Our RotesStrandhaus in the North Sea resort of Schillig - with a view of the island of Wangerooge - is a little paradise. Here the world has come to an end in a wonderful way: in front of you there is only the sea, a wonderful white sandy beach and the sky. From the balcony - our lookout - a fabulous view of the North Sea awaits you. Large and small ships set off on their journey, lighthouses show them the way - until they disappear behind the islands on the horizon. When the sun is shining, you go - equipped with shovels, buckets, books or kites - barefoot through the dunes to the sea in five minutes: splashing in waves, surfing down dunes, flying kites and letting your mind wander. In stormy weather, you can look forward to a hot tea in front of the fireplace or a visit to the sauna - after a walk by the wildly roaring sea.

Location and surroundings of object
Painted Swedish red with a white veranda, our holiday home is one of ten Swedish-style houses sheltered just behind the North Sea dyke. On a large wild property where children can run around undisturbed. Bordered by a graft and surrounded by old trees, sea buckthorn, rose hips, privet, grasses and herbs. Ducks and rabbits are also our neighbours.
In the house you have everything you need for a nice holiday: Plenty of space, lots of glass for an unobstructed view, a fully equipped kitchen, depending on the weather a warming fireplace, sauna, whirlpool bath or even our favourite spot on the balcony: where we enjoy our sundowner in the light of the lighthouses.
About 250m away is the centre of Schillig with supermarket, bakery, restaurants, cafés, ice cream shop, some boutiques and a small beach cinema.
If you have any special wishes, you can always contact the "Hotel am Strand" (about 250 m away) and make use of the hotel services, such as wellness and fitness offers, beach chairs and, in high summer, childcare. Horumersiel-Schillig has a long tradition as a holiday resort and is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the North Sea. There's a reason for that: it's like being on an island here. Through a wild dune landscape you reach the beautiful long sandy beach and the sea. Schillig is an Eldorado for kitesurfers and landboarders. Sailors and surfers get their money's worth, as do cyclists, horse riders and anglers. Schillig is a paradise for children: besides digging in the sand and splashing in the shallow water, there is everything on the beach that children love. Horumersiel itself is a lovely little harbour town with numerous restaurants, cafés and small shops. Boat tours, day trips to the East Frisian Islands or mudflat walks are offered from here. Even when the weather is bad, there is plenty to do. The "Seesternchen" playhouse is right in the village, and there is an indoor seawater swimming pool and the Frieslandtherme thermal baths. A few kilometres away is the huge "Bullermeck" play barn. Excursions are possible to Wilhelmshaven, Jever and the harbour towns of Carolinensiel, Neuharlingersiel, Greetsiel and the artists' village of Dangast.

Fascinating expanse. On this side and on the other side of the dyke, the view can roam unhindered: Water to the horizon, high sky and green pastures. And between land and water: the wonder world of the Wadden Sea.
From our large loggia you can observe the vagaries of the weather. Sometimes the clouds hang so low over the beach house that you think you could reach in with your arms raised. The warmth inside defies the storms from the sea.
Then again, the world is a different place. Gusts from the northwest have pushed the clouds away, cleared the sky and now the sun is blazing over the dyke, which slopes gently down to the sea. Rainbows decorate the sky.
In front of you is the salt marsh with its breeding grounds for all kinds of birds. To the right and left, as far as you can see, the beach, framed by dunes and waves. In the sky, kites dance with the clouds. Sunshine fills the beach house. Dive in and click your way through:
