Travel guide Cala Pi
Arrival to the holiday home in Cala Pi
The village of Cala Pi is located on the south coast of the holiday island Mallorca, not far from the capital Palma de Mallorca and 18 km south of Llucmajor. For your arrival to the holiday home with terrace and pool or the private villa or finca directly on the sandy beach, it is best to fly from Germany or drive comfortably by car and take the ferry from mainland Mallorca. The airport is in Palma, which is the third-largest airport in Spain and offers affordable connections to all major cities in Europe. On the island, there are also other small airfields that can be served by private aircraft. If you want to reach your accommodation with a garden by your own car, drive on the mainland via highways or expressways to Barcelona or Valencia. From there, the car ferries of the island start and take you to the ports in Palma or Alcudia. If you need a rental car, it is best to reserve it before you start your journey, especially if you want to drive during the main season.
The climate on the Balearic Island
For your holiday time in a private villa or modern holiday home with a kitchen and pool, you can expect wonderful weather. The climate on
Mallorca is characterized as moderate and Mediterranean. It has mild winters and hot summers with lots of sunshine and little rain. From May onwards, the water in the Mediterranean is warm enough for swimming. This season lasts until September and can, with some luck, last until mid-October. Between the end of October and December, there is a small rainy season on Mallorca. It gets cool, and you can no longer swim. Nevertheless, it is still much warmer than in Germany during this time. Winter temperatures range between 6 °C and 18 °C. In high summer, temperatures between 20 °C and 31 °C are common. However, with the corresponding weather situation, it can get much hotter. The water temperature is around 15 °C in winter, and in summer, you will enjoy water temperatures between 20 °C and 27 °C. Be sure to pack sunscreen, bathing gear, and light clothing for your
beach holiday in Cala Pi.
Sights around your holiday apartment
From your holiday home in Cala Pi, you can start a beautiful discovery tour to the most popular sights of Llucmajor. The idyllic bathing bay is not far from the house. Here you will find a beautiful white beach with fine sand. At the southeastern entrance of the bay is the Torre de Cala Pi, a watchtower from the 17th century. It was built to protect Cala Pi from attacks by North African corsairs. In the nearby town of
Llucmajor, you can visit the town hall and the church of San Miguel. Southeast of the market square is a monument to the shoemakers. An attraction is the large market held in the town every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday. Goods of all kinds, food such as fruit and vegetables, fish, meat and dairy products are offered here. Even if you don't want to cater for yourself in your holiday home, a stroll around the market is worthwhile to watch the colourful hustle and bustle. Another attraction is the Botanicactus, a botanical garden for cacti near
Ses Salines. The nature and landscape of the island are also ideal for hiking and active holidaymakers. Alternatively, you can also take a boat trip to Cabrera.
Experience art and culture
Whether you have booked a finca with a terrace and swimming pool on the sandy beach or a
holiday apartment with air conditioning and sea view on Mallorca, art and culture are never far away. From your accommodation, head to the promenades to listen to street artists playing music or watch them paint and draw. In the galleries of the Balearic Islands, you will find wonderful contemporary art, often dealing with the theme of the sea and people. In the winter months, the Palma opera offers a well-filled schedule. In summer, the beautiful weather is used for outdoor concerts. There are numerous festivals for classical music, theatre, jazz, ballet and modern performances. Public foundations such as Pilar and Joan Miró, la Caixa, Sa Nostra and March support numerous artists in their work. Es Baluard is a museum for contemporary art in Palma. In the winemaker's house of La Granja, you can gain an insight into Mallorcan life and learn about wine cultivation on the island.
Spanish food and drink
The region offers a wide range of great local restaurants and small snack bars. There are several taverns and fish restaurants at Punta de Cala Pi. If you like variety and want to be on the move a lot, you can dine in a different place every day. Maybe you will take a trip to
Campos to treat yourself to a little break from bathing in the historic old town between quaint stone walls. Mallorcan specialities include many fish dishes and "Coca de verdura". This dish is referred to as pizza, but is in fact a cold vegetable pie. A dough of water, flour and olive oil serves as the base. The pastry is made entirely without cheese, meat or fish. Try the delicious rice pots, prepared according to house recipes with offal, fish, seafood or snails. Aromatic wine from the Spanish mainland goes well with it. Enjoy this in your accommodation with terrace, private kitchen and sea view or view of the steep coast.
Relaxed holiday with loved ones in Cala Pi
A holiday home in Cala Pi by the sea, overlooking the beautiful bay - this is how you can spend your holiday with your family in a completely relaxed way. Spain is very family-friendly and offers children plenty of activity options. If the villa is close to the water, you hardly need anything else in summer. For hours, the little ones can occupy themselves with sand, mud and stones. Maybe interesting creatures like fish, shells or crabs are discovered in the crystal-clear water. They can be observed in the lagoon in peace and quiet. Particularly beautiful beaches can also be found in the nearby
Sa Rapita. If you've had enough of the beach, you can take trips to the numerous amusement parks and attractions. For example, there is an adventure and leisure park in Magaluf, a safari zoo in San Coma and a large aquarium in Palma. Take beautiful boat tours with your children. Rent pedal boats or inflatable boats to get active yourself. Look for a finca that is only a few minutes' walk from the bathing bay or the sandy beach. Also, visit excursion destinations within a short distance, such as the talayotic settlement of Capocorb Vell, an archaeological excavation site of a settlement attributed to the Late Bronze Age Talaiot culture.
Highlights for your holiday on the island
Use your villa or finca by the sea as a base for exploration tours to the most beautiful beaches of the Balearic Islands. Whether steep coast, sandy beach or rocks - each of these places exudes its own charm. You can reach the locations on land or take a boat to the most beautiful spots. You can book charter boats at the Cala Pi jetty, or you can go a little further to switch to larger ships. A special experience is a tour with a sailboat or catamaran. Driven only by the wind, these ships glide majestically and silently over the waves. Once you have felt this uplifting feeling, be careful: you could become addicted to it. On your way, you should make a detour to Es Trenc. The salt pans there offer an incomparable sight. Here, the precious sea salt is still extracted as in ancient times with the help of the sun. It piles up into huge white mountains that sparkle in the light. Now rent one of the countless properties or a finca with air conditioning and parking in one of the most beautiful regions of Mallorca.
