We were at the vacation apartment 3 over Pentecost. This apartment has everything you need and is beautiful! Completely renovated, great terrace with a wonderful view of Lake Constance! Very clean and well-maintained! The attic was ideal for our daughter! With a small balcony and a great view too! From one bedroom, you can even see Lake Constance from the bed! The contact is absolutely uncomplicated and there is a local contact person.
An ideal starting point for trips around Lake Constance and the vacation apartment is top-notch in every respect! We would come back at any time! Absolutely recommended!

Which sights are there in Meersburg?

A Picturesque Cityscape

As the city is situated on a slope, it is divided into an upper and lower town. In the lower town, for example, you'll find the Gredhaus at the harbor, which served as a central storage and trading place as early as the 16th century. The Magic Column displays various personalities from the city's history. In the upper town stands the imposing Meersburg Castle, considered the oldest inhabited castle in Germany, built in 1508.

Also worth seeing are the Old and the New Castle, which have shaped the cityscape for a long time. Particularly beautiful and picturesque are the houses of the upper town around the market square. The Town Hall is also worth a visit. Dating back to the 15th century, it is a real eye-catcher in the city center. The lower town was created by land reclamation at the end of the 13th century. The old settlement below the castle stretched between the hillside and the current market square, where fishermen and ferrymen probably lived.

What is a must-see in Meersburg?

Meersburg - City of Museums

In the upper town, there are numerous interesting museums. Among them is the Zeppelin Museum, which displays original components, models, and inventory. From March to the end of November, you can visit the various exhibitions daily from 10 AM to 6 PM. Adults pay an entrance fee of 5€, children from 6 years only 2€ (as of October 2023). At the castle square, you will find the Castle Museum, where various relics from the Middle Ages are exhibited. A large part of the impressive castle is accessible, where you can admire the knight's hall, the armory, the king's hall, or the eerie torture chamber up close.

Also worth seeing is the Droste Museum in the Fürstenhäusle, located amidst a vineyard. The seasonal opening hours can be found here. Tickets for the Fürstenhäusle cost 5€ for adults and 2.50€ for concessions (as of October 2023). In Vorburggasse, there is a Wine Museum in the Holy Spirit Hospital. 15 themed rooms with all sorts of interesting facts about wine from the region and beyond can be found here. On the ground floor, there is also a wine vending machine. The New Castle displays beautiful Baroque architecture. Here, there is also a magnificent hall of mirrors and numerous viewing terraces. This building is definitely worth a visit!

Where can I eat out in Meersburg?

One Million Liters of Wine

You will quickly notice that viticulture here has a long and significant tradition. The vineyards of Hagnau and Unteruhldingen are clearly visible during a ferry ride. In total, there are about 120 hectares of vineyards in the areas of Meersburg and Stetten, producing approximately one million liters of wine. Important grape varieties include, for example, Pinot Noir and Müller-Thurgau.

Typical culinary delicacies are Kässpätzle, Maultaschen, lentils, Schupfnudeln, Flädlesuppe, or the Baden herb quark known as Bibiliskäs. Here, you can stroll leisurely along the lakeside promenade and settle down in one of the wine taverns, a restaurant, or a local eatery. The terrace of the Alte Post is right at the boat landing and is known for delicious meat and fish dishes. Afterwards, you can walk back to your cozy vacation apartment in Meersburg along the waterfront promenade at sunset.

Via the Rieschentreppe, you can go from the boat landing to the upper town and enjoy a magnificent view of the harbor and the lower town from above. Since January 2004, the city of Meersburg has been part of the German Timber-Frame Road.
