Rendsburg, with its highlights, is a great destination if you are taking a beach vacation inland. Here, you will find numerous attractions in the old town around the Gothic St. Mary's Church, at the Old Town Market, and around the Schiffbrückenplatz. It is said that the architecturally most interesting building is the Catholic St. Martin's Church, which was inaugurated in 1967. The so-called Neuwerk is the Baroque new town with its noteworthy garrison church, the Paradeplatz, and the Arsenal, where you can recognize the former garrison town. Follow the "blue line," which will lead you through the entire city with its interesting 30 stations.
A very special event is the Rendsburger Herbst, one of the largest city festivals in Northern Germany, held at the end of August at Schiffbrückenplatz, Schlossplatz, and Paradeplatz with live music and lots of culture. The Railway High Bridge is a year-round attraction, crossing the Kiel Canal at a height of 42 meters and used by trains. Below it hangs the transporter bridge for pedestrian traffic. Known as the "suspension ferry," it is listed as Germany's Technical Monument and is on the candidate list for designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Rendsburg and its surroundings are ideal destinations for a relaxing vacation between cycling and kicking back. On hot or cold days, Aquacity with its outdoor and indoor pools and sauna is a great attraction. Beautiful biking and hiking trails lead through moorlands, extensive forests, and sprawling wet meadows full of rare plant and animal species. Pets are welcome in the affordable vacation apartments in Rendsburg, so nothing stands in the way of your vacation with your dog. At the Kiel Canal, take a meditative break and watch as the large ships and mega cruise ships that have seen the world slowly navigate the canal. You can also take a small cruise with your loved ones on excursion boats to places like Kiel.
Rendsburg's cuisine is influenced by three "countries." Here, you will find specialties from Lower Saxony, from Denmark, and from Friesland. Products from surrounding farms and fish freshly delivered through the Kiel Canal are used. A real specialty, possibly rooted in Denmark, is the Holsteiners and Schleswigers' preference for combining hearty sour-salty flavors with sweet. This is often expressed in sauces that are served sour, salty, or sweet to contrast with the main dish.
At the Rendsburg Museum, you can learn all about the city's history and the Kiel Canal. From Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and on weekends from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, you can admire the exhibits here. (As of January 2024) The Electric Museum and the Jewish Museum offer additional cultural entertainment and informative exhibitions. You can admire artworks at Kunstwerk Carlshütte. Unique sculptures and paintings are displayed here in changing exhibitions. Experience performing arts in theater form at the Landestheater Randsburg. Changing performances in a wonderful setting delight both young and old.
