Are you still looking for the right holidaymakers for your holiday home or apartment?
Combine your vacation in an apartment with a romantic walk through the enchanting old town of Lübeck and a visit to its numerous attractions. With a privately rented vacation apartment, you have an ideal starting point for unforgettable holidays. For over 800 years, seven impressive towers have been guiding travelers to their destination. Whether by land or water, from afar you can see the breathtaking silhouette of the venerable Hanseatic city of Lübeck. Here, you get a good taste of the beauty and grandeur of the former Hanseatic queen. Due to its location in Schleswig-Holstein, just a few kilometers from the Baltic Sea, the place is affectionately known as the gateway to the north. It has been over 850 years since Count Adolf of Schauenburg granted the merchant settlement of Lübeck city rights. The city owes much of its appearance to Henry the Lion, who completely rebuilt it after a fire in 1157. Lübeck's Impressive Churches Many significant buildings and old town houses testify to the glorious history of the economic powerhouse. The cathedral from 1247 is located in downtown Lübeck and is the oldest church there. Like St. Peter's and St. Mary's churches, it was largely destroyed during World War II and rebuilt. The third largest church in Germany is the impressive St. Mary's Church, located behind the town hall. This significant building in the center was built in Brick Gothic style. Although smaller, the churches St. Aegidien, St. Jakobi, and St. Petri are still impressive. St. Peter's Church is a popular exhibition and event center. If you climb the 544 steps to the viewing platform at the top of the tower, you will enjoy a beautiful view of Lübeck's old town. Another popular attraction is the Lübeck Town Hall, built between 1230 and 1308, which still serves as the administrative seat of the Hanseatic city. With its ornate halls, Renaissance arcades, and magnificent facade, the building is one of the largest and most beautiful town halls in Germany. In the Middle Ages, the city was entered through four gates: the Holsten Gate, the Hüxter Gate, the Castle Gate, and the Mill Gate. The first mentioned is the landmark and once adorned the 50-mark bill. In the north, the second still existing Castle Gate is located. If you come from the north into the city, you still have to pass through the arch from 1444 today. The Pearls of Lübeck's Old Town The Armory, the Holy Spirit Hospital, the Castle Monastery, and the Holsten Gate: only a few German cities have such a multitude of historically significant buildings. Stroll from your accommodation along the romantic alleys in the old town to beautiful patrician houses, which today house restaurants, cafes, shops, and apartments. The Lübeck courtyards and alleys are unique worldwide and particularly typical. For example, the noteworthy alleys include Füchtingshof and Glandorpsgang. In the heart of the city center, many lovingly restored houses and vacation apartments offer high comfort.
A highlight during your trip to the old Hanseatic city on the Trave is the Baltic Sea resort of Travemünde, where there are also numerous comfortable, private apartments, guesthouses, and holiday homes. Located directly at the mouth of the Baltic Sea, this district of Lübeck offers a wide sandy beach and beautiful, historic houses. The passing ships, as well as one of the oldest lighthouses in Germany, are unforgettable experiences. In the fishing harbor of Travemünde, there is a great maritime atmosphere. If you want to treat your family to a delicious meal in the vacation apartment, you can buy fresh fish here. The vacation apartments on the beach are not only a worthwhile place for a vacation during the warm season. On rainy days, you and your children will spend varied hours with a sea view at the Ostsee-Therme adventure pool on Timmendorfer Strand, covering about 18,000 sqm. If you feel like going shopping or taking a walk, Breite Straße in the center of Lübeck is just the place for you. Here, numerous stores, restaurants, and cafes invite you to relax and linger. Also, make a detour to the popular Fischergrube.
Compared to a hotel, you can make your stay in a vacation apartment or holiday homes more individual and cost-effective. If you rent a family-friendly vacation apartment from a friendly host in Schleswig-Holstein for your city trip with children, you should visit the Puppet Theater Museum. In this museum, over 1000 theater puppets from several continents are displayed. If you have enough time, you can see the puppets dance in the neighboring theater. Along the rivers Trave and Wakenitz, you can go cycling and walking with your family. Or how about a city tour by boat? If you rent a holiday home or vacation apartment in the summer, you can swim at one of the numerous bathing spots at Krähenteich, on the Wakenitz, or of course in the Baltic Sea resort of Travemünde. In the Lübeck Marzipan Museum, you can admire curiosities for free and of course also buy beautiful souvenirs. If you have enough time, take a trip to Hamburg and check out Miniatur Wunderland and the Speicherstadt.
If you are spending your vacation in an apartment with your loved ones or in another holiday accommodation with enough rooms in Lübeck, you must definitely enjoy the fresh Baltic Sea fish. Furthermore, the trading city is known for delicious marzipan and fine red wine. In traditional restaurants, such as the Ratskeller, the Schiffergesellschaft, and the Schabbelhaus, the kitchen team serves delicious meat specialties and, of course, the national dish Labskaus with herring and fried egg. Wonderful marzipan treats are available at Café Niederegger; on the second floor, there is an interesting museum. If you want to cook in your vacation apartment, you should visit one of the many markets. Here, you can get fresh food from the Schleswig-Holstein region and the Baltic Sea.
In Lübeck's museums, you can admire stories, dolls, and art. If you spend several days in your vacation apartment, you should definitely visit these museums. The Günter Grass House is located at Glockgießerstraße No. 21 and was opened in 2002. The permanent exhibition displays exhibits from the sculptural and literary work of Günter Grass. The Buddenbrook House is dedicated to the writer Thomas Mann, who grew up in Lübeck, and his brother Heinrich. In the St. Annen Museum, you can take a look at Lübeck's past. Here, you will encounter everyday and household items as well as religious artworks from the last 500 years. In the Holstentor Museum, located in the tower of the same name, you will learn how Lübeck became one of the most important cities in Germany during the Middle Ages. The Willy Brandt House Lübeck, with its permanent exhibition on German history and Willy Brandt, is an interesting educational site.
You can easily reach your booked vacation apartment in Lübeck by train or by car via the A1 and A20 highways. The nearest airports are Lübeck Airport and Hamburg Airport. From here, a bus will take you to your vacation home in a short time. Due to its location in the north, just a few kilometers from the coast, the city is an important trade center in Northern Europe. The Skandinavienkai in Lübeck Travemünde hosts the largest German ferry port on the Baltic Sea. After your stay in the vacation apartment, you can embark on a ship journey from here.
