In addition to the culinary highlights already mentioned, it is the combination of a millennia-old cultural landscape and the beaches of the Adriatic that make Dalmatia so lovable. The history of Zadar goes back far into pre-Roman times. The city grew with the Romans and became magnificent during the time of Venetian rule. The Venetian defense system of the 15th to 17th centuries has recently been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Stroll through the narrow streets of the old town, where tourism began in 1902 with the opening of the first hotel. The winged lion of St. Mark, the symbol of the Republic of Venice, can be seen everywhere. At the harbor, the sea organ created by artist Nikola Bašić is worth seeing, or rather hearing. The waves press the water into the organ pipes, creating an airflow. Along the coast on the mainland, on the many islands and peninsulas, numerous beaches invite you to sunbathe and swim. In the off-season, you have many beaches and hiking trails all to yourself – ideal for a holiday with your dog in Dalmatia. Many landlords have pets themselves and warmly welcome your four-legged family members.

Where can I eat out in Sabunike?

Simple and delicious – Dalmatian cuisine

Often, the owner of the house is also the fisherman, and the catch of the day is served. Prices are usually given as kilo prices. If you prefer meat, you won't be disappointed: lamb, beef, and sausage specialties are grilled over an open charcoal fire in Dalmatia. Vegetarians usually have to search a bit in Dalmatia to find variety beyond salads. Our tip: Risotto or pasta with truffles from Istria. The Croatian wine goes excellently with all these delicacies. The simple red country wines go well with the plain grilled cuisine. For fish, pasta, and risotto, we recommend a white Malvasia from the region.

The small village of Sabunike is located about 20 kilometers north of the city of Zadar in Northern Dalmatia. You can reach your affordable holiday apartment or holiday home in Sabunike easily and quickly by plane. Zadar Airport is served directly by many German airports during the season. The flight time is about two hours. Car rental agencies are available at the airport. Pre-booking the car will save you money and time upon arrival. By car, you can reach your accommodation in Sabunike from Munich in about nine hours. The route takes you through Austria (toll required) and Slovenia. The alternative route offers a stopover in Trieste (Italy) and takes you along the idyllic coastal road from Rijeka to Zadar, passing the island of Pag.
