Description

The recently renovated house can accommodate up to 8 people.

Downstairs in the middle of the house is the main entrance which leads to the staircase. Left and right you enter a dining and living room and from there into a kitchen with gas stove, oven and refrigerator.

Both kitchens have French windows and on the front terrace there is a table for outdoor dining and a barbecue.

Through a small village you enter the beautiful garden with sun loungers and other seating options exclusively for guests.

Upstairs of the house are on each side of the stairs a suite with shower. On one side there is a bedroom with three beds and on the other side there is a separate small room with a single bed next to the bathroom. There is also space for an extra bed in the double room.

The small balcony is in front of the staircase.

a small gallery can be used for reading.

The house can be rented from two parts, but is ideal for a family or a couple of friends. In this case each has its own area, but for the rooms the area is shared, as there is only one staircase that can be used for both apartments.

Of course, the interior doors in the living room and bedrooms are lockable.

The Vagli swimming pool is about 1 km away and can be used free of charge. The lake is directly below the swimming pool and you can also swim there.

Location and surroundings of object

It is far from modern life, it is a very remote place and even many Tuscans have never been there.

Today it is not as far away as it was just a few years ago because the roads were very well developed, but the mentality is very similar to that of the islanders.

In very remote small villages like these, where everyone knows the last 10 generations, they obviously have advantages and disadvantages.

The biggest drawback for me personally is that I don't understand a word. He has kept his own dialect which doesn't have much to do with Italian. I always find myself like something mediocre when I don't understand despite repeated questions about what it is. Of course, I have the foreign bonus and many are always surprised at how well I speak and understand Italian (if I find someone who speaks to me). At the beginning I always said: Of course, I have been living and working here for over 20 years.

A few words about the village and the surrounding area:

The municipality which includes three villages (Vagli Sopra, Vagli Sotto and Roggio) is today known for its marble quarry or its reservoir: it is the largest reservoir in Tuscany. It is very impressive to see the great dam and the lake for the first time, which is up to 90m deep. Surrounded by forested mountains lies the ancient and wild village of Vagli Sotto on the peninsula. There are several hiking trails (from easy to extremely difficult) around the three small villages and also from Campocatini.

Campocatino is located at 1000m and from Vagli Sopra there is a path suitable for families with children. Today it is a popular destination both in summer and in winter, many of the old houses have been renovated, but still offers a characteristic and typical scenery.

Anyone with trekking experience can go from Vagli to Mount Sumbra or Tambura to name just two.

If you have walked enough you can swim in the lake, I personally don't dare to swim near the dam, where the lake is 90m deep and the submerged village is quite close. If you don't like swimming in the lake, you can go to the municipal swimming pool, admission is free. You just have to pay for the beach chairs.

Needless to say, you eat up here, right? Classic Tuscan cuisine at very low prices. The area is known for cheese, ham, salami and ricotta. In addition, there is an excellent potato and spelled bread: in the summer as a salad in the winter as a stew.

additional information:

The mountain range of the Apuan Alps is geologically integrated into the Apennine mountain range. The Apennines are a 1500 km long mountain range that runs throughout Italy, but perhaps some more. Maybe just so much: the two mountain ranges are very different.

Garfagnana is the hilly mountainous area north of Lucca.

A sleepy area away from (mass) tourism Peace and nature also offer, as in all of Tuscany, many small medieval villages and towns that can be explored. There is a lot to see and do.

I love this area very much and I mediate here, of many vacation rentals. Anyone who follows me on my Facebook or Istagram page (tuscanyexclusive) knows that I am in Garfagnana almost every weekend and gets some information and curiosities with photos and insights throughout the year.

If you want to spend a day at the beach, the Garfagnana is between 45 minutes and 1 hour and a half.
However, there are many alternative bathing options here.
Many rivers are perfect for swimming and you often find very romantic places where you are completely alone.
There are several lakes where you can swim and often fish.

The largest of the reservoirs of Lake Vagli (there are many recreational activities such as the possibility of a steel cable to whiz down the hill) and Lake Gramolazzo (Minucciano) is great because you are there at the beach, rent pedal boats, barbecue, which can use sports equipment near the lake and much more.

Vicaglia (Sillano) is the highest reservoir and there is a very easy path to walk.

Isola Santa (Careggine) is located along the road that goes from Castelnuovo to Camaiore (sea) and here you can walk in the middle of the lake or have a coffee in the old village.

In Villa (Pieve Fosciana) is another small reservoir for swimming and fishing

Further down in the valley are the lakes Trombacco (Fabbriche di Vergemoli) and Gioviano (Borgo a Mozzano)

The Garfagnana area also offers numerous castles!

In reality most of them are already in Lunigiana, in the province of Massa and Carrara and therefore something outside the Garfagnana which belongs to the province of Lucca.

Especially with children it is worth seeing the Fortress of Verrucole (San Romano). In recent years it has been turned into a small museum and you can see what life was like there.

In Castelnuovo it is worth seeing the Fortress of Mont'Alfonso and the Rocca Ariostea.

Also the Rocca di Castiglione (Castiglione di Garfagnana) and the Rocca Estense (Camporgiano)

The great Grotta del Vento offers tours for one, two and three hours.

Sports fans get married here.

There are almost infinite numerous paths on the two Apuan and Apennine mountain ranges. You can go alone or book guided tours. Cyclists can train in the mountains and mountain bikers have plenty of options.

Paragliding or climbing courses, quad-rafting or quad biking, guided horseback excursions and various climbing parks are just some of the activities.

There are of course several natural parks: Campocatino, Orecchiella, Orrido di Botri, etc.) museums and hermit churches (Eremo di Colomini, Eremo di San Viviano, Pieve di San Cassiano di Controne

Exceptional

Beautiful detached house with large and bright rooms. Well furnished, the house is practically divided into two, but it is preferable to rent the entire structure. The kitchen is well equipped, the 2 bedrooms, with private bathroom, are very large and very comfortable. The well-equipped garden is fantastic, with a spectacular view of Monte Roccandagia. The area is quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. Free parking is very convenient just 50 meters from the property. Highly recommended for a family who wants to enjoy a vacation in a delightful place.

recommend for: adventure and experience, holiday with children, cultural and sightseeing holiday
