We spent 2 weeks with the Kieselbach family in their beautiful holiday home and enjoyed the time very much. The area invites many activities. It was especially nice that we could reach the swimming spot so quickly by bike. Mr. and Mrs. Kieselbach were always very nice and helpful. Thank you very much for that.

Which sights are there at Plauer See?

Beautiful Attractions Around Plauer See

Plauer See is part of the Mecklenburg Lake District, which originated from a young moraine landscape during the last Ice Age. The Mecklenburg Lake District includes the large lakes Müritz, Kölpinsee, Fleesensee, and Plauer See. Many smaller lakes are found in the region of Neustrelitz and Eberswalde and in the Fürstenberger Seenland. This collection of interconnected waters offers a wealth of impressions. Discover rare plants and aquatic life. Explore the lakes by boat and let dragonflies and swift roaches accompany you. Perhaps you'd like to try your luck with a tourist fishing license. To visit historical buildings in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, you don't have to travel far. In Göhren-Lebbin, you'll find Schloss Fleesensee and a well-developed holiday park. Plau am See, with its picturesque old town, offers many historical half-timbered houses, churches, and technical monuments that invite you to visit.

What do you need to experience at Plauer See?

Highlights for Your Mecklenburg Vacation

A vacation home with a lake view is worth the trip to Plau am See alone. Treat yourself to a romantic break from everyday life and enjoy the wonderful tranquility in the Mecklenburg Lake District. The tourist company in Plau organizes fishing tours, sailing trips, and cutter rides for its guests, making you feel like a real fisherman. The passenger ships operate over long distances, as almost all the lakes are connected by natural or artificial channels. If you want to view the landscape from the air, you can book a scenic flight with AERONORD. A more leisurely pace can be enjoyed with a hearty horse-drawn carriage ride. The carriage services shuttle between Plauer See and Müritz, showing you the beautiful spots that are inaccessible by car. At the Marlow Bird Park, you can get very close to penguins, parrots, and cassowaries. During feeding shows, the birds perform aerial stunts or shoot through the water at high speeds. If you wish, you can also stay overnight among the animals, sleeping in a stilt house or the Keahöhle.

What can you experience at Plauer See with children?

Relax with Your Family in a Lakeside Vacation Home

The spa town of Plau and the neighboring villages are ideal for a family vacation in a vacation home. Rent a vacation apartment with a view of the lake and in a quiet location if you want to make it cozy. From the accommodation in Plau, you are not far from many beautiful attractions suitable for visiting with children. Visit the Elephant Farm Platschow, where you have the unique opportunity to get close to the giant animals, pet them, and ride them. At the Heidenholz Holiday Park, tame animals in the petting zoo await visitors of all ages. The facility cares for ponies, donkeys, goats, alpacas, and many small animals. For daring activities, the climbing park in Plau offers a great opportunity. If the weather doesn't cooperate, you can pass the time with bowling or skittles. The Müritztherme in Röbel offers more than 3000 square meters of sauna and bathing facilities. An exclusive wellness experience awaits you at SPAworld Fleesensee. If you plan to spend your vacation with a dog at Plauer See, inquire beforehand whether pets are allowed in the accommodation. Many vacation homes are well-suited for this.

Where can I eat out at Plauer See?

Typical Mecklenburg Food and Drink

In a vacation home in Plau, you can enjoy cooking yourself and savor the fresh products from regional producers. At the farmers' markets and on the market, you can buy local fruits and vegetables, jams, honey, and delicious dairy products. The forests around Plau are home to wild boars and deer. From the hunts come fine game meat, ham, and sausage, which you can also purchase at the market or in farm shops. The lake's waters are rich in fish. Pike-perch, eel, and pike come from Müritz and the surrounding lakes. Visit the hospitable restaurants to be pampered in a relaxed and refined atmosphere. For a quick snack, consider visiting the smokehouses or stands with fish sandwiches to go. A specialty is the fine fish soup, which gains a wonderful flavor from pike. Other regional dishes include lentil soup with prunes or blood sausage with raisins.

What is a must-see at Plauer See?

Enjoy Art and Culture During Your Vacation

At the church square in Plau am See, there is a museum featuring works by the sculptor Professor Wandschneider. He lived and worked here between 1866 and 1942, creating significant sculptures during this time. His most famous works include the Fritz-Reuter Monument in Stavenhagen, the Penny Boy, and Coriolan. On the "Clay and Brick" holiday route, you follow the traces of ancient craftsmanship. The Clay Museum in Gnevsdorf imparts knowledge about clay, an essential material for vessels and buildings. In Retzow, the "Ülepüle," a thatched half-timbered house over 200 years old, houses a linen and felt manufactory. Visitors can watch, participate, or buy finished products in the small workshop. The technical monument "Ziegelei Benzin" was built at the beginning of the 20th century. Massive facilities like the steam engine-powered extrusion press and a Hoffmann kiln are still operated for demonstration purposes today.
