Centuries-Old History Between Mountains, Forests, and Deep Gorges

The historic places of Upper Allgäu attract with all sorts of sights. The greatest attraction of Upper Allgäu is the breathtaking landscape with its peaks, valleys, rivers, lakes, and forests. Visit the deepest rock gorge in Central Europe, the spectacular Breitachklamm. The Breitach has carved its way through the rocks to a depth of about 150 meters. The upper entrance is located in Austria, and the lower entrance of the gorge is near Oberstdorf. The hiking trail winds through the gorge for 2.5 kilometers. The gorge has only been accessible since the 20th century. The gorge is a special natural experience.

King Ludwig II is an integral part of Bavarian history.
