What do you need to experience in Poris de Abona?
Mountains, gorges, and forests - Explore the island
Poris de Abona in the south of Tenerife is an ideal starting point to discover the many attractions of the island. Start your round trip of the island Tenerife clockwise in the southwest at the town of Adeje. There you will find the Hell's Gorge (Barranco del Infierno), a popular destination for nature lovers and hikers. Barranco means "gorge" in Spanish - the Barranco del Infierno is one of the most impressive gorges on Tenerife, at the upper end of which an 80-meter-high waterfall plunges into the depths. A little further north is the municipality of Los Gigantes with the Acantilados de los Gigantes, a steep coast up to 450 meters high. The cliffs offer the most spectacular view from the sea. Boat tours depart daily from Los Cristianos. The trip to the steep coast can be combined with whale and dolphin watching. In the far northwest is the Anaga mountain range, a 20-kilometer-long mountain range with humid cloud forests that look like magical forests due to the gnarled evergreen laurel trees. The biggest highlight of the island is also the highest mountain in Spain - the 3,718-meter-high Pico del Teide. A permit from the National Park Administration is required to climb the summit, but it is also possible to reach just below the summit without one. A less strenuous activity is visiting the Loro Parque parrot park. On 135,000 square meters, 4,500 animals from 570 species can be admired.

Where can I eat out in Poris de Abona?
Mojo, Papas, and Gofio - simple and delicious
The cuisine of the Canary Islands is simple and delicious. The typical dishes of the islands are made from a few basic ingredients: fish and seafood, potatoes, fresh fruit and vegetables, and gofio, a special flour made from roasted grain. Fish and seafood were introduced to the menu by the Spanish conquerors, as the indigenous Canarians, the Guanches, were not fishermen. Gofio, on the other hand, was a staple food even before the Spaniards arrived. The potato, which came from the New World to the Canary Islands, is called "papa" here and is served as a wrinkled peeled potato with its skin (papa arrugada). The green or red sauce - mojo verde or mojo rojo - goes well with the potatoes and grilled fish - ala plancha. For dessert, the Canarians like it sweet - very sweet. Bienmesabe, translated as "it tastes good to me", is a dessert made of lots of honey, almonds, egg yolks, and lemon.
