Four nights here felt pleasant for working remotely. The Wi-Fi remained strong, and the sofa bed turned out to be surprisingly comfortable for additional guests. The location near the Hochoetz lift allows quick access to hiking or skiing tours without hassle.

The house is in a particularly beautiful location. From the balcony and large terrace you can look at impressive mountain ranges on all sides. The house is easily accessible, but for groceries you have to descend 2 km to Oetz. No problem with the car, but not easy on foot given the steep road. The house itself is located on the first floor (bedrooms) and the second floor (bedroom, living room, kitchenette, small shower room, toilet and narrow long balcony with seating. Everything you practically need is there. However, the lack of an extractor hood was a loss during our warm stay. It became uncomfortably warm in the kitchen, which has no door. So the heat and food smells spread throughout the entire top floor. There is also a dishwasher. Not insurmountable, but impractical. Furthermore, the beds are quite hard, to say the least. Something we had to get used to. The owner and her husband are very helpful and friendly. The house is clean and there are plenty of towels available.

There is a lot to do in the immediate area. With the Oetztalcard you can use many things such as mountain lifts, swimming pools and public transport for free. You will quickly earn back the investment as mountain lifts are often very expensive. We also recommend a visit to the Kaunertal (40 minutes' drive). A non-touristy valley full of natural beauty and beautiful views. All in all, a big enough score.

We had a very nice ski weekend at the accommodation. The house is new, very well-maintained, and we really liked the apartment. The hostess was very friendly, always approachable, and responded quickly and easily to our questions. We felt completely comfortable and can definitely recommend the accommodation.

What do you need to experience in Oetz?

A leap into warm waters

Some sights in and around Oetz can be easily reached on foot from your holiday home with Wi-Fi in the Alps. In the old town center, some historical inns with façade paintings invite you to stop for a bite to eat. The Tower Museum, with an exhibition on the cultural history of the region, is also located in the town. The museum received the Tyrol State Museum Prize in 2004. The late Gothic parish church dates back to the early 16th century, with some parts dating back to the 14th century. A baroque makeover was carried out in the 18th century. A natural sight that has been protected since 1929 is Lake Piburger. The 800-meter-long lake was formed by a rockfall. The largest lake in Ötztal reaches bathing temperatures of 23°C in the summer months, making it the warmest mountain lake in the area.

What can you experience in Oetz with children?

Over hill and dale to the Kidspark

Oetz and the Ötztal offer a wide range of activities for your vacation as a summer and winter destination. The summer months belong to hikers, cyclists, climbers, and kayakers. Travelers with pets or dogs will also be happy here. The Ache River is a popular spot for rafters, regularly hosting kayak championships. By bike, you can reach the Kühtai saddle from Oetz. The west-east crossing is considered a challenging bike tour. In winter, the Hochoetz ski area attracts visitors for a skiing holiday in Oetz. Two gondola lifts take you from the valley station up to an area that is 100% equipped with snow cannons, ensuring snow for the entire season on all 39 kilometers of slopes. The Wetterkreuzbahn mountain station is at an altitude of 2,272 meters. Seven huts provide refreshment stops between descents, and once a week, the slopes are illuminated until 10 pm for night skiing. A visit to the over 5,000 m² Kidspark in Oetz should definitely be planned for families with children. The playground, designed under the theme of Knappenwelt and Bergwerk, is one of the largest freely accessible playgrounds in Tyrol, where children can happily play on slides and climbing frames. Also, plan a trip to Sölden, Umhausen, Längenfeld, Ischgl, or Kühtai.

Where can I eat out in Oetz?

From the Brettljause to fine wine

When looking for a place to stop for a bite to eat, watch out for the green sign with three leaves. This symbol represents a group of traditional Tyrolean inns committed to preserving typical Alpine cuisine with regional products and recipes. Let's take a look at the menus of the mountain huts here: you'll find Kasknödel with Tyrolean gray cheese, Tyrolean dumplings with bacon, and Schlutz or Schlipfkrapfen, a type of ravioli filled with potatoes. For a hearty snack during or after a challenging hike, a Brettljause with fresh bread, regional sausage and cheese specialties, as well as pickles and egg, is recommended. Like the Brettljause, the traditional Ripperlessen (pork ribs with horseradish) is also served on a wooden board. A fresh beer goes best with all these hearty delicacies. Although the region is not wine country, you'll find excellent wines from Burgenland or Styria as well as Italian South Tyrol on the wine lists. In summer, try a refreshing Grüner Veltliner, or in winter, by the fireplace, a red Zweigelt.
