Faistenau is the highest municipality in the Flachgau region at 784 meters above sea level, located in the Salzkammergut. The climate is cool and temperate, with average temperatures below 0 °C in winter and 19 °C in summer. Due to the so-called north barrier effect, precipitation in the region is increased, falling as snow in winter – perfect for a skiing holiday in the Salzburg region. Celebrating festivals under the 1000-year-old linden tree

The two landmarks of Faistenau are the parish church of St. James the Elder and the (so-called) Thousand-Year-Old Linden Tree. Whether the tree is actually a thousand years old is doubtful. What is certain is that it is several hundred years old. The trunk has a circumference of more than nine meters, and the crown reaches 20 meters into the sky. Since the 1970s, the performance of the Everyman play under the 1000-year-old linden tree takes place in Faistenau every three years in summer. The next season is 2022. Another highlight is the ascent from your vacation apartment in Faistenau to the Sausteigalm and Lärchenhütte mountain huts.
