How is the weather in Faistenau?

Between lowlands and alpine regions

Faistenau is the highest municipality in the Flachgau region at 784 meters above sea level, located in the Salzkammergut. The climate is cool and temperate, with average temperatures below 0 °C in winter and 19 °C in summer. Due to the so-called north barrier effect, precipitation in the region is increased, falling as snow in winter – perfect for a skiing holiday in the Salzburg region. The nearby Alps often cause warm and dry föhn weather conditions. The best time for hiking is between May and September. How about a relaxing day in the sunshine at Lake Fuschl?

The culinary delights of the Salzburg region are characterized by hearty dishes. Today, creative chefs know how to reinterpret the original recipes in a contemporary way. Typical dishes include cheese dumplings and Kasnocken. Fish is also frequently found on menus, as the neighboring lakes and many rivers offer excellent trout and carp. Celebrating festivals under the 1000-year-old linden tree

The two landmarks of Faistenau are the parish church of St. James the Elder and the (so-called) Thousand-Year-Old Linden Tree. Whether the tree is actually a thousand years old is doubtful. What is certain is that it is several hundred years old. The trunk has a circumference of more than nine meters, and the crown reaches 20 meters into the sky. Since the 1970s, the performance of the Everyman play under the 1000-year-old linden tree takes place in Faistenau every three years in summer. The next season is 2022. Another highlight is the ascent from your vacation apartment in Faistenau to the Sausteigalm and Lärchenhütte mountain huts. From up there, you can enjoy a panoramic view of St. Gilgen am Wolfgangsee, Lake Wolfgang, Krotensee, and Mondsee.
