Homebody - Dream location in Zell
Zell (Mosel)
We have now spent our Mosel vacation in the holiday apartment Stubenhocker in Zell for the third time.
The highlight of the holiday apartment is the terrace. One has an unobstructed view of the Mosel here. The only disadvantage is that "you have to wave to the guests of the passing ships."
The holiday apartment is very clean, modern, and cozy furnished and equipped with everything you need. You can park directly in front of the apartment, but this is now subject to a fee. We can only recommend this vacation apartment and will definitely book it again.

Fewo Merten
Zell (Mosel)
We felt at home immediately with Fam Merten in their tasteful apartment; everything has been thought of, we missed nothing. Neatly clean, there was even a robot vacuum cleaner present. If you needed clean towels, you could ring the owners and it was arranged. They also know a lot about the walks in the immediate area. We had a great time!

The area along the Moselle and the Saar is known nationwide, if not worldwide, for its excellent wines. This form of agriculture has been cultivated here for millennia and remains highly relevant today. Visiting a winery and sampling the regional wines is possible at many vineyards and is a vacation highlight for both nose and palate. For the eyes, a hike along the Moselsteig is already a feast. Over steeply sloping vineyards, you can gaze along the course of the Moselle, overlooking small villages or the historic buildings of Trier. Not only vineyards are covered on this hiking route, but also countless historic castles are found in this region. A house with a garden or sauna in Konz or Losheim, privately owned in a prime location in the Mosel - Saar area, for example on the Upper Moselle, is the ideal starting point for a hiking vacation in Rhineland-Palatinate. The view of the Moselle Loop from Bremmer Calmont, one of the most iconic views of a natural landscape in Germany, should not be missed.
The most culturally and historically significant city on the Moselle is Trier. The city has a history spanning over two thousand years since it was founded by the Romans. It quickly gained importance, as evidenced by the numerous historically impressive buildings that have survived to this day. The Porta Nigra is the best-preserved Roman city gate in Germany. Built in 170 AD, the gate is not only a landmark of Trier but also a UNESCO World Heritage site. From the Roman era, the amphitheater, three baths, the Basilica of Constantine, and the Roman Bridge are also preserved. Trier Cathedral, St. Peter, is the oldest cathedral in Germany and, along with numerous other sacred and secular buildings, attests to Trier's continued significance after the Roman era through the Middle Ages and modern times.
To ensure that the hiking vacation on the Moselle does not become monotonous, there is plenty of entertaining fun for children of different ages. In Traben-Trarbach, mystical creatures have their home and can be searched for on the Elf Trail. The five-kilometer circular route is lined with well-hidden dwellings of forest elves and the Oberon Seat. If the little ones want not only their parents as companions on a hike but also a furry, four-legged companion, they should visit the Abayomi Farm in Lieser. From there, hikes with shaggy alpacas start. The climbing trail at Calmont is more physically challenging. However, the nearly alpine effort is rewarded with an unparalleled view of the Moselle Loop. The climbing trail is conquerable for children from 10 years old.
When a Roman feast is not taking place, the typical cuisine of the Mosel - Saar region can be enjoyed. Here, the regional riches from the rivers Moselle, Saar, and Ruwer meet the fruits of the slopes. Ample sunshine and rain not only allow the wine to thrive excellently. The vineyard peaches testify to the climatically special conditions in the Mosel - Saar region as well as to the Roman tradition of the region. The ancient Romans once brought the peach to the Moselle. The stone fruits are enjoyed as a sweet dessert or in liquid form as a liqueur. The meal before can then be something heartier. Pork knuckle with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut, Kombierewurscht, or marc meat are hearty local dishes that fill up any winemaker after a long day at the vineyard. Potatoes combined with fish or the Moselle eel are the lighter alternatives. A glass of fine white wine from the Moselle slopes completes the perfect Mosellan dinner. Take a walk along the Ruwer and the Moselle for digestion. Enjoy the beautiful landscape with forests and the unique view of the Moselle!
Over 2000 years ago, the Romans founded the city of Trier in their effort to defend the outer borders of their empire against "barbarians". In the process, the entire Moselle Valley was cultivated by Roman settlers. Viticulture was introduced to the valley, and roads were built for goods transportation. Today, many of the Roman structures are preserved and restored, or the remnants of them provide insights into ancient Roman life along the Moselle. The Villa Borg offers a glimpse into the life of wealthy Romans in the third century AD. A manor house, a Roman bath, and the garden were elaborately and detailedly renovated. In August each year, a Roman festival, modeled after the luxury of that time, takes place at the villa in Perl-Borg. The cradle of Roman viticulture in the Mosel - Saar holiday region is the area around Bernkastel - Kues. In Piesport, the largest Roman wine press is located. In October, when the Roman Wine Festival is celebrated, the facility can be admired in operation.
From the borders of Luxembourg, through Trier to Koblenz, the beautiful Moselle Valley stretches in the tri-border area of France, Luxembourg, and Germany along with its tributaries Saar and Ruwer.
