We got there a little after 18:00. Had called and that was no problem. Excellent reception and good impression of the apartment. It was clean, tidy and everything you need. The area also fine. Supermarket nearby and plenty to do in the area.

How is the weather in Gaschurn?

Snow-sure in winter, rich in rain in summer

Located between four glaciers, Gaschurn is ideal for a ski holiday in Vorarlberg during the winter months. Between October and April, temperatures at night are in the negative range. It gets really cold from December to February. Then the temperatures drop to an average of minus eleven to minus 13 degrees for each month. The winters are thus snow-sure. Even more precipitation falls in the summer months than in winter. The statistical 82 millimeters of precipitation in January are significantly exceeded in June with 105 mm. The temperatures climb to average daytime highs of a warm 17 degrees in July and August. Equipped with waterproof boots and a rain jacket, guests in a cheap accommodation or a holiday apartment or a house in Gaschurn will find an ideal base for a hiking holiday in Montafon.

Where can I eat out in Gaschurn?

Sweet, sour, and hearty in Montafon

The specialty of Montafon is the Sura Kees, the Montafon sour cheese. This sour milk cheese, not dissimilar to Tyrolean gray cheese, has been a local product since the 12th century. Its production reflects the geography of Vorarlberg with its high peaks and sloping valleys. The original Sura Kees is produced on alpine pastures in huts. However, the vast majority of Sura Kees now comes from dairies in the valleys. This has a significantly lower fat content of about one percent compared to the alpine sour cheese with a 10 percent fat content. On the one hand, it is served pure on black bread or with onions, vinegar, and oil. On the other hand, Sura Kees is used in Montafon cheese soup or in Kasnocken, the Austrian cheese spaetzle. Vorarlbergers not only swear by the taste of Sura Kees, but they also attribute quasi-medical abilities to it as an ideal hangover remedy.
