Büsum is particularly known for its long green beaches instead of the traditional sandy ones. However, for those who don't want to miss out on sandcastles and typical beach fun, a visit to Büsumer Deichhausen is recommended. Another highlight is the Family Lagoon Perlebucht: here, there is no ebb tide and superb water sports opportunities. A unique feature, alongside the classic mudflat hiking, is mudflat walking with music, where walkers are accompanied by a band. This roughly three-week event takes place annually from mid-August to early September. If you want to see your holiday home from above, you can book scenic flights at Heide-Büsum Airfield.
At Büsum's harbor, primarily excursion boats and shrimp cutters are anchored, with which you can take trips to nearby islands or the local coast and the mudflats. Be sure to plan a trip to the famous destination of Heligoland or take a boat trip to the seal banks off the coast. But what impresses most about Büsum are its very well-maintained and beautiful beaches. Here, every beach lover will find the perfect spot to truly enjoy the North Sea. Unique is the proximity to the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park with its unique natural landscape. Experience mudflats and tidal creeks, dunes, and salt marshes here.
When the sun isn't shining, a visit to the Meerzeit Adventure Pool near the main beach is recommended, which you can also easily reach from your privately rented holiday apartment on the North Sea coast. A visit to the Büsumer Sea Worlds Aquarium is also worthwhile. Whether it's a tropical coral garden or the cold North Sea floor, whether crocodiles, lizards, sharks, or stingrays: Here, you can experience one of Germany's most diverse aquarium facilities daily from 10 AM to 6 PM in 39 aquariums and terrariums with freshwater and seawater. (As of August 2023) The area around Büsum is also excellent for a holiday with your dog. There are not only designated dog beaches where you can rent beach chairs and large off-leash areas, but also the Christianslust Dog Forest. Mudflat hikes with dogs are also offered here, and a variety of hiking and biking trails are available nearby for exploration.
The culinary scene in Büsum is largely shaped by the Fishing Harbor. Why not enjoy a shrimp omelette in the privacy of your holiday home or apartment – simple and delicious. In cooler weather, the famous Captain's Tea from Tee Hansen is warming. In the town center, several charming restaurants beckon, such as Steak House Störtebeker and Kolle's Shellfish Hall.
The community operates several museums and organizes numerous exhibitions. Particularly beautiful is the modernly restored Museum Harbor with lovely historic ships, the Büsum Lighthouse, and the Museum by the Sea, a facility dedicated to this natural space and its use by humans. West of Alleestraße is the Town Hall, built in 1915 in the neo-baroque style, which impresses particularly with its elaborate facade. Right behind the heritage-listed town hall is also the St. Clemens Church from the 15th century. Here, services and small concerts are held regularly, which you are welcome to attend during your seaside holiday.
