Description

The Lindenhaus (part of a historic workers' cottage) dates back to the 1930s and has been carefully renovated. Many original parts were deliberately preserved, such as doors, lever handle fittings and box windows with toggle catches. New vintage-style tiles, Bakelite light switches, an old interior window with glazing bars and a retro fridge (with freezer compartment) create a special atmosphere.

The house has been furnished with a mixture of antique furniture, individual pieces treated with chalk paint and simple modern pieces where contemporary comfort should be provided (beds). The kitchen and bathroom have been completely remodelled. The new wooden floors have been leached white and soaped in the Scandinavian style, resulting in a wonderfully velvety surface. Guests are therefore requested to wear slippers.
The kitchen is connected to the living room by a double-leaf door, creating a large, cosy living area and allowing you to enjoy the view of the fire in the wood-burning stove from the living room. The small garden offers various seating areas, including a covered area where you can relax in a hammock in any weather or enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. Guests can store their bicycles in a shed.
The house is particularly suitable for two couples, as there are two bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.

The holiday home is located in a traffic-calmed zone on the edge of the village with other historic houses and a white castle in the neighbourhood. Aldi, Edeka, bakery, pharmacy and restaurants are within walking distance. The lake and a great swimming area with toilets, showers, a playground and a charming bistro are just a few minutes away by bike.

In the high season (June, July, August) only the entire house can be rented.
In the low season (mid-March - May and September / October) the price quoted refers to the lower floor for 1-2 people (upstairs is not rented to other guests at the same time). If you wish to occupy the entire house, you must enter at least 3 persons.
From November to mid-March (low season) only the lower floor can be booked. On request, a third person can be accommodated on the daybed in the living room. At Christmas and New Year's Eve and around public holidays, the mid-season prices apply.
In the garden, guests can use tables and seating for 4 people, a sun lounger, two deckchairs, a parasol, two comfortable chairs at the top of the gallery and two Acapulco chairs (see photo) at the back of the garden.

Location and surroundings of object

The Lindenhaus is located in Schleswig-Holstein in the small municipality of Selent near the Baltic Sea. The area is characterised by the Ice Age with numerous lakes and rolling hills. Picturesque small towns such as Lütjenburg, Plön (with its castle), Eutin (with its castle) and Preetz attract visitors with their owner-run shops, weekly markets and varied gastronomy. Small villages with thatched cottages, imposing farmhouses and manor houses and stately manor houses such as Panker are scattered throughout the landscape. You can cycle or hike along quiet paths to or along the Baltic Sea. Many farms offer regional products directly from the producer in a café or farm shop.
The Baltic Sea coast offers a wide variety of beaches: from beaches with a promenade and tourist infrastructure (in the Bay of Kiel and Hohwacht area), which are subject to visitor's tax, to small natural beaches.
Many nature reserves invite you to go bird watching and exploring on foot or by bike. The forests are home to numerous wild animals, especially fallow deer (which come right up to our house), and sea eagles, cranes and great egrets circle overhead. With a bit of luck you may also see the kingfisher.

In summer there are concerts in many, sometimes original, places: on the beach, in barns, in parks or on estates, in boat harbours, or simply around a campfire. It's worth studying the SHM festival programme in advance and booking tickets in good time! In addition to prominent classical music artists, international performers from pop and jazz (Jazz Baltica) to experimental and world music also appear.
Artists and craftspeople regularly organise open studio days in June. The Open Garden Day also takes place on the last weekend in June. Kiel Week also begins on this weekend. Numerous large garden fairs (Ambienta, Park an Garden) also provide an insight into some of the estates in the area.

The island of Fehmarn, Lübeck (Unesco World Heritage Site) and Hamburg can be reached in 30 minutes to 1 hour by car. Schleswig with the Viking settlement of Haithabu (Unesco World Heritage Site) and the Danewerk as well as the Danish border are also worth a visit.

Selent can be reached by public transport. The transport network also makes it possible to explore the surrounding area by bus with the Deutschlandticket.

Mrs. F. Marlow

By renting out our Lindenhaus, I have fulfilled a dream. I look forward to meeting nice tenants who, like me, like authentically renovated houses. As I come from the area, I can give lots of insider tips if required.
