Benicarlo - the small fishing town next to the tourist stronghold of Peñíscola
Vacation is the most important time of the year, leave nothing to chance.
The location and infrastructure of Benicarlo can be seen on Google Maps. The place is originally shaped and not yet overrun by increasing tourism. Nevertheless, you will find a diverse range of leisure activities. Various shopping options, supermarkets (Mercadona, Lidl, Consum, Spar, etc.), a large shopping center, weekly market, market hall, and fish market, as well as many small boutiques, bakeries, ice cream parlors, cafes, pharmacies, and medical centers can be found in the city.
Excursions and bathing tips nearby
Benicarló offers 3 beautiful bathing beaches. Mar Chica, the somewhat wild pebble beach, Playa Morrongo, the popular and lively city beach, with many cafes and restaurants, as well as the elongated Playa de la Caracola, which seamlessly transitions into the beach of Peñíscola.
7 km further lies the old papal residence, Peñíscola. There, tourism thrives in all its facets, albeit somewhat at the expense of the peace and calm still found in Benicarlo. Peñíscola is accessible by car in a few minutes, with public transport running every minute.
In addition to the city's abundant leisure activities, Benicarlo is a starting point for many cultural excursions.
Sierra Irta - pure nature, right on your doorstep
A very special highlight is the Sierra Irta Nature Reserve. Here you will find a coastal landscape straight out of a picture book. Maritime peculiarities, such as rare fish species, shells, and types of rock, alternate with the wild, wind-swept coast. Well-maintained hiking trails or cross-country routes ranging from easy to difficult lead you to points from which you can overlook the Sierra in all its glory. Many beautiful photo books, nature guides, and nature documentaries have been created here.
In the past, the entire coast was lined with watchtowers, the so-called "Badum". Some of these towers, on which fire was lit in times of danger from water and land, have been restored, while others have been left in their original state. They are historical witnesses, always a popular subject for photography.
Today, the old coast guard station houses a marine biology institute, which deals with currents, flora, and underwater fauna. Right next door is a spacious parking lot, which serves as a starting point for excursions. The sandy beaches alongside are legendary, the rock formations that follow are unique. Here, every sun worshiper or water sports enthusiast finds their perfect retreat.
Day trips and sights
Valencia, Barcelona, or the ancient Templar town of Morella, located in the mountains, are very popular day trips. Both historically and culturally interesting places are easily accessible from here by car, train, or bus. In the surrounding area, visiting the towns of Cervera and Traiguera is worthwhile.
For nature enthusiasts, the extensive Ebro Delta with its rice fields and salt pans is definitely worth a visit. A nature reserve paradise with flamingos and many other animal and plant species. Here, there are opportunities for kitesurfing and many other water sports.

It is possible to book a trial dive here at the pool. Trial diving refers to one or more dives in which non-divers can experience scuba diving under the guidance of a diving instructor. The purpose of the trial dive is to allow interested individuals to determine through practical experience whether diving is something for them. During the introductory dive, the participant learns the minimal necessary safety guidelines and skills required for diving under the close supervision of a diving instructor. The introductory dive includes:
Introduction to the diving equipment used during the introductory dive and how to move underwater with it.
Breathing underwater from a compressed air diving device and how to avoid barotrauma. Learning the most basic skills that must be applied on every dive.

We were on site for 10 days with 6 people, then 6 new guests arrived. It would have been nice to know that so many people would use the pool. The service, on the other hand, was excellent; issues were immediately resolved by the son.

Nice holiday with friendly hosts
We had a fantastic time there with our son. We had beautiful weather every day, just as you would wish for in a summer vacation. The vacation house is very well equipped and the pool is a dream. The location of the vacation house is excellent, quiet but incredibly central. In a few minutes you can reach Benicarlo, also Vinaros and Peniscola can be easily reached by car in 10 minutes. The surroundings are very beautiful. Wonderful beaches that are not overcrowded even during peak season, food and drinks at a reasonable price. Mainly Spanish tourists were present in the area during our vacation, which we liked very much. We would love to visit this vacation house again, especially because the hosts are very nice and left nothing to be desired. Dear Astrid, dear Günther, thank you very much for the great vacation!

Sylvester in the holiday home.
We spent the New Year here and I can only say, it was great, even though December/January is not the usual travel time for Spain.
Nevertheless, the weather was good, so we could be outside a lot and even sunbathe. On New Year's Eve, we celebrated with friends, and everything was perfect. We even used the outdoor grill. Inside, the wood stove was burning, and the whole house was cozy and beautifully warm. Next time, we will come back in the summer so that we can use the pool. We are already looking forward to it very much.
