The history of Baška dates back to Roman times. Around 1100, a tablet was created in Baška, which is considered the baptismal certificate of the Croats. A copy can be seen in the town. The magnificent, three-nave parish church Hl. Dreifaltigkeit (Sveti Trojice) in the Baroque style dates back to 1722. Inside, a depiction of the Last Supper and the altarpiece of the Mother of God are worth seeing. Attached to the church, a small local history museum provides information about the cultural history of Baška. The main town of the island, Krk Town, with its landmark, the 5th-century Cathedral with its distinctive onion-shaped bell tower, is an absolute must-see. The church's construction features stylistic elements from several centuries, from Romanesque to Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. Another detour takes you to the old town of Vrbnik, where you can squeeze through the supposedly narrowest alley in the world.
Arriving at your holiday home in Baška is already an experience. Coming from the mainland, you go up to the mountains in the southeast of Krk and then down into a valley basin, where Baška unites the island with the sea - a breathtaking sight. Baška has one of the longest and most beautiful beaches in the region. The Vela plaža beach is almost two kilometers long and characterized by pebble and sandy sections. For a holiday with a dog in Baška, a separate area is set up for four-legged family members. In total, Krk offers almost 100 bathing bays and beaches that you can easily reach by car from your holiday apartment in Baška. The big family highlight in Baška takes place every year at the beginning of May. Then "the black sheep" is celebrated - with sailing competitions, bicycle races, family hikes, an extensive cultural program, and lectures on nature and the sea. On the second Sunday in August, the Fishermen's Festival Ribarski dan is celebrated, culminating in a traditional competition of pulling fishing nets over the beach.
It doesn't always have to be Ćevapčići. Of course, you can find the seasoned minced meat rolls all over Croatia. However, things get more exciting in the regional kitchens of the country. The island of Krk is located in the Kvarner Bay between Istria and Dalmatia, combining two culinary highlights. Both culinary traditions have been influenced by the Venetians and Italians. Try black squid ink risotto or tagliatelle with truffles, octopus salad, or small stuffed squid. Dalmatian dishes come from the grill and the oven. The neighboring island of Pag is famous for its sheep's cheese. The local sheep feed on salty, fragrant wild herbs, giving the cheese its unique taste. A white Malvasia Istriana or a red Plavac Mali Crni or Mali Plavac, which translates to "Little Blue," an old, indigenous red wine variety of the Croatian islands, goes well with it.
Baška is located in the southeast of the Croatian island of Krk in the Kvarner Bay. The town is the second largest on the island after the capital, Krk. You can easily reach your private holiday apartment in Baška by plane or car. In the north of the island is the international Rijeka-Riviera Kvarner Airport with excellent flight connections to all of Europe. The journey by car to your holiday home in Baška takes you through Istria and south of Rijeka over the Krk Bridge to the island. The journey takes about eight hours from Munich.
