Between old fincas and medieval watchtowers
The area around Calvià and Paguera has a history that dates back thousands of years. Finds from the pre-Christian Talaiot culture suggest habitation since 2,000 BC. The Romans also left their mark in Paguera and Calvià. Popular sights in the area of Paguera include the numerous historical mansions, so-called fincas rusticas, such as in Santa Ponça and Son Roig. Along the coast, you will find some of the medieval watchtowers Atalayas. The name is derived from the Arabic word Atalayi. They make for excellent family excursion destinations near your holiday home or private holiday apartment with pool and sea view. You can find the Atalayas at Sant Elm, between Camp de Mar and Cala Fornells, in Costa de la Calma and Santa Ponsa. During pirate attacks, fires were lit on the towers. From each tower, two other towers along the coast can be seen. This way, news of impending raids spread quickly across the entire island.
By train to Sóller, by boat to Sa Dragonera
A highlight among the sights is an excursion with the "Red Lightning" from Palma to Sóller. It is a historic train that travels leisurely through the landscape at less than 30 kilometers per hour. The 27-kilometer-long route was completed in 1912. In the 60s and 60s, the train mainly transported oranges and lemons to the island's capital. It goes through 13 tunnels and over bridges to Sóller. The landscape is breathtaking. The view sweeps over orange and almond trees during the 40-minute ride. The route leads over the Viaduct Cinc Ponts with five eight-meter-high arches, through the village of Bunyola, and over the Sierra de Alfàbia. Another highlight is a trip to the island of Sa Dragonera (translated as the Dragon Island), which is only a few hundred meters off the coast. The small island has been under nature protection since 1995. It is a paradise for birdwatchers, botanists, and hikers. Discover lizards and rare birds such as Eleonora's falcons, coral gulls, and velvet-headed warblers. Boat tours to Sa Dragonera start right near your holiday apartment and holiday home with sea view in Peguera.

Taste Mallorca at its best: regional and seasonal
Compared to Spain's cuisine, Mallorca offers some culinary specialties that go beyond tapas. The Mallorcan cuisine is rustic but varied and is now being modernly interpreted by creative chefs. A classic dish is arròz brut – a rice dish with rabbit, pork and chicken, or, in the upscale version, with quail, pigeon, and game. Braised rabbit is served mainly in the restaurants in the mountains, as well as grilled lamb. A glance at the menu is usually enough: it's best to eat when regional and seasonal products are served. Of course, near your apartment, you will find numerous restaurants of all international cuisines from inexpensive pizzerias to upscale fusion cuisine. If you prefer to cook in your private holiday apartment, you can get the best ingredients for your creations in Peguera and Calvià. Fruit and vegetables from the fincas in the Mallorcan hinterland are of particularly high quality. On Mondays, a weekly market takes place in Carrer de Germans Montcada. Popular products from the region include olive oil, pickled olives, sheep and goat cheese, pickled samphire, and, of course, wine. Be sure to try the strong red wines from Binissalem and the delicious whites from Banyalbufar. If you don't want to go to a restaurant, you can cook in the holiday accommodation with kitchen by the water.
The best addresses for contemporary art
In the neighboring municipality of Peguera, very close to your holiday accommodation, you will find the Centro Cultural Andratx. It is one of the top sights in Mallorca for contemporary art. The Centro Cultural Andratx has presented works by artists such as Cidy Sherman, Yoko Ono, and Thomas Ruff. In Palma de Mallorca, you will also find the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca museum in the house and former residence of the painter. The building was built in 1956 according to the plans of the avant-garde architect Josep Lluís Sert i López. The adjoining Finca Son Boter was acquired by Miró as a sculpture workshop and studio. Another tip for art lovers is the Es Baluard Museum. The name is derived from the Catalan word for bulwark. The house also displays contemporary art in changing exhibitions.
