Travel guide Überlingen
From Old Towers, Gates, Churches, and Chapels
The towers of the former city fortifications that still stand today include the Gallerturm, Wagsauterturm, St. Johann Tower, and Rosenobel. Some of these are used as clubhouses. From the outer city ring, the Aufkircher Tor is also preserved. The only remaining gate from the inner ring is the Franziskanertor.
The Münster St. Nikolaus is the largest church building on Lake Constance. Noteworthy is the large, ornate wooden altar from the late Renaissance. Even older is the Sylvester Chapel from the 9th century in the Goldbach district.
Theater, Museums, and Readings
The
Reichlin-von-Meldegg House, one of the oldest Renaissance buildings in Germany, is also worth a visit. It houses the

Patrician Palace.
The museum is open at the following times (as of August 2023):

Other exhibitions can be seen in the former
Ballroom from the 19th century on the lakeside promenade. Here are some city events you shouldn't miss:

The Best from Four Culinary Traditions in Überlingen
Lake Constance cuisine features 4 strong culinary influences. From Austria come hearty and sweet dumplings, Liechtenstein contributes Käsknöpfle with apple compote, and Switzerland brings Rösti to the menus. Maultaschen with various fillings, Spätzle, and Schäuferle come from Swabia.
Try Dünnele – the Lake Constance Tarte Flambée – and pair it with a delicious white wine from the region. Freshly caught pike-perch, whitefish, perch, and char come from the lake.
Wine enthusiasts will find eight growing areas with grape varieties such as Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Gris (Ruländer), Riesling, and Pinot Noir. Excellent brandies made from overripe regional fruit provide a perfect after-dinner treat.

By Boat to the Flower Island of Mainau
From Überlingen, the Lake Constance Shipping Companies connect the places Dingelsdorf (near Konstanz), Unteruhldingen, Mainau, and Meersburg. There is also passenger traffic to Marienschlucht, Sipplingen, and Ludwigshafen.
With the
White Fleet, you can reach the island of Mainau, the third-largest island in Lake Constance. Worth seeing is the
Teutonic Order Castle from the 18th century with surrounding parklands, the Palm House, and the castle church.
Due to the numerous Mediterranean plants and even some tropical species, the island is nicknamed
"Flower Island". A highlight of the island, besides the city gardens, is the Butterfly House. In a tropical climate with over 80 percent humidity, nearly 1,000 butterflies thrive.
The
Mainau Kinderland offers children fun with various cabins, suspension bridges, and rafts. Here, the little ones can really let off steam.
