Popular festivities in Sauerland include the shooting festivals like that of the Iserlohn Citizens' Shooting Club, which hosts the largest folk festival in South Westphalia. Carnival is also celebrated grandly in the region. One of the most famous Rose Monday parades takes place in Warstein-Belecke. In Attendorn, you can visit the largest Violet Tuesday parade, which attracts up to 30,000 visitors. From June to September, the Karl May Festival in Elspe is one of the cultural highlights in Sauerland. The famous Winnetou actor Pierre Brice once took on the lead role in the plays himself.
