The house stands at a proper distance from the other guest house, Casa Lurdes, on a 2,335 sq. ft. lot surrounded by a charming newly landscaped garden with many native flowers, palms and trees.
At the back of Casa Granel, in the shade of old trees, is a barbecue area with benches and table.
Due to the open, exposed southwest location, the house and garden have sun all day in nice weather.
From the large veranda you have a magnificent view of the sea and on the back of the house to the crater rim of Sete Cidades and the cone of the "local mountain" Pico de Mafra.
one of the most famous hiking trails of the island passes by the property.
the small rural village, João Bom, belongs to the Bretanha region named after Breton settlers and is located on the northwestern tip of the island of Sao Miguel.
with about 300 inhabitants, the village belongs to the municipality of Pilar da Bretanha in the Ponta Delgada district.
in the village there is a minimercado for the daily needs. Further shopping facilities can be found in the villages of Ginetes or Capelas (both 20 minutes by car).

The capital Ponta Delgada, with its wide variety of shopping and dining options, can be reached in less than 45 minutes via well-maintained roads. Seven daily connections also make it possible to arrive by bus.
the most important events in the town, as in the Azores in general, are the Holy Ghost festivals with the Whitsun processions as highlights. In the village they are dedicated, among others, to the Império de João Bom, a small chapel in the immediate vicinity of the estate.
joão Bom is located at the foot of the Caldeira Sete Cidades. This is the most famous crater landscape of the Azores, chosen as one of the 7 natural wonders of Portugal. Many viewpoints with beautiful views of the blue and green lake, the imposing crater walls and the lakes around can be easily reached from João Bom or hiked (e.g. through a tunnel).
In the village of Sete Cidades you will find various restaurants and cafes.
swimming is possible at the sandy beach and the natural pools of the fishing village Mosteiros, which can be reached by car in about 10 minutes. The spectacular sunsets but also the restaurants and bars also invite to an evening visit.
alternatively, Mosteiros can also be hiked on foot via an extension of the hiking circuit "Athalho dos Vermelhos", which passes by the property. This popular circular route originally leads around the "local mountain" of the estate, the Pico de Mafra.
bathing in hot springs is possible in the Ferraria of Ginetes (20 minutes drive).
João Bom is a tranquil place, ideal for people who are looking for peace and quiet in a friendly village and yet do not want to miss the proximity to the city, the beach and hiking trails.
