Apartment in Elba near Bagnaia Beach

Rio nell Elba

View German

The arrival and welcome at the Residence St. Anna del Volterraio was good and the staff very friendly. We were even able to check into our accommodation a bit earlier, which was really great after the long journey with three small children. Unfortunately, our accommodation is very austere and has aged (broken/damaged furniture, socket, shower rod, lamp). Cleanliness is okay, but there is dust everywhere, especially on the shelves, door frame, and fans. In the kitchen, we already encountered an ant colony when we moved into the apartment, and we have been dealing with them ever since. Unfortunately, "nice" is something else, especially for the price, we are disappointed with the charm/furnishing. The surroundings and the balcony are really nice, and the pool area is great. For the children's pool, we would wish for a sunshade, e.g., over the shallow part where the toddlers/babies splash around. Otherwise, really nice; the pools close at 7 PM. The children's program was lovely and Anna was very popular with our girls? . The on-site restaurant is recommended and you can also take delicious wood-fired pizza to go, but you should reserve for both in the morning. The beach in Bagnai is nice, but you should have water shoes because the stones can be uncomfortable. However, there are many nicer beaches not far away by car.

Which sights are there on Elba?

Tracing Napoleon - Attractions of Italy's third-largest island

Elba is Italy's third-largest island and boasts about 150 kilometers of coastline and bays. This is why the island off the coast of Tuscany is very popular among beach lovers. Nature enthusiasts will also enjoy the varied landscape on Elba. The Tuscan Archipelago National Park is Europe's largest nature reserve. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), it is considered one of the most important natural wonders in the world. In addition to the sea, the mountains are also inviting. The highest peak, Monte Capanne, reaches an impressive 1,019 meters and offers a fantastic all-round view of the Tuscan Archipelago, the Italian mainland, and as far as Corsica. The Tuscan Archipelago National Park is Italy's largest marine reserve and includes seven islands, including Elba. Monte Capanne, which reaches a height of 1,019 meters, is the island's highest peak. The mountain is made up of granodiorite. Numerous hiking trails lead up to the summit. You can also climb the mountain using a rustic cable car. Furthermore, Elba has many attractions to discover that you can explore from your vacation home with a sea view. The region around the capital Portoferraio in particular has numerous attractions. The historic center of Portoferrario takes you right into Elba's history with its narrow streets, steep stairs, massive city walls, impregnable fortress, and lively squares. Don't miss the chance to inspect the imposing Forte Falcone and Forte Stella fortifications, which are among Elba's top attractions. The view over the city and the lagoon alone is sensational. Or follow in the footsteps of Napoleon, who chose the Palazzo Villa del Mulini as his winter residence during his exile. The museum is open to visitors today. Villa San Martino was Napoleon's summer residence, and its neoclassical architecture can also be admired. If you want to take excursions from your vacation home close to the beach, you should definitely visit Rio nell'Elba. The town with its narrow streets is an attraction in itself. The two old churches in Rio nell'Elba and the Castello del Volterraio with its impressive view over the Gulf of Portoferraio are also worth a visit. The mining park and mineral museum in Rio Marina provide an insight into Elba's geology.

What do you need to experience on Elba?

Travel tips: Highlights not to miss on Elba

If you're spending your vacation in an affordable holiday apartment on Elba in the province of Livorno, you shouldn't miss the following events: The disused Miniera del Ginevro in Capoliveri is a unique setting for the Magnetic Festival, featuring operas, ballet, and concerts in July. Additionally, the island's musical centerpiece is the Elba Music Festival, focusing on classical music from late August to early September.

What can you experience on Elba with children?

Fun and games in and by the water - Accommodations for the whole family

Italians love their children, so the island of Elba, like the entire Tuscany region, is particularly family-friendly. You'll find many private holiday homes and apartments on the island that are child-friendly and welcome children. Many homes and apartments also have a pool, where you and your children can cool off. Wi-Fi is standard in many villas. The highlights of a holiday home on Elba for all large and small family members are the sea and the beach, inviting you to a relaxing beach holiday. In addition to pebble coves and picturesque rock landscapes, there are sandy beaches, which are perfect for beach holidays with children. One of the largest and most beautiful beaches on Elba is located in Procchio. Fine ochre-colored sand and polished granite rocks are the trademarks of the beautiful beach in Sant'Andrea. Between the island's capital, Portoferraio, and Procchio lies the Biodola Bay with its fine sandy beach and shallow water. From here, you can reach the Scaglieri beach with its restaurants, bars, beach club, and numerous water sports opportunities. Ideal for families with very young children is the shallow sandy beach in Marina di Campo. Adjacent to it, the small amusement park Arcobaleno is a great attraction for kids. On a rainy day, both young and old can marvel at the local underwater world at the aquarium in Marina di Campo. If you book your Elba holiday home with a garden in the resort, for example in Marciana, you can even walk to the beach. The beach in Lacona is also ideal for families with children, where little ones can build sandcastles and splash in the shallow water. The Duna Park offers bouncy castles, trampolines, and mini golf for fun and entertainment. Elba is also suitable for a holiday with your pet. Whether you're looking for a holiday home with a large garden or a cozy apartment in a quiet location, you'll find the perfect place for an Elba holiday with your dog. Dogs are generally allowed on Elba's beaches; however, some municipalities, such as the municipality of Capoliveri, have regulated access for dogs to the beach. The Mola beach is a designated dog beach. In general, when entering Italy with a pet, it is required to be vaccinated against rabies, chipped, and have a pet passport. Out of consideration for other holidaymakers, dogs must be kept on a leash, and you must carry a muzzle. Additionally, you should protect your pet against Mediterranean diseases like leishmaniasis and heartworm. Nothing stands in the way of relaxing holiday days on the picturesque coastal region with breathtaking landscapes!

Where can I eat out on Elba?

Feasting and resting - Enjoyment in your holiday apartment on Elba

Your private holiday home on Elba is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy the delicacies of the deep, such as fresh mussels, langoustines, prawns, and sea fish. Traditionally, stockfish has been enjoyed on the island of Elba and is still counted among the specialties today. Wild boar, guinea fowl, and pheasant are also appreciated. Connoisseurs also love the authentic Elba wine, preferably the white variety, which pairs perfectly with the fish dishes. Alternatively, you can indulge in a fine drop from Tuscany. You'll find restaurants for every taste and budget. In Marciana Marina and Marina di Campo, fish restaurants by the sea serve the best the Mediterranean has to offer. Authentic delights await you in Portoferraio's old town, with its quaint trattorias and restaurants. In Capoliveri and Porto Azzurro, the charming alleyways transform into an open-air restaurant in the evenings. Stroll through and shop at one of the numerous weekly markets, stocking up with typical Elban products and fine foods from neighboring Tuscany. In your holiday home, you can create your own menu from these ingredients. End the day in your booked apartment or on the terrace of your Mediterranean villa with a sea view, enjoying good food and drink.

What is a must-see on Elba?

Stay awhile - Art and culture on Elba

Italy and the Tuscany region are famous for art and culture. Numerous artists and writers have resided on the island of Elba and left their mark. One example is Elban artist Italo Bolano, who initiated the open-air Museum in San Martino with 24 monuments. As an art lover, you should also visit the Foresie Pinacoteca in Portoferrario during your affordable waterfront vacation. If you prefer a louder experience, live concerts in clubs and discos guarantee a great party atmosphere.

How do I come to Elba?

Quick and comfortable arrival to "Dolce Vita" - Getting to your holiday apartment or house on Elba

If you choose to travel to Elba, the "island of Tuscany," by car, the ferry port of Piombino in Tuscany is your destination. From Piombino, ferries serve the destinations of Portoferraio, Rio Marina, Porto Azzurro, and Cavo on Elba several times a day. The crossing takes just over an hour. There are also good flight connections, as the island is directly served from Bern, Friedrichshafen, Munich, Vienna, and Zurich during the main season. There are daily connections from the Italian mainland: flights depart from Pisa, Florence, and Milan towards the island. From the airport, you and your family can travel to your holiday villa by rental car.
