Simply great

Whether for families or couples, this accommodation is perfect. For us as nature lovers and hikers, it's a dream. Direct access to hiking trails, well-known attractions not far away. The house is already in the greenery with daily visits from various birds. Uncomplicated, very nice landlords wrap up the package. We would love to come back.

Family vacation

We had a nice and relaxing week in the holiday home with our three teenage grandchildren. There was plenty of space in the house. Everything was very clean. The kitchen was well equipped, all the necessary things were available. Our grandchildren would have liked to have a dishwasher. They said that would have saved them the discussions about who is next to wash or dry the dishes. They managed it nonetheless. A plus point on their part, the Wi-Fi.
Communication with the host was always straightforward.
The location of the holiday home was perfect, hiking trails starting from the holiday home complex, and just 300m away a small but very nice outdoor pool with beach volleyball and mini-golf facilities. The visiting mine Marienglashöhle, the Funpark Inselsberg, and the beautiful city of Gotha with the castle are reachable in a few minutes by car. We had a nice, enjoyable time and gladly recommend the holiday home.

Thank you for the lovely welcome basket. ?

Experienced many beautiful hikes ? ? and then enjoyed the rest of the day in a quiet location in the lovely holiday cottage.

We, as last time, put peanuts and bird food in the birdhouse and were rewarded daily again. This time with visits from the squirrel ?, 2 jays ? and other birds.

We are leaving very satisfied and well-rested, looking forward to the next time. ? LG Olaf & Ilona ? ? ?

Which sights are there in the Thuringian Forest?

The Origin of Tannhäuser

Those who rent an affordable holiday home or apartment from a private owner in the Thuringian Forest will hardly be able to bypass the Wartburg city of Eisenach with its attractions. For example, you can relive the impressive history of automobile tradition at the Automobile Museum. The legendary Wartburg is naturally one of the most popular destinations. This is where the legendary Minnesingers' contest took place, which inspired Richard Wagner to create his opera "Tannhäuser." If you want to immerse yourself in nature, you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the city in the Hainich National Park, close to the Rhön. The town of Oberhof is also rich in attractions and attracts many vacationers annually. Enjoy the quiet location, the clean air, and the beautiful nature. With the Rennsteig Garden, a botanical garden for mountain plants with around 4,000 species, the town has a unique attraction. Oberhof is also a hotspot for winter sports. Here, world championships, World Cups, and international and national highlights take place. You can also get active: We recommend a guest bobsleigh ride on the luge and bobsleigh track. But you can also try biathlon, bowling, tennis, squash, or climbing. Dive into the fun - right in the middle of the Thuringian Forest.

What do you need to experience in the Thuringian Forest?

The Rennsteig Fascinates Everyone

You've found a cozy and well-equipped apartment or holiday home in an idyllic location in the Thuringian Forest? Then it's time to get out into the landscape and explore the region beyond your accommodation! The Rennsteig is Thuringia's most beautiful hiking trail and one of the great highlights. The high-altitude trail runs along the ridge of the forest and the Thuringian Slate Mountains, and partly through the northern Franconian Forest. Important places along the Rennsteig include Bad Liebenstein, Blankenstein, Eisenach, Floh-Seligenthal, Masserberg, Oberhof, Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig, Steinbach-Hallenberg, Suhl, Tambach-Dietharz, or Zella-Mehlis. The highest elevation in the Thuringian Forest is the Großer Inselsberg (916 m above sea level). Here, you can enjoy a unique view - on clear days, all the way to the Wasserkuppe in the Rhön and to the Brocken in the Harz. Or are you into beautiful cross-country skiing trails? Then head to Oberhof and be impressed by the extensive network of ski trails. If you prefer downhill skiing, we recommend the family ski area Fallbachhang Oberhof. The slope has a length of 1,000 meters. Floodlighting and snowmaking systems are available. Another highlight is the Schönbrunn Dam with a 66-meter-high embankment dam and an 18-kilometer-long circular hiking trail. The area is partly part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Vesser Valley-Thuringian Forest.

What can you experience in the Thuringian Forest with children?

Impressing Both Big and Small in the Thuringian Forest

The location in nature is also ideal for four-legged friends. A vacation with a dog in the Thuringian Forest - with an apartment or holiday home - is perfect for spending the holidays together with your pet. Those who rent a large holiday home can pack up the whole family and have the best conditions for a dream vacation with a great accommodation. A popular destination for both adults and children is the "H2Oberhof" wellness bath. Here, you can swim with a view of the Schneekopf, your kids can zoom down the giant slide, or you can relax in the sauna area. Near the Rennsteig, a unique amusement park has developed in recent years. In the miniature park mini-a-thür, you can see Thuringia's most famous architectural monuments in a detailed scale of 1:25 on 18,000 square meters. Over 100 models portray the Free State in a lovingly small format. A highlight for the whole family! You can also delve into the realm of fairies and miners: in the Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes. Visit the Grottoneum, an interactive museum, and learn all about the formation stories of the impressive fairy grottoes. Let a guide take you deep into the mountain and marvel at the "most colorful show grotto in the world" (Guinness Book of Records). Here, you can also do something for your health: The mine air in the healing tunnel is extremely pure. So, you can specifically strengthen your immune system.

Where can I eat out in the Thuringian Forest?

Delicious Delights on Bratwurstweg

From Bad Blankenburg to Nahetal-Waldau or Bad Langensalza: Discover the culinary specialties during a vacation with an apartment or holiday home in the Thuringian Forest. The cozy locals swear by their beer, especially from the popular family breweries that produce Pilsner or Schwarzbier. A world-famous delicacy is the Thuringian bratwurst made from pork, veal, or beef. It is seasoned with pepper, salt, caraway, and garlic. Recommendation for bratwurst fans: Visit the German Bratwurst Museum on Bratwurstweg (!) in Amt Wachsenburg. Thuringian cuisine also includes many dishes from times when potatoes were the main staple. For example, the Green Dumplings, made only from raw potato mass, are well-known. There is also a museum dedicated to this specialty: the Thuringian Dumpling Museum has found a home in Heichelheim. In Schmölln, the restaurants focus on Grandma's dumpling kitchen. Here, in many establishments, dumplings are served in various forms, including dumpling burgers and schnitzels in dumpling dough coating.

What is a must-see in the Thuringian Forest?

From Luther to Bach and Wagner

Eisenach is one of the hottest destinations for vacationers who also do not want to miss out on cultural highlights. Learn about the impressive career of the great reformer Martin Luther at the Lutherhaus. The young Luther sang as a Latin student in the Georgenkirche and later preached here as well. The famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach was also baptized in this church. Learn more about the musical genius at the Bachhaus on Frauenplan. The Reuter-Wagner Museum, which was once the house of the Low German poet Fritz Reuter, is also impressive. Here you will find the second-largest Richard Wagner collection in Germany after Bayreuth. Also, visit Friedenstein Castle and be transported back to the 17th century. The castle stands majestically above the old town of Gotha. The stately home has been remodeled several times but has always remained an important center for Thuringia. Today, it houses furnishings from the Baroque to Historicism. In the ensemble, you can also visit the Thuringian State Archive, the Gotha Research Library, the Castle Museum, the Museum of Nature, and the Museum of Regional History. Rent an apartment or a holiday home in the Thuringian Forest and experience historic cities, the highest mountains, impressive castles, and palaces, each with a large garden.
