The 2-room apartment is newly built and has a luxurious feel. The friendly owners Denise and Lucas live upstairs. To the apartment is not all ready, but this did not bother us totally. The kitchen is minimally equipped, making extensive cooking is a challenge. Gaschurn is perfect for walkers and cyclists. Several gondolas open also in June. The disadvantage of Gaschurn is that it lies at the end of the valley (Silvretta High Alpine Road beginning 15 euro pd). Vaduz Liechtenstein, we found a bit disappointing. The nearby Feldkirch (east) and St. Gallen (SUI) has much more appeal. Bodensee 1 hour away.

Travel to the Vorarlberg Alps in Gaschurn by car

It gets really cold from December to February. Then the temperatures drop to an average of minus eleven to minus 13 degrees for each month. The winters are thus snow-sure. Even more precipitation falls in the summer months than in winter. The statistical 82 millimeters of precipitation in January are significantly exceeded in June with 105 mm. The temperatures climb to average daytime highs of a warm 17 degrees in July and August. Where can I eat out in Gaschurn?

Sweet, sour, and hearty in Montafon

The specialty of Montafon is the Sura Kees, the Montafon sour cheese. This sour milk cheese, not dissimilar to Tyrolean gray cheese, has been a local product since the 12th century. Its production reflects the geography of Vorarlberg with its high peaks and sloping valleys. The original Sura Kees is produced on alpine pastures in huts. However, the vast majority of Sura Kees now comes from dairies in the valleys. This has a significantly lower fat content of about one percent compared to the alpine sour cheese with a 10 percent fat content. On the one hand, it is served pure on black bread or with onions, vinegar, and oil. On the other hand, Sura Kees is used in Montafon cheese soup or in Kasnocken, the Austrian cheese spaetzle. Vorarlbergers not only swear by the taste of Sura Kees, but they also attribute quasi-medical abilities to it as an ideal hangover remedy.

The first ski exercises in the Silvretta

Skiing has to be learned, and where better to do this than on a family holiday with children in Vorarlberg? Four glaciers are located in the mountain slopes of the Silvretta mountain range and many more ski areas. Snow and ice in all directions are not only an exciting sight for children and teenagers, but they can also stand on skis themselves. Experienced skiers whizz down the slopes easily and lightly, while beginners can gain their first experiences. There is a ski school in the municipality of Gaschurn-Partenen. In St. Gallenkirch, Schruns, or Gargellen, there are more ski and snowboard schools to choose from for the little ones - or big newcomers on one or two boards. Numerous ski lifts take you to the wonderful slopes. You can also take your dog or pet with you and hike together through the idyllic surroundings. Numerous sights, for example in St. Gallenkirch, are not far away and are waiting for you! The Silvretta High Alpine Road leads from the Vorarlberg Montafon over the Vermunt and the Bielerhöhe through the mountains of the Silvretta into the Tyrolean Paznaun.
