Very, very recommendable!

The house, the location, the amenities… everything really good!
A small question and prompt answer. No call center, no AI… a real person. Rare these days.
The location by the canal with a view of the IJsselmeer, dreamy.
Very, very recommended!

Very nice vacation at the Ijsselmeer. Highly recommended.

We were in the holiday home during the summer vacation. Everything was wonderful. The house very clean and very well equipped. Nothing was missing.
The beach is a few minutes' walk away. Playground, mini-golf, table tennis, boat rental, and bicycle rental directly across from the house. The house has its own pier, which invites fishing. From the private pier, you can also access the many canals where you can go boating, stand-up paddling, etc. The beach and the shallow water are particularly suitable for children and water sports enthusiasts. The surf school and a beach soccer field are also available. A petting zoo is also easily reachable with a short walk. The beach promenade is beautiful and invites you to watch the sunset or enjoy the cozy restaurants and bars. All in all, it was a super nice vacation. Many thanks to the Kunert family.

Which sights are there in Makkum?

Dike and Island, Coast and Water: The True Attractions of Makkum

If your holiday home is not directly in Makkum on the IJsselmeer, but somewhere between Lemmer and Hoorn, you have a tough choice regarding your excursion destination. Hoorn is located directly on the IJsselmeer and experienced its heyday in the 17th century. Admire the historic buildings, hike through the dunes, or visit a historic ship. Wherever you start your tour: the Frisian cities will enchant you in no time. Amsterdam is just about 1.5 hours away by car. Walk through the canals, for which this city is famous. Your accommodation may not seem nearly as historic, but you have fresh water daily in the holiday home in Medemblik. Look forward to a holiday apartment with Frisian furnishings to experience the magic of the province of Friesland. Another tip is Haarlem. Take the opportunity, as from your accommodation in Makkum, you can reach former and current attractions that will give you an unforgettable holiday. The island of Marken impresses with small wooden houses that are situated on artificially created hills, the werven. To explore the island with a circumference of nine kilometers, it is best to walk over the dike. Just 30 minutes by car from Amsterdam, after your visit to the charming island, you can make a day trip to Amsterdam or a detour to Medemblik.

What do you need to experience in Makkum?

Charming and Unique

The Gateway to the Zuiderzee: Makkum was already well-known in the Middle Ages. The former fishing village owed its heyday to the lime burning industry. Today, Makkum presents itself as a charming small town near the coast of Friesland. The IJsselmeer, the largest lake in the country, was created by the construction of dikes. With a remarkable length of 53 kilometers and an area of 1100 square kilometers, a large part of the IJsselmeer consists of the former sea bay Zuiderzee. Especially the many small villages make Holland an exciting holiday destination. In Marken, you will encounter a traditional fishing village, while Hoorn impresses with its dunes and Edam with the famous cheese of the same name. The variety of activities and landscapes promises a unique stay in Makkum on the IJsselmeer. Simply rent a chic renovated holiday accommodation, a Schackelvilla, or a house with its own dock, sauna, terrace, and at an affordable price, and enjoy a relaxing journey full of comfort and entirely according to your personal wishes in Makkum.

What can you experience in Makkum with children?

Ship Ahoy!

The Netherlands is a paradise for children or your pet for a relaxing holiday. Activities in, on, or near the water shape the life of the Dutch, whether in the village or the city. Near your comfortably furnished holiday apartment in the province of Flevoland, you will find plenty of variety for various activities. Visit the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen or make the Onverwacht unsafe. The former cargo sailer, a Klipperaak built in 1908, still glides elegantly over the water today. Look forward to a family-friendly holiday, where water plays an important role. The harbor still shapes the everyday life of the Frisian residents. Chat a few words of Dutch to be able to buy your breakfast for the holiday home and let yourself be inspired by the history of the Netherlands. Zaanse Schans is an open-air museum where your child can vividly learn how life once took place on the dike. The modern comfort of your accommodation on the IJsselmeer is unbeatable. In your holiday apartment in Lemmer or a holiday home in Medemblik with extensive facilities, an exciting holiday in Friesland awaits you.

Where can I eat out in Makkum?

Sweet or Savory?

Potatoes, meat, and vegetables, as well as regional specialties and international cuisine, have long been established here. If you want to serve breakfast in style in your holiday apartment in Lemmer, do not miss chocolate sprinkles or anise sprinkles, Muisjes. The delicious syrup waffles with coffee or a delicate sausage and cheese platter make a successful conclusion to the breakfast "Made in the Netherlands." In Holland, lunch is rather sparse. Mini pancakes, herring, or Bitterballen, balls of beef ragout that are fried, will surely taste good to you too. For dinner, things get heartier in the restaurant or the kitchen of your holiday home in Enkhuizen. Stamppot, a dish of mashed potatoes and smoked sausage, or a pea soup are the predecessors, sweet desserts like milk pudding and licorice tempt you in the evening.

What is a must-see in Makkum?

Old Masters and New Impressions

Be surprised, as the history of Friesland and Makkum is very noteworthy in art and culture. If you have visited the small island of Marken, remember the pile construction with which the wooden houses on the hills are built. In the Marker Museum, you can then admire traditional costumes or take a peek into the clog workshop, a classic of the Netherlands. Manufactories with faience pottery made this region famous. Learn more at the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen. Former influences of art and culture are particularly found in Enkhuizen. In the area, you will surely find a nice holiday home that you can rent privately at a reasonable price, or you can relax on the beach. Check whether it is allowed to bring your pet to the holiday apartment in Lemmer or to the beach. In Hoorn, the former Dutch East India Company was located. The Hooftoren is worth seeing, or you can pass the time in the Westfries Museum with paintings by famous Dutch masters.
