Spend a luxury holiday while reducing your carbon footprint is now possible!
Wanakaset’s Mas d'Amont property, is a 5-star accommodation (by the French Ministry of Tourism) and is the headquarters of the Wanakaset Pyrénées Orientales non-profit organisation whose ultimate objective is Biodiversity conservation and restoration.
The 300-year-old off-grid Mas d'Amont, nested in the Albères hills of the Pyrenees Orientales, dominates the Mediterranean Vermeille Coast and is located in the middle of 65 hectares private forest estate. The view is breathtaking and for the early risers, the sunrises on the Mediterranean Sea are a work of art every morning.

You will be staying on the ground floor of the 800 m2 recently restored Catalonian Mas. An independent 250 m2 private living quarters was recently renovated to welcome you, your friends and your family. The wooden furniture has been made by local craftsmen, the bedding is excellent, and all the equipment is of superior quality.

- The property Central heating is produced by a wood-fired boiler/cooker and air conditioning is produced by two Coolflow 5000 bio air conditioners.

The living quarters was designed to comfortably accommodate a maximum of 18 people:

7 bedrooms as follows:
- Four rooms with a Queen size bed each (160 x 200 cm)
- One room with a King size bed and ensuite shower room ( 200 x 200 cm)
- One room with 4 single bunk beds (90 x 200 cm)
- One room with a queen size bed a 2 single bunk beds (160 x 200 cm - 90 x 200 cm)
Each room has shelves and a desk. All rooms have forest view and four of them has sea view.
There is a total 4 bathrooms and 3 water closets and Miele laundry washing machine (spin 1600 rpm, almost dry laundry!).

- Fully furnished large kitchen equipped with quality electrical appliances (Jura coffee machine, Angel juice extractor, Magimix Blender, etc.),
Miele dishwasher, a large double door 600 l fridge and freezer, Miele microwave/classic oven, a wood oven to simmer pots in winter, One large table that can accommodate 12 people.

- Dining room, wide open to the kitchen with a large table for 12 people as well. In this room, it is possible to join the two tables to sit 20 people easily.

- Living room with sofas, armchairs, flat screen smart TV, Bose soundbar, and many books for young and old.

- Private terrace of about 100 m2 with garden furniture. Sea view, swimming pool, and forest. An Artflame barbecue is at your disposal (under certain conditions in summer).

- 50 m2 swimming pool, with a view of the sea.

- As grey water is treated via a phytosanitary system, it is imperative to use only biodegradable cleaning and toilet products. We will provide them to you free of charge upon your arrival.

- As the estate is not connected to the telecom network, we will provide you with a mobile phone with 5GB of data that you can recharge if necessary, at your own expense.

Location and surroundings of object

We plant a very large variety of fruit trees in order to generate a unique biodiversity. By staying with us, you contribute financially to the creation of this extraordinary ecosystem. Those guests who wish to partake in the daily chores of the Conservation project can also join us. Activities range from planting trees, clearing, watering, maintaining the organic vegetable garden, and learning a little more about the trees.

Those willing to offset the full carbon footprint of their holidays must plant trees or ask Wanakaset team to do so.

The property is not connected to any amenities or public services! The closest neighbour is 45 minutes away by foot. Electricity comes from solar PV, fresh water from a well, and grey water is recycled through a phytosanitary system, which allows this water to be used for irrigation of young trees. You can harvest your vegetables from the organic vegetable garden and cook them right away. Our trees are still young but some of them already bear fruits waiting to be picked. Our hens produce about 5 eggs a day and fetching 100% organic eggs every day is a bliss. We also have five beehives.

The nearest beach is 20 minutes driving away (for the most courageous, 45 minutes by walking).

We are 15 minutes by car from Argelès-sur-Mer, the last 3 kilometres to the farmhouse are via an unpaved dirt track and high chassis vehicles are essential. Perpignan is 30 minutes away, Collioure 25 minutes. Spending a day in

Cancellation terms:

Strict during high season, Christmas and Easter season: you will be refunded half of the booking amount minus the cancellation fee, if you cancel the booking at least 7 days before the planned check-in until 12 o’clock midday CET (Central European time). For cancellations which are made less than 7 days before check-in there will be no refund. Moderate during low season.

- Good windsurfing and kitesurfing spots are 20 to 40 minutes away (Canet, Saint Cyprien, ). We have high end windsurfing gear for highly experienced windsurfers (2 JP boards less than 90l and two Goya boards less then 80l).
- We have a passionate Latin Old Rig Sailor in the team who will be happy to introduce you to it if you are interested.
- Nearby: mountain biking, hiking, canyoning, canoeing, via ferrata, tree climbing, etc.

The Pic du Canigou, at a height of 2785 metres (a 4 wheeldrive is needed), dominates the region and is very popular with hikers. There are a multitude of hikes, some of which do not require exceptional physical fitness. Moreover, if you prefer horse riding in your place while you admire the scenery on its back, you should know that there are many ranches. One of them, the Ranch des Albères, is located at the bottom of the trail that leads to Wanakaset.
A hike to do: the Massane tower. Perched at 793 metres on one of the peaks of the Albères massif, once up there, you will have a magnificent panoramic view of the entire Roussillon plain.

Every year in July, the Château de Valmy (15 minutes from the Mas d'Amont, and visible from the terrace) organises the famous and international "Les Déferlantes" music festival. This year, it will take place from July 5 to 8.

Some local markets are unavoidable such as Céret (Saturday, 8 am to 1 pm), Figueres in Spain (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm) or Empuriabrava (Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm), by the sea (Costa Brava, Spain), about 1 hour by road from the Estate. In Figueres, there is also the famous Dali Museum and if you don't have enough about Dali, take a trip to Cadaques, a magnificent historic village, where architecture and culture are fascinating. The painter lived there for many years and the "Casa-Museo de Salvador Dali" is surprising. Nearby, enjoy the coves of Cap de Reus, the most beautiful of the Costa Brava, its waters are clear and refreshing.

Closer to Wanakaset (about 25 minutes driving), Paulilles Cove is a small jewel hidden between Cap Béar and Cap Oullestrell. Formerly an explosive manufacturing site of Lagardere, it was rehabilitated in 2008 and it is beautiful! As it is hidden, despite its notoriety, its magnificent beach remains peaceful and less frequented than the beaches of Argelès.
However, the beach of Le Racou, near the port of Argelès is also very nice and about 20 minutes from Wanakaset. A small street filled with small bars and restaurants tucked in. Our favorite table: "la table du Racou", book in advance because it is small!

The city of Collioure is a must and unlike the other seaside towns in the region, it remains alive and vibrant all year round, even in winter. Strolling through the small, colourful pedestrian streets and then sipping a cold beer in one of the many cafés facing the sea is a pure delight. Speaking of beer, the best in the region are the (local!) ones from the Cap d'Ona brewery (which has won many awards). The latter is located in the Argelès business park and, seen from the outside, the place does not look that attractive, but come in and you will be surprised: you will find a pretty garden with tables, games for children, friendly waiters and of course, excellent award winning beers. They even make homemade organic lemonades. The brewery often organizes concerts in the evening, especially during the summer months.

Still in Collioure, the bar-restaurant "Les Templiers" is a real institution. Inside, you can admire paintings by painters who have been there: Matisse, Derain, Picasso,

In Laroque des Albères, the café-restaurant "Le Café des Artistes", run by Irish people, is very nice, and just across the street, a tapas bar has just opened and it seems to already have fans. Still in Laroque des Albères, "Aux Saveurs du Monde" pizzas are the best within several kilometres, on the spot or to take away. Fresh products guaranteed.

For wine, "Chez Syl Vins", in Collioure, has a beautiful collection of exceptional wines from the region and the whole world.
