It was a nice break

The house and the outdoor facilities are optimal for families with children. However, we as retirees also felt very comfortable. The terrace, the tranquility, the location, but above all the tiled stove captivated us. The host was unobtrusive, friendly, and helpful in every way. We will come back.

What do you need to experience in Altmünster?

Tourist attractions around Lake Traunsee

From your holiday home in Altmünster, it's worth taking a tour of the idyllic town with its beautiful sights. Visit the parish church, whose origins date back to the 8th century. A visit to the vintage car museum "Rund ums Rad" is also interesting. Its exhibition showcases exhibits from more than 200 years of vehicle construction history, including curiosities such as a high-wheel bike simulator or a one-wheel motorcycle. You can even try on historical garments and sit on the vehicles for a memorable photo. Traunsee Castle in Altmünster is a French Renaissance-style ensemble that is now used as a boarding school. During cultural events such as readings, concerts, and theatre performances, you can visit part of the castle and enjoy culture at the same time. Another historically significant building is Ebenzweier Castle, although it may not have been fully restored after a fire in 2016. If you prefer spending time in nature and perhaps plan a vacation with your dog in Altmünster, you should note the many beautiful hiking trails around the town. In summer, a trip to Mondsee with its fantastic circular hiking trail is worthwhile. Nearby Neukirchen offers fishing at the Salmos pond, where you can catch rainbow trout and brook trout.

Where can I eat out in Altmünster?

Sample the culinary specialties of the Salzkammergut

The cuisine in the Salzkammergut is influenced by Austrian tradition and international dishes. Due to the many visitors and the central location in Europe, close to your holiday home in Altmünster, you will find restaurants offering regional and international dishes. Enjoy the typical Semmelknödel (bread dumplings) with goulash or roast. Hearty ham, cheese from alpine pastures, and fine vegetables from the rural areas around the town enrich the menus of the cozy taverns. Freshly caught fish from the lakes and rivers in the Salzkammergut has an excellent quality due to the clear water. Try the delicious desserts and fine cakes: An original Kaiserschmarrn will provide you with plenty of energy for your next hike. Coffee or tea with ingredients such as cream, cognac or eggnog are the perfect accompaniment. If you prefer to cook in your holiday apartment in Altmünster, you can buy groceries at convenient prices and good quality in the town and at the farmers' markets.
