleeping Beauty" of the North Sea, the smallest of the East Frisian Islands, thus also an island of short distances. You could also travel to Butjadingen.

Where can I eat out in Dornum?

Tea Drinking as Culture

In Dornum and the surrounding area, you can sample typical East Frisian delicacies. The regional cuisine is known for being hearty and robust. Specialties traditionally include Grönkohl (kale), Labskaus, Pirrel in de Pütt, Prüllkes, Karmelkbree, Lei-Wieven-Köst, Klütje, and Dörstampt Wuddels. Dried beans, legumes, cured meats, and bacon are commonly used ingredients. East Frisians are renowned tea drinkers, enjoying a hot cup leisurely in typical Melkhuskes, coffee or tea houses, and restaurants. A classic is the delicious East Frisian tea with cream. Liqueurs and beers from local breweries are also highly popular. Rent a private holiday home or apartment in Dornum and savor your East Frisian holiday!

How do I come to Dornum?

This small community on the North Sea is part of the Aurich district in East Frisia and borders the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. You can arrive via the East Frisian Coastal Railway or the train station in Esens, which is 14 kilometers away. By road, you can take the L5 (Norden - Dornum - Esens) or the L7 (Dornum - Aurich). Nearby, the A31 runs between Emden and Bottrop. Book a cozy holiday accommodation, an apartment, or a house with a garden, terrace, and sea view, and enjoy a relaxing North Sea holiday tailored to your personal wishes in Dornumerland.
