Vacation under the thatched roof

A wonderful holiday home with a charming thatched roof and a loving, stylish decor. Everything was very clean and well-maintained, so you could feel comfortable from the very first moment. Particularly noteworthy is the fenced garden, which is ideal for dogs. The surroundings are simply dreamy and invite you to relax and explore.

Which sights are there in Burg on Fehmarn?

From your vacation apartment in the town of Burg, you can quickly reach all interesting places on Fehmarn

In 1926, the sailing ship Niobe of the Reichsmarine capsized off Fehmarn. A monument was erected on the beach of Gammendorf to commemorate this day. A yardarm, brought from the wreck, adorns the Niobe monument. Also worth visiting, not just for children: the Galileo Knowledge World, which encompasses three museums - Experimenta and Planet Earth in Burg and the Museum Overseas in Burgstaaken. All three use interactive displays to explain cultural, technical, and scientific contexts. A visit to the Fehmarn Marine Center as well as the local history museum next to St. Nikolai Church in beautiful Burg on Fehmarn is also worthwhile. A submarine is fascinating for both adults and children alike. At the U-Boat Museum Fehmarn, visitors can experience life in the cramped space of U11. Children find the U-Boat Museum particularly exciting. The Glambeck Castle ruins take you on a journey through Fehmarn's history. The moat, rampart, and the foundation of the brick building from the 13th century are preserved. This attraction is located on the peninsula south of Burg, at Burgtiefe. More than just an attraction, the over 900 m long Fehmarnsund Bridge is the landmark of the island of Fehmarn.

What do you need to experience in Burg on Fehmarn?

Experience nature and extensive sandy beaches on Fehmarn

The "Grüner Brink" nature reserve is home to numerous water birds. West of Puttgarden, you can explore the small biotope on a guided tour. The island of Fehmarn is known for its biodiversity. Here, you can find more than 170 bird species and very rare plants. A nature trail leads through the NABU Water Bird Reserve Wallnau. Birds such as avocets, snipes, oystercatchers, or lapwings can be observed up close here. Staff from the water bird reserve lead tours through the area. From your accommodation, whether an apartment or house, you can easily reach the beautiful beaches of the island. The island impresses with 78 km of coastline and 20 natural beaches, sandy beaches, and cliffs. Thus, Fehmarn offers the perfect seaside experience for everyone. Those who enjoy spending long afternoons sunbathing on the beach should book their vacation apartment in the south or west of Fehmarn. On the north coast between Markelsdorfer Huk and Puttgarden, there is a charming dune landscape with spits and beach lakes. The east coast of the island is more rocky and has a cliff coast. The south beaches at Burgtiefe are particularly popular with families with children. Here, children can splash in the shallow water on the gently sloping, white sandy beach. From Burg on Fehmarn, you can also reach the Danish capital Copenhagen on the island of Zealand in just under three hours, and Malmö in Sweden is also a suitable excursion destination.

What can you experience in Burg on Fehmarn with children?

Fun with the family in the vacation apartment on the beach of Fehmarn

The family-friendly, quiet, and cozy town is a place of short distances, making it a perfect location for your family vacation in Burg on Fehmarn. From your comfortably equipped holiday home or cozy apartment, you can reach many beautiful excursion destinations in less than 30 minutes on foot or by bike. Do not miss attractions such as the Burgstaaken harbor on the South Beach, the Burger Binnensee, and the Fehmarn Butterfly Park. An experience with a maritime flair, which should not be missed on any Fehmarn excursion, is a visit to the Flügge Lighthouse with its beautiful view.

Where can I eat out in Burg on Fehmarn?

On Fehmarn, it's (almost) all about fish

In Burg on Fehmarn, you're right at the source for fresh fish and shrimp. Besides seafood specialties, Fehmarn is also known for pike-perch, pike, and perch from the lagoon and bay waters. The cuisine on the Baltic Sea coast is very fish-oriented, with plaice, cod, and herring being particularly popular. At the cozy village inn in Petersdorf, you can enjoy delicious fish with fried potatoes or beef roulades with red cabbage. At Kolle’s Fish Pan & Captain's Lounge in Lemkenhafen, fish lovers are in for a treat. The preparation of seafood and fish specialties can be experienced up close in the open kitchen. A very special place is "Dat ole Aalhus". This house is actually a thatched half-timbered barn with a terrace and serves sophisticated fish dishes. Why not prepare the freshly caught shrimp and fish specialties yourself in your affordable holiday home or apartment?

What is a must-see in Burg on Fehmarn?

Immerse yourself in the eventful and exciting history of Burg

St. Nikolai Church is a very special attraction. Amidst the historic old town of Burg, the medieval church stands tall, inviting visitors inside. Here, numerous treasures can be seen, such as a mysterious, bronze baptismal font. The interactive open-air museum Katharinenhof is located in the eponymous village in the east of the island of Fehmarn. Do not miss the traditionally baked stone oven bread here. In Lemkenhafen, an old sail windmill houses the thematically appropriate Mill and Agricultural Museum of Fehmarn. The mill from 1787 provides a good impression of the once rural life on Fehmarn. There are five noteworthy lighthouses on the island of Fehmarn. A visit to these lighthouses can be wonderfully combined with an extensive bike tour. For fans of expressionist art, the E.L. Kirchner Documentation in Burg is a must.
