Location and surroundings of object

When you walk through Burgh-Haamstede, you realise that the village has no end. In fact, you then have to deal with several villages: Burgh and Haamstede. And then there is Nieuw-Haamstede on the coast. Yet nowhere does one have the feeling that it is overcrowded. Burgh-Haamstede is situated in a beautiful part of Zeeland with extensive nature areas, dunes and beach in the immediate vicinity

additional information:

Sights in the vicinity
Carolingian castle
Burgh takes its name from the Carolingian ring castle, as it is called in Zeeland. In the early Middle Ages, fortresses had to protect the population from the Normans. Burgh-Haamstede Castle is well preserved, and additional restoration work gives an impression of what it must have looked like many centuries ago during a tour. The large area of the castle is particularly impressive
Burgh-Haamstede
Lighthouse
Haamstede's most famous building is the Westerlicht lighthouse. And that really makes it one of the must-sees. Older generations will remember that the lighthouse was once depicted on the 250-guilder note. The tower rises 53 metres above the ground and is still used as a beacon for shipping. The light from the tower shines for 30 nautical miles and the lantern has a luminosity of 5.2 million candles. With its red and white stripes, the tower has a striking appearance. They were added in the 1930s to improve the tower's visibility to aircraft.

Forestry Westerschouwen
In Zeeland's largest forest, you can walk for hours through a hilly dune landscape with sand drifts, forests, valleys and dune meadows. The Boswachterij Westerschouwen is one of Zeeland's most beautiful nature reserves. The Boswachterij is 330 hectares in size and almost completely accessible. Whether you go on foot, by bike, MTB or on horseback, there are beautiful routes for you. Also check out the excursion barn at the main entrance. A visit to this forest is also great fun with children. There is a special treasure hunt for them or they can let off steam in the climbing forest. Tip: There is also a high watchtower from which you can overlook the entire area.

Meeuwenduinen
This is one of the most beautiful dune areas on Schouwen-Duiveland. In the Meeuwenduinen you will find young bare dunes, moss plains and dune grassland. Besides rabbits and songbirds, the area's namesakes are also at home here: gulls. Thousands of black-headed and herring gulls nest here every year. To ensure that the dunes retain their barren character (and leave room for unusual dune plants), the area is grazed. Shetland ponies, along with deer and roe deer, ensure that holly and wild orchids can flourish here. A seven-kilometre hiking trail leads through this area. If you start at the Excursieschuur in the neighbouring Boswachterij, you have a brisk but beautiful 12 km route.

large holiday home with a very beautiful secluded garden in a prime location near the wonderful beach

Well-equipped house with a very beautiful and large, secluded garden. The beach is nearby. The kitchen is large and has everything you need, the living room is spacious and very cozy with a fireplace. There is plenty of space for large families, with three bathrooms and a guest toilet. We felt very comfortable.

Nice to meet you! We fell in love with the Zeeland coast during the Corona and bought this beautiful house together with friends. We come there often ourselves and rent it out a few times a year.
