Sightseeing during your seaside holiday
The magic of Diano Marina is due not least to the numerous orange trees within the town, which provide an enchanting fragrance and have earned it the nickname "Città degli aranci", meaning the City of Oranges. Once a medieval town, Diano Marina lost its old town center in the devastating earthquake of 1887. The present appearance of the old town is dominated by pretty 19th and early 20th-century buildings. A beautifully designed pedestrian zone with many bars, cafes, and restaurants contributes to the charm of this cozy holiday destination. The beautiful sandy beach is within walking distance of many holiday apartments and holiday homes and is the main attraction of the town. The medieval castle of Diano Castello, which is located above Diano Marina and already belongs to the small town of Diano Castello, is one of the tourist attractions. Diano Marino has numerous sacred sights, including the Church of Sant'Antonio from 1865 and the medieval oratory of Santa Annunziata with its magnificent frescoes. The Palazzo del Parco dates back to the 14th century and houses the fascinating archaeological museum and the city library. The Villa Scarsella tells an interesting story, originally being the convent of the Dominican monks, and was later converted into a villa for noble families.
Diano Marina and its famous surroundings
Enrich your holiday with excursions to the attractions of the Riviera, which are not far from your holiday home or holiday apartment. These include the provincial capital of Imperia, where you should visit the unusual Villa Grock, which once belonged to the world's most famous clown. A fun train trip along the coast takes you to San Remo (also Sanremo), a stylish town with winding medieval streets, the Villa Ormond with its Japanese garden along with ancient olive trees, and the magnificent 12th-century San Siro Cathedral. Don't miss the famous Casino Sanremo and its theater, both housed in a beautiful Art Nouveau building. Not far from your accommodation is the stunningly situated Bussana Vecchia, a village inhabited solely by artists. The elegant Menton on the French Côte d'Azur is one of the top destinations on the Riviera. On the way there, you will come across the famous Giardini Hanbury, which invites you to stop and explore. Tip: Art and literature lovers should visit the Musée Jean Cocteau.
Your attractive holiday by the Ligurian Sea
The kilometers-long beach between Imperia and Diano invites not only for sunbathing and swimming but also for leisurely strolls. Chic cafes, bars, and restaurants and a lively harbor contribute to the town's flair. Numerous villas, holiday homes, and holiday apartments await you, and there are no compromises in terms of location and amenities. They are ideal for a relaxing beach holiday in Diano Marina, enriched by many excursion possibilities. The horseshoe-shaped fine sandy beach with sun loungers and umbrellas is popular with families with children who can safely splash around under supervision and in shallow water. Couples and singles also feel at home in the well-equipped holiday apartments and holiday homes around Diano Marina. The many gastronomic offers and numerous beautiful walks make this possible. The sparsely populated hinterland offers wonderful excursion possibilities for nature lovers and holidaymakers with dogs, including the pretty village of Diano San Pietro amidst ancient olive groves. The Ligurian coast is possibly the last refuge in Italy for you to enjoy a delightful holiday with your dog in Diano Marina. While pets are increasingly banned at beaches and restaurants elsewhere in Italy, Liguria shows its big heart for dogs and their owners. This is evidenced by the many dog-friendly holiday apartments, villas, and holiday homes with pools or gardens available for rent at a low price in the province of Imperia. Particularly between Imperia and Diano Marina, there are several designated dog beaches, which are among the best on the Italian Riviera. Especially elegant sections with dog showers, playgrounds, and bars for dog owners are subject to a fee.
Liguria's cuisine – down-to-earth and very delicious
Liguria's gastronomy has many highlights - from crabs on the coast to meat in the mountain regions. Internationally famous, however, is Pesto alla Genovese, which is made from basil, olive oil, pine nuts, garlic, and cheese. Don't miss equipping the kitchen of your holiday home with a few jars of this handmade delicacy, preferably hand-made. Trenette, the narrow ribbon noodles, or the barley-like Trofie taste particularly good with pesto. Rabbit with sage and thyme, braised lamb shank, and tender veal cutlet – these are other delicacies you should definitely try on your trips to the dreamy mountain villages. For the brave and gourmets, don't miss the old Ligurian specialty: Lumache alla Ligure. These are snails prepared with porcini mushrooms and tomatoes. Ligurian wines, which are not exported and have retained their own character to this day, go well with the regional dishes.
From rock to carnival – celebrate as the festivities come
The main holiday season for the Italians is August. Therefore, book one of the beautiful holiday apartments or holiday homes early to enjoy the numerous small and large cultural events on offer. Concerts from classical to rock, art exhibitions, and theater and film screenings are standard during the high season. Expect a festive atmosphere during the Corpus Domini feast when the "Infiorata del Corpus Domini" is celebrated, and the streets of the town are strewn with flowers. Don't miss the lively carnival of Diano Marina – carnival fans should be especially prepared for the Sunday after Mardi Gras.
Diano Marina – easily accessible by car or train
Diano Marina belongs to the province of Imperia in Liguria. The town is located on the gulf of the same name, which gives the town a four-kilometer-long sandy beach. Many holiday apartments and holiday homes with swimming pools can be rented at low cost directly in the town, by the sea, or in the beautiful Ligurian countryside.
