The Gartenidyll holiday home is located in Altenkirchen, a municipality of about 1,000 inhabitants on the Wittow peninsula. The location is particularly appreciated by guests who are looking for peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle around the holiday strongholds in the southeast of the island. Nevertheless, the Wittow peninsula itself offers many opportunities for leisure activities. Altenkirchen, for example, is ideally suited for cycling or hiking tours in the surrounding area due to its central location. The Hochuferweg leads you directly to the old fishing village of Vitt (8 km) and to Cape Arkona (9 km). The lavishly renovated harbour of Wiek, with its beautiful view of the island of Hiddensee, is only 5 kilometres away.
Altenkirchen is also a perfect starting point for beach lovers. An 11-kilometre-long sandy beach, the Schaabe, is only a few minutes away by bike or car. But also along the steep east and north coast of the peninsula you will find many beaches with fine sand, interrupted by sections strewn with boulders. A legacy of the ice age. Excursions to the island of Hiddensee start from Breege harbour (2 km). From here you can also reach the Störtebeker Festival in Ralswiek by water in the evenings. Other attractions such as the chalk cliffs with the Königsstuhl (25 km) or the harbour town of Sassnitz (28 km) can be reached by car.
Due to Altenkirchen's central location, you also benefit from a good infrastructure. Only 100 metres away is a shopping centre with a discounter, drinks market, department stores', ATM, bakery, butcher's shop and snack bar. There is also a petrol station, doctors and a pharmacy in the village.
