The Mas de la Gavaresse

The Mas de la Gavaresse was perfect for us. We were 5 families (10 adults, 8 children) and it had enough space for everyone, with nice tenants and great service. Also, the price was very fair. If you are a large group, a car is more practical for shopping or excursions, but you can also do everything by public transport or on foot. We will gladly return! "Le Mas de la Gavaresse" était parfait pour nous (5 familles), il y avait assez de place, un grand jardin à usage exclusif, des hôtes sympathiques (que nous avons vus en personne, ce qui est rare de nos jours) et le service était fantastique, de plus le prix était très juste.
Pour les grands groupes, une voiture est pratique pour les courses et les excursions, mais on peut aussi se déplacer à pied ou avec les transports en commun.
Nous reviendrons avec plaisir !

Wonderful oasis

We spent a wonderful vacation as a family of four in the apartment l'Orangerie. The apartment is beautifully furnished and the beds are very cozy. We particularly liked the light-filled living room with a view of the lush and tall garden. It is very quiet, although you are only a 10-minute walk from the beach. The morning walk to the bakery was also relaxing. One can also hike directly from the house and is rewarded with a magnificent view over the Mediterranean. I could describe so many beautiful things... but not to be forgotten are Estelle and Marc with their warm, helpful, and humorous nature. We laughed a lot together. We will come back!

Highlights on the cosmopolitan beach resort Côte d'Azur

No matter where you rent your traditional holiday home or cosy luxury holiday apartment on the Côte d'Azur in southern France, you will have numerous sights right at your doorstep. The azure blue sea is always part of this breathtakingly beautiful cultural landscape. Many of the towns and cities owe their origins to small fishing settlements. Saint-Tropez or Antibes were white spots on tourist maps at the beginning of the 20th century. It suddenly became famous in the fifties when numerous artists and actors discovered the place for themselves. The largest sandy beach along the entire coast, Baie de Pampelonne, and the marina made the place a meeting point for stars. Antibes also evolved from a fishing village to one of the largest yacht harbours of the deep blue Mediterranean, where super and mega yachts of millionaires and billionaires bob alongside simple sailing boats. Nice is the fifth-largest city in France and, after Marseille, the second-largest on the Riviera. It is a pleasure to stroll through the well-preserved old town around the charming harbour and through the countless alleys. Numerous villas, palaces and baroque churches alternate. The Museum of Fine Arts features works from the Impressionist, Rococo and Mannerist periods. A special museum is dedicated to the painter Henri Matisse. It is located in a 17th-century Genoese city residence. The painter spent a large part of his cultural life in Nice, which influenced him greatly. Only a few kilometres to the north is the small but fine principality of Monaco, where the old and new (money-)nobility resides. The world's most famous casino is located at Place du Casino, along with the no less famous Hôtel de Paris and the opera house from the late 1800s. Those who love the sea should not miss a visit to the Oceanographic Museum. Marine researcher Jacques-Yves Cousteau (the one with the bright red woolly hat) was one of the museum's directors. Between Nice and the principality is the picturesque Cap Ferrat. The peninsula covered with pine and palm trees is considered one of the best residential areas on the Riviera. Paloma Beach is ideal for swimming, and the park-like streets between magnificent villas and gardens are perfect for leisurely strolls. One of the most beautiful gardens on the entire coast can be found at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild Museum. Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild had the palazzo built at the beginning of the 1900s. The palace served as a backdrop for the James Bond film "Never Say Never Again" with Sean Connery, among other things. A few kilometres further in the direction of Italy is Menton. The pastel-coloured facades of the houses already convey an Italian flair. The enchanting sandy beach with its bays is a place for connoisseurs, as Menton is much quieter than many other places on the French Riviera. The same goes for the region around the small town of Fréjus. In 1913, aviation pioneer Roland Garros took off from here for his first flight across the Mediterranean. Finally, Cannes should not go unmentioned, as it hosts the annual International Film Festival. The red carpet sees everyone who has rank and name in the film world. Strolling along the palm tree-lined Promenade Boulevard de la Croisette is a wonderful way to take in the jet-set life, watch the unique southern ease and enjoy your time. In the hinterland of the French Riviera rise the Alpes Maritimes. The Maritime Alps rise to almost 3,300 metres above sea level. On a clear day, you can enjoy views across the expanse of the Mediterranean from there. In the Alpes Maritimes, you will find peace and quiet after exciting days on the lively coast. Long-distance hiking trails invite you to extensive tours. Long-distance hiking trails connect the Italian and French Maritime Alps via historic mule tracks. Bearded vultures and golden eagles circle above you. Crystal-clear mountain streams splash on the slopes. A large part of these Alps is protected. The Esterel is a mountain range in France, located between Cannes and Saint-Raphaël on the Côte d'Azur. It is a popular hiking area. The highest elevation is Mont Vinaigre at 614 metres and is definitely worth a trip.

Where can I eat out in Côte d'Azur?

Divine dining on the azure coast

The cuisine of the Côte d'Azur unites the best from the depths of the sea and the fields of Provence in the hinterland. Simple cuisine and haute cuisine, the kitchens of Italy and France, inland and maritime cuisine blend here. The basic ingredients are fish or meat, the best vegetables, virgin olive oil, garlic and, of course, fresh herbs – thyme and rosemary, basil, sage, bay leaf and wild fennel. The latter have made the cuisine of Provence and the Côte d'Azur famous worldwide. As well as masters of the culinary art like Alain Ducasse, who resides in the restaurant Le Louis XV at the Hôtel de Paris in Monaco and is celebrated both as a guardian of simple recipes and as a refiner. In rural areas, there are regular producer markets, the marchés paysans, where you can buy everything you need for your kitchen in your holiday accommodation or house on the Côte d'Azur near the beach. It doesn't get any fresher. Fish can be found on the fish markets on the coast, less often directly from the fisherman. The demand from the upmarket restaurants is too great, and the stocks of the Mediterranean are unfortunately shrinking more and more. For a classic bouillabaisse, which was invented in Marseille and requires at least dragon head, gurnard and conger eel, it is usually still sufficient. The best accompaniments for all the delicacies that come to the table in the restaurants of the Côte d'Azur are the local wines, which have fortunately made an unparalleled leap in quality over the last two decades. Bordeaux and Burgundy wine lists used to dominate, but now there are the wines. The AOC regions Hyères, Saint Tropez, Bormes-les-Mimosas, Ramatuelle and Collobrières conjure the taste of the south into the bottle. And if you can't decide between red and white wine: simply opt for rosé, as it accounts for a large part of the local wine production.

How do I come to Cote of Azur?

Travel to the azure coast

The Côte d'Azur is the destination of choice for many trips to southern France. The landscape along the Mediterranean coast between Cassis near Marseille and Menton on the Italian border promises a first-class holiday. You can reach your holiday apartment or house with air conditioning on the Côte d'Azur easily and quickly by plane from all major German airports. Depending on your destination, it makes sense to head for the airports in Marseille or Nice. Both airports have car rental companies for further travel to your accommodation on the Côte d'Azur. Cheaper rates than on-site can be obtained by booking in advance on the Internet. If you prefer to travel by train, you can take the TGV from Frankfurt directly to Marseille. On the coast, you can reach all major towns such as Cannes by trains of the SNCF. With your own car, you can drive from Germany for a whole day. To make the journey more relaxed, it is worth making a stopover, for example in Lyon.
