Are you still looking for the right holidaymakers for your holiday home or apartment?
The highlight is, of course, the Schwerin Castle, located on an island in the middle of Lake Schwerin. After touring the castle, you can stroll through the Castle and Palace Gardens. The park is considered the most beautiful Baroque complex in Northern Germany. Next, head to the Old Garden. Contrary to what the name suggests, the Old Garden is a centrally located square. Not far from there is also the Schwerin Cathedral. From the 101-meter-high Schwerin TV Tower, you can take one last look at the entire city at the end of your walk through the Old Town. Among the attractions in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that you should not miss is definitely the Mecklenburg Lake District. Lake Schwerin alone offers water sports opportunities, walks with beautiful lake views, or a trip with the White Fleet.
Not only does the Mecklenburg Lake District fascinate with its numerous bodies of water, but the Mecklenburg Switzerland also invites you to take walks and hikes. Schwerin is the ideal starting point for a side trip to the Baltic Sea or to the Hanseatic city of Wismar. The town of Neustadt-Glewe is also worth a visit. There, in addition to a castle and a fortress, there are many noteworthy churches. Just rent an apartment in Schwerin and see for yourself everything the city and surrounding area have to offer!
For a family vacation, choose a family-friendly accommodation in Schwerin in a quiet location by Lake Schwerin. If you feel like visiting the sea, you can also make a day trip to the Baltic Sea beach. It takes just under an hour by car to reach the island of Poel. For possible rainy days, Schwerin offers many indoor activities, such as the International Fire Brigade Museum. It is the largest of its kind in Germany. Admission costs €8 for adults and €4 for children and teenagers aged 6 to 16. Opening hours (as of September 2023) are: • 04/01 – 10/31: 10 AM – 6 PM (Tue-Sun) Another idea for bad weather is the WONNEMAR Adventure Pool in Wismar. Some areas are currently being renovated and the slide tower is under maintenance (as of September 2023).
During your lake vacation in Schwerin, you will hardly be able to bypass the hearty cuisine of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The menus feature many game and meat dishes. The proximity to the Baltic Sea means fresh fish, often smoked. A specialty is the Schwerin Grützwurst. You can try it at the restaurant Tau Helga. Products from regional cultivation are also frequently used - especially potatoes, affectionately called "Tüften."
Directly opposite Schwerin Castle is the Mecklenburg State Theatre. Be sure to spend an evening attending a performance or event in this historic building. Check out the program in advance. If you are more interested in museums, visit the Castle Museum, the Grinding Mill, or the State Museum Schwerin - there is no shortage of options. A bit further out, there is another special highlight: the Schwerin-Mueß Open Air Museum. Surrounded by ancient farmhouses, you can immerse yourself in the rural life of the 19th century. Admission costs €5 for adults and €2 for children and teenagers aged 7 to 17. Opening hours (as of September 2023): • 04/08 – 09/30: 10 AM – 6 PM (Tue-Sun) • 10/01 – 10/31: 10 AM – 5 PM (Tue-Sun)
