What do you need to experience in Pescia?
Palaces and churches, flowers and paper
Pescia initially gained regional fame with the production of paper and the cultivation of flowers. Learn all about the history of papermaking at the Paper Museum Museo dellas Carta. The Pescia River divides the town into two parts. On the left side is Piazza Mazzini with the market and small shops. On the right side of the river is the 17th-century cathedral and other churches and monasteries. The old palaces, such as the Palazzo del Podestà, which houses the Gipsoteca Libero Andreotti plaster figure cabinet, are worth seeing. The Palazzo del Vicario is now the seat of the municipal administration. Relax in the Baroque garden of Villa Garzoni in Collodi with hidden grottos, sculptures, and water features. The already mentioned flower market impresses with its curved, self-supporting roof from the 1950s.

Where can I eat out in Pescia?
Down-to-earth and incredibly delicious – Tuscan cuisine
Tuscany is known for its Renaissance landscape and culture, its excellent wine, and its cuisine. The traditional recipes are – surprisingly – down-to-earth and simple. They thrive on the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Vegetables grow almost all year round, the native olive oil is of top quality, the meadows provide the best meat, and the forests offer truffles, porcini mushrooms, and game. Fresh seafood and fish are added to the mix along the Mediterranean coast around Livorno. The unsalted peasant bread is present everywhere in Tuscany. The tradition dates back to a protest against Pope Paul II, who triggered the so-called Salt War (guerra del sale) in 1531 with a salt tax. The unsalted bread is used, for example, in bread salad (panzanella). Meat lovers will be delighted with bistecca alla fiorentina or veal goulash braised in red wine. Another delicacy from the peasant kitchen is veal tripe with tomato sauce (trippa alla fiorentina). The perfect accompaniment to all these delicacies is Tuscan wine. The house wines in the restaurants and bars are almost without exception usable. If you want something more upscale, dig deeper into your pocket and opt for Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, or a Supertoscan from Maremma.
