We absolutely loved our stay in the beautiful city of Paris. The Eiffel Tower was even more impressive in person, and the Louvre Museum exceeded our expectations. The food was delicious, and the people were so friendly. Can't wait to come back!

Our trip to the beautiful island of Santorini was absolutely memorable. The stunning views of the caldera, the charming white and blue buildings, and the delicious local cuisine made our stay unforgettable. We particularly enjoyed watching the sunset in Oia, it was a truly magical experience. The hospitality of the locals was heartwarming, and we can't wait to return to this paradise. Thank you for an amazing experience!

Which sights are there in Capoliveri?

Your apartment in Capoliveri is the perfect starting point for exploring the sights of Elba

Elba's picturesque towns and scenic landscapes are among the most popular destinations in Italy. Elba's landmark is the 1,019 m high Monte Capanne. Various hiking trails lead to the summit plateau with panoramic views. One of the most idyllic starts in the mountain village of Marciana. You can also enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view on a cable car ride. The valley station is located in Marciana Alta. On clear days, you can even see the cliffs of Corsica on the horizon. The island's capital, Portoferraio, is always worth a visit. Napoleon resided in Portoferraio in the Villa dei Mulini. Napoleon also built another villa, the Villa in San Martino. From your holiday home or villa with pool, stroll through the winding and romantic alleys of the village of Capoliveri, past the old city walls to the enchanting Piazzetta Matteotti with its charming restaurants and small shops. From the historical center, a panoramic road, running high above the Golfo Stella, connects the villages Morcone and Pareti, ending at Cala dell'Innamorata. This beach is known not only for its crystal-clear water but also for a legend: A young bride (l'Innamorata) named Maria threw herself into the sea at this beach and was swallowed by the waves. Every year on July 14th, a spectacular torchlight procession in historical costumes commemorates the legend.

What do you need to experience in Capoliveri?

Your holiday apartment in Capoliveri is surrounded by unspoiled nature

(Almost) nothing is more beautiful on Elba than nature! Due to the National Park of the Tuscan Archipelago, the waters and small bays in front of Capoliveri are protected, which is why there are many species-rich diving spots. The national park covers an area of over 600 km² between Livorno and Monte Argentario with its seven islands. The diversity of the landscapes is impressive: along the coast shaped by the sea, cliffs and caves alternate with protected small beaches, a colorful floral splendor covers the rocks, and defensive towers. The slopes of Monte Capanne on the island of Elba are covered by mixed forests with centuries-old yew trees. The sea surrounding the island is home to all the typical living beings of the Golfo Stella. Various species of dolphins live here, and occasionally even sperm whales, fin whales, and monk seals are sighted.

What can you experience in Capoliveri with children?

Capoliveri not only offers panorama views but also a beautiful beach on the Golfo Stella

The Lido of Capoliveri is famous – the beach is easily accessible from your accommodation in Capoliveri, whether a budget holiday home, villa, or apartment. The beach is extensive with fine golden sand. On the left side, a rock wall separates the beach from a smaller and less visited sandy beach, Calanchiole beach. For families with children, Elba offers numerous outdoor activities such as sailing, horseback riding, and kayaking. The Acquario dell‘Elba is also worth a visit. Dozens of tanks display an extraordinary variety of fish, crustaceans, and mollusks, and a small museum of Elba fauna is also included. In the evenings, many theatre performances for children are organized on the various village squares or in the theatres on the island of Elba.

Where can I eat out in Capoliveri?

Enjoy the delicious wines and specialties of Elba in your holiday home

Among the traditional dishes of the island of Elba is stockfish, prepared with onions, tomatoes, Parmesan, black olives, island herbs, and pine nuts. Gurguglione, a vegetable stew with peppers and eggplants, is also very popular. When it comes to sweets, the Elban people are very inventive: typical cakes are sportella and schiaccia ubriaca with raisins, pine nuts, and walnuts, as well as pan ficato (fig bread). Dishes based on chestnuts such as Castagnaccio and chestnuts cooked with wild fennel seeds are also typical. In the coastal towns of Marciana, Rio Marina, and Porto Azzurro, special fish dishes are available, such as squid with chard, stuffed sardines, and black cabbage with anchovies. The Capoliveri wine, grown on particularly mineral-rich soil, is highly recommended to pair with these dishes. Elban cuisine is currently rediscovering the aromatic wild herbs and plants. Cooked wild garlic in a soup with broad beans and eggs is very tasty, and the bitter Reichardie and dandelion are often used for salads. For a delicious breakfast in your accommodation, whether a holiday home or villa, try the Elban honey with extraordinary flavors such as chestnut or eucalyptus. If you don't want to prepare your meals yourself in your holiday home or affordable apartment, try the excellent restaurant La Taverna dei Poeti on Via Roma in Capoliveri, where a different fish is on the menu every day. On the beach of Innamorata, you can also enjoy excellent island cuisine at Conte Domingo.

What is a must-see in Capoliveri?

Your holiday apartment on the island of Elba is located in a historically significant region of Italy

From your accommodation, whether a holiday home or apartment, you can easily explore the many history- and culture-laden corners of Elba during your vacation. Elba has many archaeological sites, museums, churches, and fortresses to offer, such as the Fortress Volterraio, the oldest on the island of Elba, the Tower Linguella and the Forte Falcone. The also worth seeing fortress of Marciana houses a museum. Porto Azzurro, Rio Marina, Marciana Marina, and their respective surroundings are an invaluable cultural and artistic heritage, too. Close to your holiday apartment in Capoliveri, you can, among other things, visit the Romanesque-Pisan parish church of San Michele from the 12th century. The Chiesa di San Gaetano on Piazza Garibaldi in the town center was solemnly reopened in 2011 after restoration work. In front of Morcone, a branch path leads right to the 16th-century sanctuary of Madonna delle Grazie, scenically located amidst vineyards and pine forests. The baroque paintings and stucco work are impressive. Slightly north of Lacona is the small pilgrimage chapel of Madonna della Neve from the 16th century.

How do I come to Capoliveri?

How to get comfortably to your holiday home or apartment in Capoliveri on the island of Elba

Arriving by car to accommodation on Elba, whether holiday home, villa, or apartment, is very popular. Alternatively, you can take the car train comfortably up to Verona or Alessandria. From there, continue to Piombino in Tuscany, the ferry port to Elba. Piombino can also be reached by train. The classic connections lead via Zurich and Genoa or via Munich and Livorno. Usually, one has to change trains in Venturina for the train to Piombino. From here, passenger and car ferries depart several times a day to Elba to your holiday home or apartment. The ferries take only about 30 minutes to Portoferraio on Elba. Small planes can land at Elba's island airport Marina di Campo. During the season, there are direct flights to Marina di Campo to your holiday home or apartment. Alternative airports for arrival during your holiday to your apartment or holiday home are in Pisa, Florence, and Milan (Linate). Long-distance bus connections to Piombino are available from Florence and Milan.
